Look Out! It's the Fuzz!
Who: Ari & Ridic
When: 6:00pm
Where: The Owl’s Nest
There were some days at the firehouse, Ridic realized, that he could hang around for hours after his shift ended just talking to his co-workers about whatever it was they talked about. He could hang around and play cards, or if he was on a roll with any paperwork they asked him to do, he could easily finish it without even realizing it was past clock-out. Then there were days, like today, where he couldn’t wait to leave. With his motorcycle helmet under his left arm and his punch card in his right hand Ridic was ready and waiting at 5:58pm to clock out. The guys laughed and he allowed himself a chuckle. It was silly but he had nothing else to do—so long as that damn bell didn’t ring for a fire. Today had been a pretty slow day. They had gone out for a small oven fire.
Can you believe people actually forgot they left pizza boxes in the oven? Of course they were trying to keep the pizza warm, but they it ended up there over night because they forgot, and then today they went to make dinner and…fire! Ridic would have slapped the husband upside the head for allowing such stupidity to roam in his house if the man wasn’t able to claw his hand right off.
At 6pm on the dot Ridic swiped his punch card, bid farewell to his peers, and left the station. Bike parked out back it revved up like a lion’s roar before the tires rolled out onto the street. Taking a left out of the station onto East 6th, he took another left onto N Harris, then finally a right onto East Main before pulling into the parking lot of Owl’s Nest. Removing his helmet and strapping it onto his bike seat once he dismounted, Ridic entered the restaurant/pub to look for his friend. He wasn’t sure if he’d be earlier or later than Ari, but it wasn’t a big deal. Looking around he took stock of the open booths, tables, and sparing bar stools.
