The angles were all wrong and now she's ripping wings off of butterflies Who: Maurynna and Ciara (NPC) Where: The Sídhe When: Noontime
The Seelie ambassador couldn't frolic about in the human realm forever. Rhys could do that if he wished, but she did have a job to perform. Not only was Maurynna suppose to observe the humans and their realm, but she also needed to return to her home realm to report her findings. If only there was an easier way to communicate. Maurynna didn't mind all that much, seeing she already missed her home. Perhaps she could visit her family while she was at it. She knew father was terribly nervous about her going off on her own. Sure, her older brothers had left before her, but they never heard from them again. She refused to let that happen. Maurynna wasn't going anywhere.
The territory where the Seelie court was held was always breath taking. Maurynna loved the tingle of magic that flowed through her as she flew through the area and quickly made her way to the center of the territory. She had already sent out a magical signal to let the court know she was back. It was only a matter of time before she reached the site and could converse with whoever they dispatched. Unless it was something urgent, then Maurynna couldn't talk directly to the king and queen. A lowly messenger would do. It wasn't the first time she had met Ciara, the green fae. She was currently peering into a water fountain nearby, using it as a viewing pool to check up on some random human. Landing gently by her side, Maurynna remained quiet and polite until her presence was noted.
"Ah! There you are, ambassador."
"My apologies if I've kept you waiting." Maurynna bowed gracefully before folding her wings and standing up straight.
"Not at all," Ciara reassured her with a smile. "How has the human realm been faring? Is it as exciting as the viewing pools show us?"
Maurynna wasn't exactly one to say in that matter. Her family always shunned that notion. Humans had abandoned them. They created this realm to get away from them. Why would they even be interested in their lives? Still, Maurynna didn't view them as pests. They had to be protected. All life forms had a purpose, whether it was a soaring hawk or a crawl ant. She would always respect life above everything else.
"It's... not what I expected it to be." She went on to explain the massive concrete jungles that the humans had made in place of the lush forests they had. She even pointed out her few meets with creatures from the realm, like the hairdresser and their bottles of goo or that werebird she had met in the woods. Everything was so novel to her and it showed in the way her eyes twinkled. "Honestly, I don't think it's the humans we have to worry about or even the Unseelie." Ciara raised an eyebrow to that one. "It appears the angels and demons are still around. Caught word the other day that the gates to Celestia had been closed for years now, almost like us. Though now they're open... just like ours."
Ciara hummed lightly to herself before nodding. "You know that we're above the deeds of angels and demons."
"I'm well aware of that," Maurynna replied with a firm voice, "but if we must insist on the well-being of these humans, than we must look past just the Unseelie as a threat. They even see themselves as a threat. And they don't even attempt to be civil about it. The amount of discrimination against those who have a magical gift is absurd." It even made Maurynna's wings ruffle a bit at the thought. If they couldn't handle their own kind having their strengths and weaknesses, then how would they ever stand the presence of the creator races? They surely would crumble.
"What do you suggest then, ambassador?"
Maurynna could only blink while gathering her thoughts. I don't think we should go out of our way to send in troops to stabilizing humans when they pose more of a threat to themselves that our twisted cousins, but we shouldn't ignore them altogether. Being the seasoned diplomat she was, Maurynna knew better than to throw around words simply because she thought of them. That was Rhys' job. "I leave that up to m'lady and m'lord, the King and Queen. I am merely a messenger."
Wise words. Ciara nodded with a small smile before tilting her head to the side. "Have you... met any others?"
"Others?"
"Fae. There has been an extraordinary number of young ones that have fled the realm to go investigate this... human realm. They shouldn't be out there."
Maurynna knew fully well that she was allowed there, because the king and queen wished of it. Anyone else who went simply because they wanted to, could possible face serious consequences once found. Nowhere near as bad as the Unseelie court, but Maurynna never liked being the bearer of bad news. Though her silence wasn't enough for Ciara and she had to say something. And at the same time, she knew she couldn't lie, either. "...only one."
"And who might that be?"
Forgive me, love. "Rhys Sinclair. The bard."
It was almost a running joke amongst the messengers when it came to Maurynna and her love/hate relationship with the infamous bard. Even Ciara had to stifle a laugh. "He followed you out?"
"Aye, he did."
She didn't like the way Ciara was shaking her head, that look in her eyes judging ever inch of her body. It made Maurynna feel as if iron was being shoved down her throat. "And do you plan on letting him stay around?" When Maurynna's eyes began to shift away, Ciara scoffed. "You can't let the man detract you from your work, ambassador. He's merely a nuisance and-"
"I'd mind your words, if I were you."
Very rarely did Maurynna speak out of turn, but when she did, it was for a reason. Rhys might have been a pest more often than he was of help, but he meant no harm. He was just in love with her and went out of his way to make her happy and smile and laugh. What was wrong with that? Though at the same time, she knew she couldn't be distracted from her work. As their eyes locked onto each others, Ciara finally backed away.
"If you are so keen on keeping him around, then he is your responsibility, ambassador. Any word of him and his foolish antics coming to court and it will be you that's liable. Am I making myself clear?"
"Quite." Her words were no longer firm and confident, slowly starting to crumble as she tried to keep her chin up.
"Good," Ciara nodded with a smile. "I believe we are all set for the day. You are dismissed, ambassador. I look forward to seeing you soon."
With that said, Ciara flew off, leaving Maurynna alone by the fountain. She wanted to cry that very moment, not appreciating the concept that Rhys was looked down upon in such away, though at the same time, she could understand where Ciara was coming from. They fae didn't belong in the human realm. They belonged here. Anyone that lingered there needed to be sent back to the Fair Realm immediately... but the idea of not having Rhys around pained her. Rubbing her eyes dry, she spread her wings and took flight to find that fairy ring and go back to the human realm.
