What if..

Summary: Michael ponders about his decision.
She was gone from his life. Completely gone this time. After his random meeting with Sarah at Flourish and Blott's he had gone back home to find everything Charlotte possessed to be gone. Not even the furniture that was hers had remained and as Michael had looked around himself it had finally started to sink it. It wasn't a threat, an unreasonable demand made from a bored wife who just needed something to do. Charlotte had offered him the opportunity to accomplish something together, a family, and he had flat out refused. He had never wanted to have children because you know what they say: You can't give what you never received.
Now a month later, he had been told his funding had been renewed but cut in half. He no longer had the financial possibility to hire staff to help him so instead he had made a difficult decision. He had kept one of his researcher to work full time on this and wouldn't be paid for his time on Lycanthropy Research. Considering he could make a fine living out of selling Wolfsbane, he decided it was the best course of action so that the Research could go on. He'd work for free.
Michael wiped his eyes and sipped his coffee, something Terry had hooked him on. It wasn't unusual for him to find himself trying something because his mate dared him to change his habits and ending up liking whatever he had tasted new. But this was beyond anything he had ever agreed to. He needed his morning coffee..
Tilting his head a little, he bit his lower lip as an image of Charlotte crossed his mind, impossibly gorgeous with that smile that had him melting every time. His eyes tingled and he blinked, clearing his throat before sipping his coffee again. She was gone. Gone from his life to never come back again.
What if..
What if he had agreed to have a child with her? She'd have stayed, right? The temptation to grovel and beg her to come back was ever present in his mind. In fact, he had owled her already, asking her for dinner but he had never received anything back. Charlotte had really left him this time.
It was the very first time Michael had ever had this feeling that he had messed up and made the wrong decision and he didn't like it one bit.
