Calm as always, the change in plans hardly phazed her as she reached out for the handle of the door and slipped into the back seat along side Basil and Mortimer. She was distressed to see that the cat had come along for the ride but the cooling breeze from the vents was enough to make up for the tag along fur ball. She gave the puss a cheritable scratch beneath his chin but her generosity toward the animal was worn up quickly and her hand retreated.
Instead her hand went to Basil's bicep, which she gave a gentle squeeze to and replied with a gratified,"Thank you, Basil." A kiss was then deposited to his cheek, even while she nudged the cat away from her feet with a light tap, strategically given with the pointiest part of her heel.
She did not return the compliment. At least not so directly. Basil did not look well at all. He looked exhausted and if she said something disgenuine he would know and he could hold a grudge for awhile.
Things had not been easy lately, not for him and definitely not for her. As part of the resistence she was fully aware that time was ticking and as the days wore on, the necessity to find out information became desperate but Basil did not mention anything lightly. But then, nothing about Basil was light lately. His worries weighed on him heavily and as the days pressed on, Ruby became more unsure if she would ever gain his trust enough to find out anything that would mean a breakthrough for her group.
At least she liked Basil...which made her sincerity genuine but she never forgot which side she was for...as much as he never forgot himself for that matter."You're the only one who could have gotten me to leave the cool comfort of my flat." She mentioned and then an idea.
"Maybe you'd like to come up?" She'd said it aloud before she considered the implications. There were things up there he could discover...things that could be disasterous to this whole mission. He'd never been to her place though and it could open up new possibilities.
Then again he could have his own plans and, " Of course there are no cats allowed." She gave Mortimer a sly look.
