I also have seen comments around the fandom that have no clear connection to a fic saying that Brian and Justin should have raised Gus or, when the spoilers and 513 first came out, that Gus should have stayed with Brian when Mel and Lindsay moved
My head is sometimes really far in the sand and sometimes I realize I'm really glad about it. Happily, I've never heard either of those ridiculous statments. I firmly believe that Brian hated having Gus & Lindsay move away. He loves them. I equally firmly believe that he does *not* want to raise Gus unless extreme circumstances dictated it. I think he would fight for custody if it came down to either of the girls' parents trying to take the kids. And if he had to raise Gus, he'd do his damnedest to, as BBC says, "make the best fucking cupcakes for the PTA they've ever seen." Still doens't mean it would be his first choice.
I think Xie's "tingling ovary" syndrome is totally correct. ;)
Having also seen an amount of "lesbians eeew" comments in fandom I think there are some people with a double-standard.
Now that you mention it, I have seen some of these comments mostly in relation to "and then I FF through the lesbian sex to get to the B/J sex."
I think it's *hard* (no pun intended) to simulate really hot sex. And most of the time, unless it's Brian & Justin, the sex isn't very hot. I think Ben is very attractive but his & Michael's sex scenes? FF! ;) The same with Ted's or Emmett's (never mind the TEmmett scenes, yikes!) and most of the M/L scenes. Though actually, Mel/Linds have two v.v. hot scenes that stand out in my memory: the time when they're on the couch and have to hide the vibrator because the GLC people come calling and the time when they have angry sex on the table. I personally think angry sex can be very erotic; other in fandom vehemently disagreed and that's fine. My point is that moderately graphic tv/film sex is often not all that erotic. I watched the HBO series "Tell Me You Love Me," and if I was only watching for the sex, I wouldn've turned it off after 30 minutes. SOOO not hot. And yes, I got really long-winded and way OT on Xie's post. Sorry, Xie!
But I hate to think that my broadminded fandom is not as broadminded as I assume. ;((
