Caroline had barely left Damon's side and when she did, she was only gone enough to feed and shower, then return to his side. The only reason she bothered with those things because their roommates were kind enough to take turns relieving her. If she could, she would be there the entire time. She was so afraid that if he woke up, it would be during one of the times someone else was sitting there. She wanted to be there when he woke up. She wanted to be the first to know he would be okay.
She wasn't sure when she had started talking to him, she wasn't even sure how much time had passed. The days seemed to meld together when she spent them in the same room day after day. She just felt so guilty and so frustrated that she had to get the words out, but she was also afraid that if he could hear, he would know how she was truly feeling. She'd said a lot of things she had never been able to bring herself to say before the coma. Things she had been scared to say.
She moved to the bed to sit down next to him and placed a soft kiss on his lips. Another thing she wasn't even sure why she had done it. She'd wanted to kiss him again since their first kiss, but it wasn't like he could kiss her back. Still, her lips pressed to his and tears ran down her cheeks. That was when she heard the gasp below her, then she felt his lips moving to kiss her back. She sat up quickly in shock, her eyes focusing on him.
