When Harry asked about Dumbledore, Hermione froze for a moment. This was the worst, she was sure. Sirius may have been Harry's godfather, but Dumbledore... Dumbledore had nurtured Harry, saved him... he had done so much for Harry through all the years. It broke Hermione's heart to think about the loss herself, but now Harry would have to deal with it. She looked away, down at her feet, and hugged her arms around herself. She blinked away tears yet again and then lifted her head to look Harry in the eye - because that was what he deserved when she was breaking this sort of news.
"Oh Harry," Hermione breathed out. "Dumbledore, he...," her face crumpled as she fought back a sob, and she lifted a hand to cover her mouth for a moment. "Harry, he died," she finally admitted after several beats of silence. The words were barely out before she launched herself at him, throwing her arms around him in a hug. "Last year," she added weakly, "It was terrible." She didn't know what else to say, didn't want to reveal that it had been Snape, that Harry had been there... not in the same breath she had broken the news that Dumbledore was dead in the first place.
