Elena had been a mess since Sunday night. She had never felt this humiliated before, not since her first year when she realized everyone was laughing at her. She wasn't entirely sure she wouldn't have preferred that situation to the one she'd landed herself in now. It hadn't been nearly so personal.

She had admitted her feelings for Jacob to his face, she'd kissed him and told him she cared for him, and he'd only done so because he'd had something slipped into his drink. How was she supposed to face him now? She didn't want to see the pathetically piteous look on his face, and she certainly didn't want to hear him utter the words "just friends". She might vomit.

She'd planned on shutting herself in her room for the rest of the year, but Phoenix's reply in her journal had her thinking otherwise. Maybe she'd just refuse to leave the dungeons ever again. Jacob couldn't come in there, after all.

Knocking gently on the door to the boys' dormitory, Elena peeked her head inside. "Phoenix?"
