Who: Haley MacMillan and Lucas Pritchard
What: He held up his end of the bargain, so she's giving him his reward. But something else happens as well.
Where: Ravenclaw Common Room
When: After classes
Rating: PG, most likely
Status: Complete

Haley was really and truly impressed. Lucas had been able to go a whole day without annoying her or flirting with her, whether it be in or out of classes. She honestly had thought he wouldn't have been able to do it. Obviously, she'd been wrong. Still, a day without his remarks and that trademark smirk of his was enjoyable. For one, she could actually hear herself think instead of thinking about the things he said to her. But the downside was this. The day did actually feel a bit less...eventful. This was not something that she'd ever admit out loud, but without Lucas's presence the day was a tiny bit more bland. Either way, her Lucas-free day was over and she had to give him his reward. The kiss on the cheek that she'd promised him at his birthday party if he could hold up his end of the deal. She knew he would have liked a real kiss better, but the day she kissed him on the lips was the day the world would end. Seriously.

So, she hung around the common room after classes that day just waiting for him. She'd written a note to him which one of her friends had passed along, so that Lucas would know that he could come get his "prize". The quicker it was over with, the quicker she could tell him to put his attention back on the girls she knew that he really liked. Like Bryn, for instance. It was one kiss on the cheek. Hardly meant anything at all, especially if you got them all the time like Lucas did. Some girls just couldn't help themselves.

Haley decided to read for a bit as she waited for Lucas to show up. Curled up comfortably, she had one of her favorite books open in front of her, those gray blue eyes scanning over the words that had been read time and time again. She was patient, so the waiting wasn't a bother. Besides, something told her that Lucas would be eager to get his reward anyway.

Haley didn't bother trying to get out of his grip because if she did, he'd probably just try and get ahold of her again. Why go through the extra effort? And yes, it did feel sort of nice to not be tempted to smack him. The same sort of feeling as when she'd hugged him at his birthday party. Still, just because she didn't move didn't mean that she missed him...maybe. Lucas might have thought that he was the greatest thing to hit the earth since magic, but his ego made him biased. Very, very biased. "Oh really? Even with all the other girls at Hogwarts that you could be flirting with?" She did this all the time. Tried to get him to turn his attention to other girls who actually wanted, or even craved, that attention. And some of those girls probably had gotten some of his attention today. He had to be doing something other than bothering her, right?

She felt it as he leaned down and brought his face down next to hers. "Yes, you have been a very good boy. I didn't actually think you could handle it, but you did." Haley smiled and chuckled a little bit. "So, if you come around here and sit next to me, you can have your prize, okay?" Her free hand was patting the seat next to her. It'd be easier for her to give him his kiss on the cheek that way.

And it was only a kiss on the cheek. As far as she was concerned, he wasn't ever going to get a real kiss from her. That was, unless he wanted the world to end.

Lucas nodded. "None of those girls were like you, pretty Haley." And he meant it. He got himself some pretty nice distractions, but he had that craving for Haley all day. His flirting didn't have the same effect on those girls than on Haley and he missed it; although he liked both effects. Each of them had it's perks.

He gave her hus famous dimple grin and instead of going around the couch, he just jumped forward and landed next to her. "My cheek is all yours, beautiful."

"You still don’t have to call me pretty every time you use my name," she said, though the chances that he would ever stop doing were slim to none. But anyway, Haley was sure that whichever girls he’d been focusing on for the duration of the day had been ecstatic to actually have his attention. And still he’d missed her. To her it just didn’t make sense. It probably never would. She got annoyed with his flirting while just about any other girl would flirt right back. Lucas had to have found her reactions to him every day amusing, because that smirk never once left his face. Of course, that only annoyed her more. That must have been something to miss, apparently? She doubted that he would have lied about missing her. He might have been a jerk sometimes, but this was sincere.

And there were the dimples again. She was such a sucker for the dimples in a smile or a puppy dog pout. Those were the weapons that Lucas could use to his advantage and he did...each and every single time the opportunity arose. Haley sat there with the book in her lap as he jumped over the back of the couch and landed right beside her. She didn't say anything about him calling her beautiful for once. "Alright. Here's your prize."

With that, she leaned up to kiss him on the cheek. But her lips didn't quite make it to his cheek just yet. Another moment or two and they would, but who knew just what could happen in one moment?

"But I want to." Lucas replied. "Consider it your nickname." He had the habit of giving girls nicknames so he wouldn't forget their names, which had happened to him a couple of times in the past and got him in some serious trouble. He wasn't sure how exactly he started calling her 'Petty Haley'; he had forgotten the first time he callled her that. But he was sure it had to do with the fact that she was pretty... Very obvious, yes., but it worked. Although he didn't need to remember her name anymore. He was sure he would never forget it.

He had actually planned to really just let her kiss him on the cheek. But a thought crossed his mind and it was too good to ignore it. When her lips were just an inch away from his face, he turned his head toward her and connected his lips with her in a kiss. A real kiss. His lips moved against hers gently, making sure she'd remember that kiss no matter how little it lasted.

Her nickname. Well she was right in thinking that telling him not to call her pretty would just make him do it more. "Fine, fine." There were only so many times you could tell someone to not do something until you just gave up. It obviously wasn't a point she was going to win anyway. When had he even started calling her 'Pretty Haley'? It had to have been awhile ago, which meant she'd been telling him not to call her pretty each time he used her name for equally as long. She wondered if he'd given her a nickname just because she didn't like it, or because he needed to remember her name. Or something else entirely.

Of course, Haley had been anticipating just kissing him on the cheek. Nothing more, nothing less. Then he'd have his prize and it would be done and over with. What she hadn't been expecting was what she felt next. His lips on her lips. In a real kiss. She couldn't think for a bit out of sheer surprise. But not thinking about it made it feel sort of...nice. As his lips moved against hers, she actually returned the kiss for a few moments. Wasn't this something she'd sworn that she'd never do in a million years?

And another question...how long until she'd notice what she was actually doing?

Lucas was very surprised when he felt her kissing back. That was definitely not what he had expected, at least not from her. Any other girl would've kissed him back, but Haley was not like any other girl so kissing back wasn't even an option. A slap, yes. Screaming, definitely. Hexing his bits off, probably. Thats' what he was expecting from her... But there she was, kissing him back. That had to mean something, seriously. Girls didn't kiss back unless they liked the boy, soooo... that meant Haley liked him!

He kept kissing her, smirking a little against the kiss as he tilted his head lightly. It really fely good kissing her. he could get used to doing that on a regular basis.

Haley wouldn't have expected it from herself! Ever. And yet she was kissing him back after all the times she'd said he'd never get a real kiss from her. This was what not thinking did to you. Without thinking rationally, there wasn't any good reason for her to stop. Only problem was that the initial surprise over what was going on was starting to go away. No surprise meant giving her a chance to think again. You do the math. Once what was going on actually hit her, Lucas could very well expect a slap or some screaming. Quite possibly both. And let's not forget a very enthusiastic denial to liking him in a romantic sort of way.

She felt it as he smirked into the kiss and that was what brought her back from La-La Land. All at once her eyes opened and she abruptly pulled back away from him. Her expression? One that said 'Oh bloody hell, what did I just do?' And then, not even a second later she was glaring at him, looking much more angry than annoyed at this point.

Ah, there it was. The logical and expected reaction he was waiting for; though it wasn't his favourite one. He was glad there wasn't anyone around in the common room, because he didn't want to have an audience if/when she slapped him.

Lucas tried to look as casual as possible and not smirk, looking at her and waiting for the slap or the scream - or both. He licked his lips, tasting a hint of strawberry from her lips. Merlin, that tasted good! "What?"

Haley would have died in embarrassment had there been anyone else around in the common room. Everyone she knew understood that she saw Lucas as a constant annoyance to her most of the time. But if any of her friends had seen her kissing him, they wouldn't stop teasing her about it and saying that she liked him! And she absolutely refused to entertain any thought of liking him at all! Lucas was too much of a jerk and a prick to like...or was he?

She kept glaring at him. Even more so after he licked his lips, probably tasting the hint of the strawberry flavored lips gloss she'd been wearing that day. Somehow that only made her more mad. Inevitably, she did slap him, actually hoping that it hurt. Who cared if it would make her feel bad about doing it later? He deserved it!

"What do you mean 'what'?" Haley said. "I told you that I'd give you a kiss on the cheek. How in your right mind did you think it was okay to do that?"

That slap had hurt more than Lucas had imagined, the pain being more psychological than physical though. Yes, he had expected a slap, but he didn't actually think she would do it. But she did. and he hoped she'd feel a bit bad about it later because bloody hell it stinged pretty bad!

"Because whether you want to admit it or not, you like me, Haley. You wouldn't have kissed me back if you didn't feel anything for me." He said. "Sure, I cheated. It's not that big deal, and it proved my point."

She hadn't slapped him that hard because even if she was mad, she was still too nice of a person to try and hurt him badly. It wasn't exactly something anyone would expect her to do. Nobody would have thought that she'd do something of that sort. But there was a first time for everything. And she would honestly feel bad and start apologizing for it later. But right now, there were more important things to worry about. Like why in the world he'd kissed her in the first place!

When he said that she liked him, Haley just sat there. As much as she hated to admit it, he did have a point. What other reason would there have been for her kissing him back when he'd kissed her? Maybe deep down she really did like him and just covered it up with being annoyed when he flirted with her and all of those things. Shaking her head, she said, "There's no point to prove. I don't like you. That was just...an accident. Nothing more than an accident."

Oh denial, how sweet it is.

Lucas arched an eyebrow and smirked at her response. An accident? Seriously? She really thought he was going to buy that? "Sure... Because people accidentally kiss each other every day." He leaned closer, though not invading her personal space - he didn't want to get slapped again. "We both now that's a really big lie, Haley." What Haley didn't know was that now that he knew for sure that she liked him -- he wasn't going to listen to her and believe it had been an accident -- he was going try harder and harder to get her. That kiss had made something inside him 'click' and he wasn't going to give up.

Seeing him smirk like that was getting her tempted to slap him again. He wasn't making things any better! It was his fault that any of this had happened anyway! "I don't care what you think. It was an accident." She doubted that he was going to buy into it, but what else could she say to deny that she liked him? Nothing. Haley crossed her arms over her chest as he leaned closer to her, still looking mad at him. At least he wasn't getting into her personal space. Then she really might have slapped him again. Harder than the first time. There was always time to apologize for it later.

"It's not a lie," she said, sounding more like she was trying to convince herself than him. Haley didn't like this. Ever since the day she'd met Lucas he'd done nothing but flirt with her and bother her all of the time. And she just got annoyed by it after giving up trying to ignore him. But thinking about it, it made sense. Being annoyed had just been a way to hide the fact that on some level, she really liked him. It made sense, and that was what made her hate it so much. Why in the name of Merlin had she picked today in this instance to show the fact that she liked him? Now he wasn't going to give up on her. That almost made it worse...

Lucas was, as usual, very amused by her being mad at him. Now he was 100% sre her annoyance was just a way to cover the true feelings she had for him. And watching her denying what was obvious was also amusing; he hoped she didn't kept it up for too long though, and gave in soon.

"Sure it's not, Haley... But the fact is that you kissed me. And I'm possitively sure you liked it." Yes, he had to brag about what a great kisser he was... But it's just he really was!

He was always amused when she was mad at him or annoyed with him. Why would that change now? And of course the way that she was acting only helped to prove his point more. Her annoyance did just cover up the way she really felt about him. Haley was more than sure that her denial and her excuses weren't helping whatsoever. Still, that didn't mean that she was going to stop denying it at all.

"It was an accident!" she insisted. "And don't be so smug. It just makes you seem like more of a jerk." Truth was, he was a good kisser. But she wasn't about to admit that out loud! No, now was the time for more denial.

Lucas didn't care if he seemed more of a jerk. He knew he was a jerk, and he liked it that way. But he had to admit right now wasn't the best moment to behave like a douchebag.

"Fine. Then this," he leaned forward, taking her face in his hands and kissing her for a couple of seconds, "isn't an accident. And I'm going to keep going that until you stop being so bloody stubborn and admit you like me as much as I like you. You can slap me all you want, I won't stop." There, he had said it. Now she could slap him, scream at him or do whatever she wanted.

Lucas was a jerk and it sometimes seemed like he didn't care whether or not he was acting like one. Now, though, definitely wasn't the best time for him to be acting like a total prick. It wasn't making her feel any better about all of this.

Haley wasn't expecting him to kiss her again. But there wasn't much she could do when he took her face in his hands and kissed her for a few seconds. Once he'd let go, she set her hands back in her lap and listened to what he said. It was kind of sweet, actually. And to think that he actually did like her too was nice. Only problem was, she wasn't ready to say that she liked him for whatever reason.

She got up then, holding her book to her chest. "I honestly don't know what to say to that." She needed to get away from him, that was for sure. Thinking about all this would have helped her out, but his presence made it too hard to do that.

Lucas watched her closely, studing her reactions as she got up. He ran a hand through his hair and gave her a nod. He wanted her to say that she liked him too, but he understood if she needed some time. "I guess you don't have to say anything now. But just don't forget about what I said?" His voice wasn't annoying or smug, it was serious and hopeful at the end.

Haley tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear as she watched him. He probably wanted her to say that she liked him back, but she wasn't quite ready for that yet. Some thinking was going to help, though. And maybe talking to someone about it. Like Emily, maybe. That's what girl friends were for, right? "I won't forget."

And with that Haley got ready to leave. She went upstairs to the dorms, ready to just think about everything. That way things would work out...or at least she hoped that they would.
