Who: Elena and Jacob
When: After quidditch
Where: Great hall
What: Walking
Rating: TBD
Status: Incomplete

Elena had no idea what she was doing. Make-up had been a fairly easy thing to learn from Bryn and Emily because there were charms that made it pretty impossible to mess up, but she had no idea how she was supposed to walk around in the stuff for an entire day without wiping at it, accidentally smudging it, or feeling like she was wearing some sort of mask. Sure, it looked nice, but the awkwardness Elena felt wearing it was enough to balance out whatever it may have done for her appearance.

"Showing off" her body had never really occurred to Elena until she had chosen her outfit for the ball. She had gotten attention from blokes for once because of her clothing choice. Now, she wasn't about to don her bumblebee outfit, but she did slip on a slightly more form-fitting sweater than usual.

Grimacing slightly at the nervousness that was so blatantly apparent on her features, Elena smoothed out her curls before hurrying off to meet Jacob. Of course, once she was out of the common room (and therefore safe, in her mind, from being intercepted by Sage or anyone of the sort) she slowed down considerably. She was sure Jacob would be taking his time, too. Wouldn't it be more... confident if she showed up after him? And when she got there... she was going to be confident- confident and funny and not worry about anything, because that's what blokes liked. How hard could it be, after all?

..Oh Merlin, she was doomed.

Jacob grinned, following her outside and closing the door behind him. "You're welcome, fair lady," he said grinning a bit too much at that.

He caught up to walk alongside her when Elena was looking back at him. "I did. Very violent though, apparently. Who knew Hufflepuffs hurt like that. And they took down a beater each and two Ravenclaw chasers? Impressive, really," Jacob said knowing Elena would understand. Being a fellow beater and all.

Elena nodded, remembering her rather aggressive game against Gryffindor with a bit of embarrassment. She had been so frustrated with the situation with Westley and Sage, among other things, that she had taken it out on the Gryffindor players. She supposed that's what she was supposed to do as a beater, but she still felt a bit bad for Fred.

"I know," she said, glancing briefly down at her fingernails, which had been painted for the first time in a long while. They looked odd to her. "But they still didn't win! I suppose we beaters can't do everything ourselves, can we?"

She wondered what Emily or Bryn would have been doing in her position. The blonde, bubbly girls made everything look so easy. They probably didn't have to think twice about winning boys over. Maybe it was something that came along with being blonde. If so, Elena didn't stand a chance- she was never attempting a color change.

Jacob laughed at that. "Of course they need us, but they need to do the scoring, not us," he said snickering. "Though I can understand it was difficult for the Puffs to score. My brother being Ravenclaw's keeper and all," he said gloating for his brother.

"But yeah, the violence didn't really work in their favour, since Ravenclaw got so many goals on them," Jacob said with a shrug as they were walking down the grounds. "So, where we going?"

Elena smiled at Jacob's gloating. It was good to see he was loyal to his family, just like she was to hers. If anyone tried to hurt Sage- not that she was entirely sure anyone could penetrate his iron-clad defenses after the upbringing they'd had- she would give them absolute hell. Elena's subdued nature would be out the window, that was for certain.

Now, a confident person would have an answer ready for Jacob, Elena realized. But Elena hadn't so much as given a second thought to where they would be walking to. Hesitating, she finally chirped out what she hoped sounded like a cheerful and spontaneous, "You'll see!" Yeah, once she decided where the heck they were going.

"So..." she began, attempting to come up with some form of conversation. She wanted to say something spontaneous... something interesting, but light-hearted and fun. What came out, however, was "So what's your favorite color?"

"Oh, sounds exciting," Jacob said in response to her 'you'll see'. He'd actually been expecting her not to know, which he would have been fine with, just wandering around, see what they could come up with.

But if she had somewhere in mind, he'd just follow her along. He laughed a bit at the random question, but he went for it. "Ummm... well I don't necessarily have a favorite. Red is kind of there because of Gryffindor, and gold too I suppose. I also like Blues and Whites, I can never have anything that's just one colour. I'll even deal with pink. What about you?"

Oh, great. Now she'd gotten his hopes up. She was going to have to come up with something good now. "Heh, yeah. I guess."

Elena's cheeks pinkened slightly with embarrassment at his laugh. Ugh, that had been an idiotic question, but it was too late to take it back now. At least he'd answered it. "I like blues, too," she answered, her spirits lifted slightly at the fact that they had at least something small in common with each other. "You like pink, though? Really?"

"Blue is a pretty awesome colour. Wasted on Ravenclaws if you ask me," Jacob said jokingly. But it was also the main colour for his Parent's team, so he was kind of biased.

"Well.. sort of. If there is a bit of pink on like a scarf or something I won't complain, and I will begrudgingly wear a pink shirt. But I am confident enough in my masculinity to stand it," he said explaining and laughing.

Elena didn't mind the Slytherin colors, personally. She looked decent in green, and she'd always been a fan of silver, but she wouldn't have minded a bit of blue and bronze in her wardrobe.

Growing up with Sage had provided Elena with a different version of masculinity than most. "What about pink socks?" she asked, grinning. "Or is that crossing the line?"

"Oh well... that's a different topic now isn't it," Jacob said chuckling. "You can hide socks. So they're not so bad. But if you're caught with completely pink socks... you're doomed," he said joking. "So not, I don't wear pink socks."

"That's alright. I don't wear pink socks either." Not that she wanted to be viewed as masculine or anything of the sort. She realized how it might construed after she said it, but for fear of making it worse, made the decision not to attempt to fix it, which was probably in her best interest.

"Not a pink kind of girl?" Jacob asked teasing. He didn't assume the masculine thing at all... just that he knew some girls rejected the whole pink thing.

"So I guess that means no pink socks for you in the future," he said teasing again. He probably wouldn't send her socks again... unless she wanted them. Or even if she wanted him to give her more gifts for birthdays and stuff.

"I think pink is overrated," she answered with a smile, glad that he hadn't.

"Probably not," she agreed with a small laugh. "Although the last pair you sent ended up working out rather nicely, didn't they?" At first she had been a bit horrified, but realizing it had been a joke, Elena had run with it. She liked that Jacob was funny and spontaneous. "I loved the chocolate roses you sent, by the way," she added. Even though Elena was rarely one to eat junk food, she had managed to eat those- spread out over a period of time and with lots of exercise after each, of course- and they had been tasty, too!

Jacob laughed at that, and gave her a playful nudge on her shoulder. "True enough," he said about the pink.

"I was a bit worried at first. They were just a joke, right?" Jacob said hoping she got that. He knew that he'd love it if his friends sent him socks, but he wasn't... quite sure what he and Elena were.

"Better than real flowers. They can die, but chocolate you can eat. And Chocolate doesn't go bad, so you can leave them out for awhile," Jacob said, not really knowing about Elena spreading it out.

"I was a bit worried at first, but I figured it out," she assured him. "If you had said you made them yourself or something of the sort I might have been a bit worried." She hesitated before asking weakly, "You didn't make them, right?" If so, she might have to act like an ostrich and bury her head in the sand.

"True. Real flowers are nice too, though." After all, what girl didn't appreciate a bouquet of flowers- especially ones that weren't roses, special ones that actually showed a boy understood her personality and cared enough to think of something different for her. "I suppose blokes don't like them quite as much, do you?"

Jacob gave a little frown at first but then couldn't hold it and laughed. "No, I didn't make them myself. If I did, you'd really get to worry. I suck at knitting," he said grinning.

He told himself he had to remember that about Elena liking real flowers... "Well, flowers aren't my favorite thing I'm more fascinated by magical plants," Jacob started to say, "But Herbology is my best subject actually. I can grow anything!"

Elena felt a small spasm of panic at his frown, but it disappeared with his laughter, and her sigh of relief was easily buried underneath her laughter as is mixed in with his. "I've never tried it." And she didn't particularly plan on it anytime soon.

"Really?" Elena had hardly managed to pass her Herbology OWL. She didn't have any desire to take the NEWT class, but now she almost wished she had so she might have had the chance to ask Jacob to tutor her. That was a silly train of thought, though. "I wish I'd had you as a partner back in OWLs. You might have been able to save some of my atrocities," she said with a slightly sheepish smile.
