Who: Elena Goyle and Jacob Wood
What: Going to the library
Where: Hallway on the way to the library
When: November 4th
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

Despite her most recent encounter with the library that had ended rather embarrassingly, Elena could only hold off from visiting for so long before people got tired of loaning their books. Besides, it would be nice to get rid of some of the books that she had already finished. She had never been a fan of clutter.

Besides, if the library door chose to take revenge on her again, she had a quidditch match tomorrow she could use to beat out the embarrassment it would bring with it. Being a beater was a brilliant form of stress relief. She had already planned on getting out her frustration with the Sage and Westley situation, and the embarrassment would just be one extra good thwack into a Gryffindor player.

As she rounded the corner, a familiar head of hair came into view. "Jacob!" The two had never been particularly close, but they talked often in class, and Elena would certainly appreciate a walking buddy. And hey, maybe he could protect her from the wicked ways of the library doors.

"I think Zara would disagree," she answered back, grinning. Of course, Elena knew Zara wasn't exactly the sort to brag about her talents, but the was beside the point.

Elena was surprised to hear he had gone alone. Jacob was an attractive bloke. She doubted anyone would have turned him down. She supposed it was a matter of him not wanting to have a date in the first place. She had gone by herself, too, but she would have been plenty excited to have gotten a date like Zara had. "The Doctor?" she echoed at his explanation, brows furrowing in confusion. "Doctor who?"

"Well I will argue about it with her if she wants," Jake said grinning not giving into that answer. He knew Zara wouldn't. It was just all in fun.

Jacob grinned and trying not to laugh. He couldn't help it, it was funny EVERY time! "Exactly!" he said when Elena said Doctor Who. "It's a character from a Muggle TV show from a few years ago. It's called 'Doctor Who', and the main character is called The Doctor," he said explaining it, and was smirking widely.

He certainly had her beat on that one. Elena gave a small pout of defeat, one that was generally associated with Sage as it was impossible to win anything with him.

Elena had heard of Muggle TV, though she had, with a family like hers, never seen it. "Oh," she answered, the confusion evident upon her features. "His last name is Who?" Muggles really were strange.

Jacob couldn't help but think that pout looked adorable on Elena's face, and it took him a bit off guard. He'd stumbled a bit while walking back, but he caught himself before falling. "I should probably look where I'm going," he said turning to walk alongside her.

"No, no. That's just the title of the show, because no one really knows who he is except that he's 'The Doctor' because sometimes his appearance changes completely. That's not even his real name, but as far as I know that's not revealed in the show," Jake said thinking.

Elena couldn't help but let out a soft giggle as he stumbled. It was good to know she wasn't the only one who could be a little klutzy at times. "Generally a good plan," she replied, smiling broadly at him.

His further explanation only served to confused Elena further. "What, so he's like a metamorphagus with memory loss?" she asked, brows shooting up. "Wait, Muggles know about metamporphagi? Really?"

"But you never know when someone will sneak up behind you," he said as a counter argument but he stayed walking forward anyway. At least she was smiling at him.

"Oh no, he's nothing like that. He's not even human actually, he's an alien. A Time Lord," Jacob said though he doubted Elena would get it, and he was probably confusing her more. "He doesn't have a control over it. When he dies, he can regenerate as a new person while retaining his old memories and personality."

Elena glanced over her shoulder, almost expecting to see someone there, but saw no one. "But this way no one will ever sneak up in front of you," she pointed out, still smiling.

Huh. Someone who died and was reborn with all of his memories. It was like being immortal, except... you lived a thousand different lives instead of just one. "That's kind of cool actually," she admitted. "You think something like that really exists somewhere?"

"Exactly!" Jacob said laughing. He wasn't sure anyone would want to sneak up on him anyway, but it made Elena smile so it didn't matter.

"It's definitely cool! He's amazing. And he's the last of his kind, so he's always lonely, so he always takes up a young girl companion to travel with him," Jacob said. He paused for a moment to think. "Well, it depends if you believe in Aliens and stuff. Looking from a Muggle perspective... it's better to have a vast imagination and think this stuff exists. And with us, we can accomplish so much with magic already, why can't there be something more amazing than us?"

Elena supposed it was the Gryffindor in Jacob that brought about such adventurous thoughts- that something bigger and better always on the horizon mind set- and she supposed it was the Slytherin in her that made her so skeptical, but the look on Jacob's face as he talked was enough to make her wish she was more open-minded.

She wanted to ask him more questions about Muggles and their strange television shows, but she refrained, not wanting to sound completely ignorant in front of him, though that was exactly what she was.

As they got closer to the library, she turned to him and asked, "Er- when we get to the library do you think you could help me find a book for Charms?" Elena had a bad record with the room in the sense that she swore it was out to get her. She wouldn't be surprised if the thing was mysteriously all checked out for her, but reappeared just in time for someone else.

Jacob was more than used to the fact that most people in school wouldn't get the things he watched on TV, unless they were muggleborns or halfbloods. So he didn't mind Elena not continuing that conversation.

"Yes sure! Happy to help," Jacob said about getting the Charms book for her. He was working on Transfiguration himself, but it wasn't like he was in any hurry to start homework anyway.

As the library doors came into view, Elena drew her bag closer to her side. There was absolutely no way she was getting caught on the door handles this ti-

Before she could make sense of it, Elena was already stumbling forward. Had she had the time to look down, she would have seen the culprit: a pile of books that had been abandoned by their owners. Elena didn't have time to think of the irony of the situation, preparing herself so much for the stupid doors that she forgot to watch where she was walking, nor much of anything else. All she had time to process in her plummet was that she was falling, that it was probably going to hurt a bit, and that Jacob Wood was watching. Great.

Jacob had held the door open for Elena to go inside, and wasn't really expecting anything catastrophic to happen. Or at least klutzy.

He saw her falling, and reaction just set into reach forward quickly to help her while she fell, grabbing onto her shoulder. But she was already well on her way to falling, so Jacob's efforts didn't really help, and he lost his own balance and fell to the floor. Oh well, at least he'd break Elena's fall... that was some help.

Now, when Elena had been expecting pain, she hadn't expected that pain to come in the form of total humiliation.

Feeling his hand upon her shoulder, Elena knew what was going to happen before it did, which, though it may have been a small comfort to some, made it that much worse for her as she slammed her eyes shut to brace herself. Jacob was going down with her. With a small 'oof', she crash-landed upon something considerably more comfortable than the floor, though it still hurt, and she was certain it hurt him much more.

One eye peeked open to see him beneath her, a blush spreading its way across her cheeks. Library: 2, Elena: 0.

"Are you okay?" she managed to get out.

"Ow..." Jacob said in a soft voice since he didn't really want to let on he was hurt. But he hit his head on the floor. The stone floor... So it hurt naturally, so he couldn't really be begrudged for that. And he did his Gryffindor Chivalrous duty and helped Elena not get... as hurt?

"Yeah I'm fine," Jake said reaching behind to rub the back of his head. "How about you? Did those books bite you?" he said chuckling trying to make light of the situation.

The Slytherin's blush deepened at the sound of a giggle nearby as a pair of younger Hufflepuffs passed by them, pointing and muttering to each other.

Looking back down at Jacob as he rubbed his head, Elena attempted a small, forced laugh. "I'm fine. Thanks to you." It was at that point that Elena came to the realization that she was in terribly close proximity with Jacob, a proximity her brother would have been raving at. Swallowing nervously, she let out another nervous laugh. "I should probably let you up, shouldn't I?"

"Glad to hear it, and you're welcome," Jacob said grinning. She really was blushing quite a lot right now, and he was thinking it was really cute.

"Probably. Who knows what Madam Yottle would do to us if she caught us," Jake said laughing. They were also causing a bit of scene, as shown by the giggling Hufflepuffs.

Careful not to put pressure on him as she did so, Elena managed to ease herself off of him, cheeks still pink as she smoothed out her skirt. A hand extended to help him up.

"I'm really sorry, Jacob. You didn't hit your head, did you?" The last thing she needed was a reputation for giving blokes brain damage.

Jacob sat up once Elena had gotten off of him and he rubbed his hand over the back of his head just to make sure her was fine. "Just a tap. It's alright," he said but he didn't nod just in case.

He reached up to take her hand, but Jacob got mostly used his own weight to push himself back to his feet. "No harm done!"

Elena did her best to brush off the tingle of her hand in his as some sort of reaction from her fall. She hadn't gotten that silly tingling feeling since fourth year, and that relationship had been rather short-lived.

Once he was up, she slipped her hand from his, the feeling subsiding. Definitely some sort of reaction from the fall. She must have hit a nerve. Yes, a nerve.

"You're sure you don't want ice or anything?" If he spent the next day walking around with a giant goose egg on his head, she was definitely locking herself in her room for the remainder of the school year.

"Course not, don't be silly," Jacob said laughing letting his hands fall back to his sides. He was probably exaggerating how much he hit his head anyway. No, no, he couldn't appear hurt after his botched rescue. Though Jacob did break Elena's fall, and that had to be worth something.

"So you wanted help finding a charms book, or something?" he asked, at least making sure he didn't have any damaged short term memory.

"Well, good then." She managed a small laugh in response to his.

"Oh! Yeah," She dug around in her book bag until she found the slip of parchment with the book's title on it and showed it to Jacob. "Apparently it's really helpful." Elena didn't need much help when it came to Charms, or really any sort of wandwork. It was potions that gave her the most trouble of her classes, but it didn't hurt to put in the extra effort. "Have you heard of it?"

Jacob took the parchment from Elena and read the title and nodded. "Yeah, I think I used it for a Charms assignment last month. I know where it is," he said handing the parchment back to her and lead the way to the aisle where he remembered the book being.

He paced down the aisle, reading he titles on the bookcase. "Yeah it's right here," he said reaching up to the higher shelf.

Elena followed behind him, wondering why it was they never seemed to talk outside of class. She liked Jacob; he was nice, but she'd never given much thought to spending more time with him. Any guy that could brush off being trampled with a smile was good in her book, especially good-looking ones.

She was half-expecting the bookshelf to fall upon him when he reached up, but it seemed luck was on their side for the moment. "Thanks!" She wondered what normal girls would do around cute blokes at this point. Would they nonchalantly reach up and 'accidentally' brush their hand against his? Giggle maybe? Would they lower their lashes as they thanked him? Whatever the case may have been, Elena Goyle was not- in her mind at least- any sort of normal girl. Fourth year was a long while ago, and with Sage growling at every male within a ten foot radius, Elena was rather... flirting-inept.

"So..." she trailed off, shifting her weight back onto her heels a bit awkwardly. She wanted to stay for a bit longer, strike up some form of conversation, maybe even help him with his Transfiguration homework, but what came out instead was, "I guess you probably need to get to work on that assignment, huh?"

Jacob had the book down and he rocked back on his heels a bit as he stepped back from the book case. "Here you go," he said handing the book to Elena with a smile.

He was glad he didn't have to make some awkward joke in order to continue the conversation, but Elena spoke first. "Yeah probably. I'll have to go look for the books I need," he said with a sigh. He really didn't want to do homework anymore. "Maybe I could... catch you at your table before I go?"

Elena's eyes lit up as he offered to stop by before leaving, a grin sneaking its way up to rest upon her lips. "I'd like that," she told him. She was surprised, especially after nearly giving him a concussion, that he would want to, but it didn't make her any less excited at the idea.

Jacob grinned wider when Elena said he could come by to see her. "Great! I definitely will then," he said shifting the strap of his bag on his shoulder. "I'm going to go find the books I need then, I'll see you later!" he said moving down the aisle towards the Transfiguration section, but he turned to look back as he went.
