WHO. Phoenix & Kendra
WHAT. A meeting.
WHERE. Outside Hufflepuff, then up to the 7th floor.
WHEN. After dinner.
RATING. TBA.
STATUS. Closed / In progress

Phoenix was in a good mood. Though he appeared to act the same, look the same, only those who knew him well could be able to note the difference. Just that morning, he left a little second year in his house quite startled when he'd helped him with the books she dropped. She ran away, positively frightened, but he hardly noticed. Today as a day he'd asked Kendra to come with him to experiment on the Room of Requirement. He hasn't been there himself though he was able to discover that it was on the seventh floor of Hogwarts castle. That shouldn't be too hard. They had all the time in the world anyway.

He scheduled a meeting with his Hufflepuff lady outside her Commons that day after dinner. He stood there leaning against the wall, dressed in his casual garb while he waited for her to appear.

Kendra couldn't help but grin wider as Phoenix took her hand, a gesture she had not anticipated, but was all too happy to accept as her fingers linked through his. She still couldn't believe this had all actually happened. To think it had all started with her dropping a book on his head, and now, here she was, holding hands with Phoenix Malfoy. It seemed impossible!

"It was alright. Studying is never a particularly exciting activity for me." She glanced over at him. "But the day is starting to improve."

Studying for a bookworm such as he was was quite invigorating, though he'd opted not to counter her. She seemed to be in such a good mood, better now as she had implied, and he was about to break that. It felt him with great satisfaction that he could never fully express.

"That's good to hear." Phoenix said, liking the thought of making things better for her, making her happy. Feelings that were quite reminiscent of the days when he was with Elena when they were dating. With Dominique when they were together.

Their steps landed them on the seventh floor, and it was then that he turned to her and asked: "What should we wish for?" he asked, pertaining to what they should ask for the room. He heard then needed to be in desperate need for it, and he had to wonder if she wanted it enough for the room to appear for them. "A place of comfort in solitude?" Though he might not appear eager, he wanted to be alone with her quite badly...

If Kendra could read Phoenix's mind, she probably would have been far more giddy than she was at the moment, but those darn mind-reading abilities of hers just hadn't surfaced yet.

"That sounds nice," she agreed with a smile. Kendra hadn't had time alone with Phoenix in a few weeks, and that was enough for her to want it badly. She liked to think desperate was pushing it (you know, independence and pride and all that), but remembering the feeling of his lips on hers brought a heat to her cheeks and she found herself wanting that room much more than she had even before.

"...That's... not usually there, is it?" she asked, tilting her head at an unfamiliar door. She hoped she hadn't wanted it so badly the room had decided a broom closet would suffice.

Phoenix's head tilted to the side, too, when she had directed his gaze to the intricately carved door. He could remember the door not being there before, though could his eyes be simply playing tricks on him. Could it mean that they wanted to be alone that much?

Tightening his hand on hers, Phin led Kendra to the door and upon reaching it, quickly pushed it open. The room appeared to be much too big for what little it had in it. It was the picture Phoenix had painted for them before: in the middle of the room seemed to be the most plush, comfortable-looking couch he'd ever seen. There were big pillows and warm, thick blankets.

"After you?" he asked Kendra then, taking her inside before he closed the door behind them, but once inside, he'd let her lead the way...

Kendra peered in through the door as Phoenix pushed it open, letting out the breath she didn't realize she'd been holding in. It was not a broom closet, thank Merlin, but a lovely plush couch that might have been a bed had it been a few inches larger.

"It's perfect," she said, edging inside as he gently tugged her in. She kept a hold on his hand as she walked into the large room, smiling at the fireplace and the warm, inviting furniture. She only released her hold on him to climb up on to the plush seat, letting herself sink into its comfort, before looking over and gesturing him to join her.

Warm and comfortable. Phoenix hadn't realized he wanted it until he stepped into the inviting room. He'd released her hand and watched her take a seat, the cushions sinking under her weight. The couch appeared more appealing after she'd taken place in it, which is why he did not even pause to hesitate.

He took the empty space beside her, letting his arms rest at the back of the seat behind her. "Nice." he praised, finding his position. After placing a pillow on his lap, he took her hand his and held it loosely. "Is this what you were hoping for?" he asked her.

Truth be told, Kendra had been hoping for a more intimate position than simply sitting next to him, but despite his willingness to take her hand in his in a very public setting, she was still hesitant about doing anything he would be uncomfortable with. It was hard to forget the rigidness she had felt the first time she had hugged him.

She did, however, edge closer to him until their hips touched. She could take getting close to him one step at a time. "Yes," she told him with a smile. "Though, really, anywhere would have been fine. I just... wanted to see you." Her smile turned slightly sheepish.

"You wanted to see me?" Phoenix echoed, trying to absorb those words. It was so satisfying to hear them, he found, though he did not know how to properly express his joy. He reached over to her to lightly brushed her fair hair back from her face, keeping his eyes on her. A light smile played on his lips. "Me, too." he admitted, even though in some other instance he would not have. For some reason Phoenix felt he could say anything in this private room, knowing it will be kept in secret here if he wanted. It was the magic of the room, he guessed. "I had wanted to see you before though I'd guessed we were both busy. Being a seventh year is not that easy, is it?"

Kendra quirked a brow at his question. "Of course I did." She was hesitant for a moment, but his words reassured her that she was not the only one who had missed the other over the break, and she let her smile return. "It's not. I'm nervous for NEWTs. I wish they didn't put so much on one set of exams. It determines the rest of our magical career. That's... scary." She scratched her neck nervously. "Though I suppose geniuses like you don't have much to worry about, do you?"

Phoenix had known her for quite some time, had spent quite a lot of time with her already- and yes, kissed her once- so it was safe to say that he was more loose around her now. Though of course the definition of the word was very different for Phoenix than it was for most. He felt it was alright now to smile a little, let his eyebrows draw together to express his doubt.

"Genius?" He echoed. "If I was such, I wouldn't be in school. I'd be out elsewhere boasting my intellect. But I'm not, am I?" His eyes grazed the spot on her neck she touched. It wasn't as if he was nervous- that much she was right about. But the reason why he didn't think of his future so much was because things like that weren't concerns for a Malfoy. No matter what he did, his future was pretty much taken care of. "so, are you planning on being a herbologist?" He smiled. "I'd be surprised if you're not..."

Kendra smiled at his humble answer. She had been with him in class. She knew how quickly his brain worked and how he loved to read and made excellent grades. In her mind, that constituted a genius. After all, Kendra made mediocre grades after putting some serious effort into things. Herbology was the only thing she really excelled at.

"I don't know. I think I'd like to do something in the field, but that's all rather dependent on the test scores." She bit down on her bottom lip gently at the thought of not being able to get the job she wanted after college, before her smile came back. "What are you going to do?"

Oh, he wished she didn't do that. Turn the attention back to him. Phoenix had never enjoyed the spotlight. He was never comfortable standing under its harsh light, probably because he had none of it when he was younger. Scorpius was the great first heir, and Athena was the little princes everyone catered to a gushed over. That left little to no attention left for the quiet middle child.

"You'd do fine." He assured her, before he looked down on his lap. "I'd probably engage in the family business. I've known that since I was... three." He didn't sound bitter or angry, only resigned. "Boring, isn't it? Not having that chance to fight for something. I suppose in one respect that's considered fortunate, though where I stand, it doesn't seem like that..."

Kendra's brows furrowed at his resigned tone. Sometimes- not very often, admmittedly- she forgot that he was a Malfoy and that he had so many things he was expected to do because of it. It was what her father was supposed to do- though he'd certainly broken the mold by marrying her Muggleborn mother. How different would he life have been if he'd married a pureblood princess instead?

She sat up a little straighter and lifted his chin up to look at her. "You don't have to be anything you don't want to, Phoenix." For a man she had thought so strong and collected he suddenly seemed fragile, and she wasn't entirely sure what to do with that. "You can still fight for what you want."

Her hands were soft and warm against her cheek, and he couldn't fight her off now. Phoenix looked at her, his expression serious, though his eyes were pools of liquid silver. He touched the back of her hand softly, and trailed his fingers down to her arm. "You don't have to concern yourself over that. I'll be fine." he said, for some reason felt the need to comfort her. "It's not like the future promised for me is a bad one."

"But it's not what you want," she murmured, doing her best to will away the melting that always followed meeting those grey eyes of his. She let one hand drop to his shoulder, the other lifted a finger to gently trace his strong jawline. "You deserve a choice. Everyone does."

Phoenix sighed. Sometimes it truly was a bad thing to be so open, so unguarded. One one side, he lets himself be vulnerable, and the other, it gave others reasons to worry. It didn't feel very good to him. Although what her hands were doing to him felt exceptional. "I don't have to make it now. Not soon." he reminded her gently. "So why do we need to think about it at all? We have this room to ourselves. I have you..." he turned his head only so and lightly brushed his lips against her fingers. "And you have me. Don't let anything else worry you for now..."

Kendra wanted to press it with him, honestly, to remind him that his family and his last name didn't control his life, but it was hard when he looked at her like that, and the soft brush of his lips against her fingertips didn't exactly help much either. Combine that with the suggestiveness she found laced in his words, and she knew it was a lost cause.

"...Okay," she answered, as her eyes stayed focused on her fingers where he had kissed them, cheeks flushing slightly at the breathlessness of her voice.

Phoenix could feel the shift in the air, though he did not mind it at all. They were closer now, and not just physically. He was enjoying their conversations as much as he did their comfortable silences, and it was rare that someone actually kept up with him. Sometimes he had to wonder why she does...

She seemed to like his kiss, and he smiled at that. Though he still didn't feel the need to do anything more for now. "Good." he said. "We should talk about something else. Something a bit more positive..."

Talk. Kendra blinked back into reality, and the heat remained on her cheeks. Talking. Right. Kendra was used to the like of Dante MacMillian. Sure, they had their talks but most of the time when they were alone together, there wasn't a whole lot of talking going on, and she had to remember how different Dante and Phoenix were. ...Phoenix might even have still been a virgin.

"Uh. Right. What did you want to... talk about?" she asked. "I imagine your life is more exciting than mine at the moment."

Oh, if only Phin could read her thoughts, he would be left quite taken aback. She was spot on about the 'virgin' part however, even though no one in existence knew that for sure except for those closest to him. Even in his past relationships, he did not think of going that far. It was just the way he was- he was too much of a gentleman to let his mind wander to those regions of his male mind.

He rested his cheek against her, his lips close to er temple that the plum curves of them brushed her skin when he spoke. "I doubt it." he told her. "We could not talk if you don't want to. We don't need to. I enjoy our silences. They're surprisingly comfortable..."
