Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Nicole Whitby & Hugo Weasley.
WHAT: Nicole is practicing and Hugo is moping.
WHERE: Quidditch Pitch.
WHEN: Day after the ball.
WHY: Because!
RATING: PG
STATUS: Closed/Complete.

Hugo hadn't gone to the ball the night before, and had pretty much gone to bed early. He'd had a good long sleep, and was up fresh and early, unlike some of his roommates and most of the older Ravenclaws who'd stayed up late the night before due to the ball.

He wasn't scheduled to do prefect duties in Hogsmeade either, and since it was still a Valentine mood in the village, for extended dates from the night before, Hugo decided not to go there either. But it was early yet, so he may change his mind since it would be awhile before he could go into Hogsmeade again.

But Hugo grabbed some early breakfast, and headed off to the one place no one would look for him The Quidditch Pitch. He didn't play, only watched, and it seemed to be a better location to go to study, read, or be by himself. Jess knew his spot by the lake now, and it was too easy to find him in the common room or the library. So the pitch it was. He was carrying his bag now, as he went to go find his regular seat in the bleachers and took out his book to read. Hugo didn't notice if there was anyone else around.

"Didn't you player seeker for the girl's and student's team this week?" he asked. He was just making sure, since those were the most recent games he watched. He couldn't remember if he'd seen her playing for Hufflepuff or not. But if it was her this week, she was really good. She'd caught the snitch both times.

"I'm not sick," he said, though he'd certainly felt horrible. She was watching him, and saying very clearly that he didn't look good. Which was kind of rude but he just looked away from her and ahead. "I don't really want to talk about it," he said even when she prodded. He didn't want to tell someone who was practically a stranger,

Nic grinned at that. "Yeah, I did." she said. Two wins for her this man, and Merlin, was it exhilarating for her. She was proud of these acheivements because she new she trained hard to win. "Did you get to watch the games?"

At first she didn't believe he wasn't sick. He looked sick. Or maybe that was only because he felt... depressed maybe? "Do you really think there's any point of keeping it in?" she asked. "Actually, if you did, it'll only bring more pain to you. You're probably getting that tight clenching in your chest, huh? That pain? It's not going to go away. So why don't you relieve yourself with talking about it to someone who has no clue in the matter? Someone who hardly knows you." She moved closer. "Someone who won't judge? I don't know about you, but it seems like a good plan to me..."

"Yeah I did. Lily would have killed me if I didn't go watch," Hugo said with a shrug. But he did enjoy watching Quidditch though. Not that he could play, but he watching was fun too. And cheering the teams on.

"I've talked to a few people already, and that still hadn't helped," Hugo said when she tried to persist. Maybe it would be good to talk to a complete stranger? So they could tell him how foolish he was. "My friend... who I actually like more than friend and even went on a couple of dates with, told me she is trying a relationship out with another guy, who has made her miserable for the last few months. She'd rather give things a chance with him, than even start anything with me," he explained. And there were millions of reasons going through his head of Hugo blaming himself, and saying why he wasn't good enough.

"Lily?" Oh, right, his cousin. The Weasley's were such a tight-knit family, she knew. There was hardly anyone she met that didn't belong or know of them. She laughed a little. "Well, why would she be mad if you didn't go? Do you just go there for her, and not for the game?"

Nic has always had a good ear for people who wanted someone to listen to them. She was quiet while he spoke, rocking a little bit back and forth as she still had her cheek againstthe quaffle on her lap. She wrapped her hands around the ball, her expression turning throughful. "Did she tell you what she feels about you?" she asked.

"We're really close. So she appreciates when I go see her games. I go like watching Quidditch too though, so it's not a chore or anything," he said explaining that he did like to watch it too.

Hugo sighed leaning forward, propping himself up with his hands and elbows on his knees. "She said she loved everything about me and cares a lot for me. But that obviously wasn't enough," he said shaking his head.

"I think that's ace. The Weasley's are quite scattered about the Quidditch scene. It's in your blood, mate." Nic told him, patting him on the back, a lot harder than she knew. She couldn't understand what it was like to be close to a cousin, though she did understand having a good relationship with family. She was close with her father and sister after all. "Ever though about playing?"

A sigh left her. The girl sounded like she led him on to her, and said those things to be nice. "And the guy." she continued, tracing his profile with her eyes. "Is he a prick?"

Hugo smirked and shook his head at that. "True. My dad played Quidditch, he was a keeper. But he wasn't really the greatest at it, and when he did get better, he had a confidence problem. And my mum... she's terrified at the sight of a broom. She hates flying," Hugo explained. And in the end, Hugo was more like his Mother. "Never thought of it. I leave that up to my cousins with the talent for it."

Hugo nodded at her question. He didn't want to sound immature and say bad things about Evan, just because Jess picked him... but this was information known publicly. "He is. He refused to be with her before, since he couldn't stay in a one girl relationship. He just comes off as a bad person, with a rotten temper, and can't take care of anyone since he can't take care of himself."

Yes, she's heard of the Weasley men and women who'd entered the Quidditch scene, each one she'd admired for their skills. It was interesting to reasearch them, since she interacted with a lot of their successors, one of the being her own captain. "Wouldn't hurt to try it though, would it?" Nic asked him. "For all we know you have it in you, too, mate. You sholdn't say you're not good at something when you haven't really tried doing it."

"Hmmm..." Nic's lips formed a little pout as she spared herself a moment for thought. "What changed his mind then?" she asked. It could be a lot of things, and really, what he could say could shed a better light on the subject. "Do you know why she wants to be with her now?"

"I'm not really that coordinated... and I'm not a very good flier, at all," Hugo said shaking his head, immediately thinking that trying to play Quidditch would be a bad idea. Even if he was only trying.

"I don't know. She said she wanted to fight for him. So she was going to give him a try," Hugo explained, still looking down at his feet.

Nic's eyes narrowed at his assessment of himself. "Nonsense." she said. "Bet you'd be fine. Try it some time with me, yeah? I'm sure there's a Quidditch skill there somewhere, just waiting to be pulled out."

She took the time to study his face as he looked down at his feet. He was... quite a good-looking chap, wasn't he? Pretty eyes, and that nose was beautiful. She caught herself then when he'd finished what he'd said, only catching a few words but got the general idea anyway. "Well. She's a bloody masochist, isn't she?" she asked, sighing, before she started to gether her thoughts. "I suppose you have to understand that people don't always know what they want, and more than that, they don't know what's best for them. It's possible that she may not know what a good thing she's just let go, and is going to something that's going to completely mess her up." She straightened then, and placed a comforting hand on his back. "But maybe you should think about your life, too mate. You should try to think if clinging to her is the best thing for you, too. Do you think she's worth all this?"

"I think you'd be hard pressed to find it. I'm a much better bystander, I can assure you," Hugo said. He could foresee bad things if Nicole was able to persuade him.

"I don't... really want to say. I mean, she's doing what makes her happy. I just wish... I could have been enough," Hugo said. He didn't want to say Evan was a bad decision, because what if Hugo was just horrible boyfriend material. He didn't have the experience Evan did.

"She still wants to be friend though. I don't want to hurt her by saying no, because she is my friend too. But I can't be around her right now, so I'm hurting her anyway," he said. Hugo knew he was hurt too, but making the other person hurt too didn't solve anything. "I don't know... I don't know what I want to do."

Nic gave him an encouraging smile, ones that showed off a bit of her dimples. "It's not an inherent trait, mate. It's one of those things that you can work on. I used to believe I was a Chaser. I learned to become a Seeker because I couldn't make it in the team if I didn't." she said, not boasting at all but only being honest. She had worked very hard to get where she was, and she was glad she did. "But if that's what you think, I can definitely respect that. I can definitely see the charm in watching games..."

She sat straighter then, and leaned back against the bleacher. "Don't think of yourself in that light. Not healthy at all, Weasley." Nic said, shaking her head disapprovingly. She didn't have much experience to speak of, but she had a better understanding of those things than anyone would expect. "There's nothing wrong with you. You have to know that. It's her choice if she wants to choose someone else, but don't let that decision run your life. Do what you think is best for you. Be her friend if it would truly make you happy. If not, then I say to hell with her- no offense." She made a peace sign with her hands. "I just think that if she keeps hurting you, you shouldn't be in a relationship with her- friend or otherwise. She can't hurt you if you won't let her, you know..."

"I know actually playing would be more exciting, but just watching a game seems like enough for me to handle," Hugo said with a shrug. The rush, the anticipation, and the excitement! Of hoping your team would win. Watching those bludgers fly. It was insane that people watched something like this actually...

"But I promised her... that'd I'd always be her friend. And I want to be there for her. I just don't know how to reconcile those feelings inside me yet," Hugo said. He knew that someone was going to be disappointed in all of this, and he was more likely to think that it was just going to be him.

Nicole sighed. They could go one like this for hours, just discussing how much he wanted to be with her but not as a friend, and Nicole didn't want that much time wasted. Not that she didn't care about helping him- she did- but it was just apparent that he still had a lot of things to think about. Think while she wasn't there.

"Then it seems you're not ready to have your answers yet." She stood then, beater bat in one hand and the Quaffle tucked under the other. "You have to know what to hold on or let go, Weasley. No one can help make that decision, only you can. When you do, and you need a stranger to talk to again, or maybe hold a pillow while you punch it senseless, find me, yeah?" She started walking backwards, a smile on her face before she waved and ran down the stairs and towards her things.

Now, that was an interesting way to start the morning.
