Some people were apparently destined for painful lives. She and Tony had already gone through the horrid awkwardness of having a shared brother, the pain of split families, only to have two pieces of theirs come back together, and now something else had gone wrong. Zara, Tony's older sister, and certainly the one he was closer to, had been in some kind of 'accident'. She knew it had affected Jacob to some degree, too, but he hadn't said enough about it for her to be worried. Tony, on the other hand...

His journal had her worried, and despite knowing that they weren't a couple, weren't dating, and logically couldn't date- what with their parents moving in together- she was hurrying over to the Slytherin common room. Maybe he wasn't her boyfriend, but she couldn't help but care about him, be concerned about him. She didn't like the way it sounded as if he was blaming himself for what had happened to his sister when it was obvious there was nothing he could have done.

Perhaps she was more concerned because she didn't like to think that it had been her fault, too. After all, Tony was with her on Halloween. Would he have been with his sister that night if it wasn't for her? What would have happened if he was? Would he be lying in the bed next to her? Piper quickly shook off that thought, however, as the entrance to Slytherin came into view. She had half a mind to try and sneak her way in, but thought better of it, lenaing impatiently against the wall as her fingers drummed a nervous beat against the stone.

Tony had waited by the fireplace till he thought it was a good time to check to see if Piper was there. He should have said no, that he typically would have wanted to be by himself with his misery and worry... but seeing Piper would make feel better. Even that seemed illogical, but no one was around to stop him. No Avalon to disapprove, or Zara to tell him to do what his heart told him.

He made his way out into the corridor and found Piper there already waiting for him. She must have gotten down there fast... "Hi," he said not looking at her directly. "We should... go somewhere. And empty classroom or something," he suggested, not really wanting to talk about in the hall.

"Hey," she greeted him in reply, noticing his lack of eye contact, but not commenting on it. It didn't take a genius to figure out that he was upset, and she had no intention of making things worse for him. "Yeah, okay." She wasn't keen on having that conversation out in the corridor either. After their parents had moved back in, she and Tony were considered faux pas, and she didn't want to have to deal with the looks of passersby if they were having such an intimate conversation, even if it might have been exactly what it looked like.

He nodded when she agreed, not really wanting to say anything more. But before heading the direction of a classroom he knew that was empty, Tony reached to take a hold of Piper's hand. Tony knew that would make him feel a bit better. Having her with him already was helping.

Tony lead Piper down the corridor towards the class, and he looked around carefully to make sure no one saw them before opening the door for Piper to go in.

Piper glanced down at their joined hands, giving his hand a small squeeze as they snuck into the classroom. She wasn't entirely sure what she was supposed to say to him at this point. She knew he blamed himself, which she had already told him- and would tell him again if necessary- was ridiculous, and she knew that he was worried about his sister. From the way he'd described her... he should be.

As the door was closed behind them, she turned to face him. "Are you okay, Tony?" she asked, knowing it was a stupid question but not knowing what else to ask.

Tony looked at Piper when she started talking to him again and he really didn't know how to answer her at first. He ran a hand through hair nervously as he went over and found a chair to sit in. "I... don't know. Really. I suppose if I can't answer that question than I guess that means I'm not. I should know if I'm okay or not," Tony said a little frustrated. "Just... things were going alright for a change. And right as things could go in this family after what my father... our parents did. And then something bad like this has to happen."

"I know." The thought of what her mother had done had her blood boiling all over again, but Piper pushed that thought aside. There were more important things to worry about. Tony was more important. "It seems like... nothing ever goes right anymore, doesn't it?" she said, dragging a chair to sit down in front of him.

"You know, you're not... you don't have to be okay right now. It's okay if you aren't."

"Yeah, that sounds about right," Tony said with a sigh of annoyance. He never expected his life to be perfect, but he at least expected it to be a bit easier. So much shite had happened, it would at least be nice for things to go a bit smoother. But no, it just got harder.

He laughed sarcastically at that and looked up to Piper. "It's okay, not to be okay," he repeated and let out another sigh. "I suppose so. I just... wish she'd be okay. That I knew that Zara would be okay. That she'd be coming back. But I know that won't be happening any time soon."

It was hard to see that Tony had slid back into the bitterness she had managed to coax him out of before everything had gone so terribly wrong. She remembered goading him into going to Hogsmeade with her, making it seem like a challenge so she could get to know him better. He had lightened up, maybe not completely, but he was happier. That hadn't lasted long.

She reached for Tony's hand again. "Tony, she will be okay. I know it won't be right away, but she will. Zara's strong."

Tony squeezed his hand in hand in Piper's when she reached for it again. "I know she is," he said nodding. She was the strongest out of all of them. But they she went through that break up with Capper... she hadn't been herself lately.

He let out a sigh, and lifted Piper's hand to his cheek so he could feel the warmer skin of her hand. "I just don't... anything else bad to happen. Like, we have no idea what happened to Zara really. It could happen to anyone else. And I have to look out for my brother even more now."

Piper was caught offguard by the intimate gesture, but she didn't pull her hand away. She shifted her hand to cup his jaw, her thumb gently brushing across his cheek bone. "It's going to be alright, Tony," she assured him. She had to believe that the professors were doing everything they could.

It felt nice the way Piper was brushing his cheek bone with her thumb. He was glad that she didn't pull away either. It was so strange... how much he liked Piper. How he'd warmed up to her, just to stop their relationship in it's tracks. But he didn't want to forget about it, and neither did she apparently. "I'd like to believe it when you say it."

Piper met his gaze with a small smile, before her hazel gaze drifted across his features, across the furrow of his brow, down the slope of his jaw, up to... his lips. Piper blinked back into reality. She had broken up with him for a reason. Their parents... complicated things, and she knew it wasn't healthy, especially if they were living together. But still, sitting there, so close to him, it was hard to ignore that familiar flutter in her stomach. "I mean it when I say it," she said.

His feelings never changed. And Tony still thought Piper was the prettiest girl in their year, if not the whole school. Even a small smile was enough to break him out of his gloom for a few moments. If their parents hadn't been so selfish... things would be different. "I know you do," he said nodding. "I've missed you a lot," Tony said. It was hard not to think about them, when she was right there in front of him so close. It seemed almost easier to worry about them than it was to worry about Zara right now... At least Piper was save.

"I've missed you, too." They had been good together, she and Tony. No one had expected it, but it had worked, and it was hard to just let it go, to let him go. She wasn't sure she'd be able to do it entirely, not with the way things were going now.

Swallowing the lump in her throat, she let her hand fall from his face, resting lightly upon his knee. "It isn't fair," she murmured.

Tony reached for her hand that had been on his face again, holding it tightly in his. He was upsetting her now, and he didn't mean to do that. "I know it's not," he said nodding to her. Their parents made it not fair. If only... they didn't find out the truth about Jacob. He didn't need another brother, especially not one he shared with Piper. "But I don't feel guilty about seeing you. I always want to see you."

Piper hadn't been expecting such sincere words from him, and she laced her fingers through his as she offered him a weak smile. "Tony, what if they get married?" The thought made her stomach tighten. She didn't think she could handle that, her mother remarrying, especially not to Flint. "They already moved in together." Her voice was bitter as she talked about their parents, grip tightening on his hand slightly.

The thought was very unpleasant for Tony too, and he noticed her grip tightening on his. But he had already thought about his father remarrying... And he didn't like it at all. "I... don't know," he said with a sigh. "All I can tell you right now is, my Mother is making their divorce go on and be as painful as possible." But that still wouldn't stop them for long. And what if... they had another child. "I wish that it wouldn't matter. Once I'm done school, I don't even want to go back home. I'm not sure if I even want to be the heir of the Flint family anymore."

Piper couldn't say she honestly understood how he felt. She didn't have to worry about being an heiress, the pressures of being the eldest and what that meant for the family name his father seemed to have no regard for any longer. She didn't know what it felt like to have that kind of pressure, and she was glad for that. "I'm not going back," she muttered. Who was she going to live with? Her father and his new girlfriend? Tony's father and Katie? No thanks.

"It'd be so much easier if we could just pretend it never happened," she said with a soft sigh, meeting his gaze again. "Just... go back to the way things used to be. You know," she laughed softly. "Dragging you to Hogsmeade and that kind of thing."

"What are you going to do?" Tony asked. He knew he wanted to go traveling, and work as a curse breaker. Keep himself far from home, and being his own person. Escaping everything that defined him as a Flint and connected him to all that family drama.

"I wish we could too," Tony said. He had to admit, last year when Piper first showed interest in him... Tony had been nervous about it. He had no idea what she'd be interested in him, and was worried it had been some kind of prank or something. And they'd had their own issues before anything came out about Jacob. "If no one else knew to make comments. To just leave us alone."

"I don't know," she answered honestly. "Go far away. Find a job that pays decently. Just... start over, I guess." She wanted to go somewhere far away from all the dramatics that had been attached to her name, somewhere different and exciting.

"...People don't know we're here," she pointed ouyt. "I mean, if we didn't say anything and just..." She trailed off, unsure of where she was going with her thoughts. Sneaking around with Tony, lying to people? She wasn't ashamed of him, but things were so complicated. People thought it was wrong, they looked at them like it was wrong. But if it was so wrong, then why didn't it feel wrong? Why were they there, in that room at all?

Tony smiled at her answer. "Kind of like what I want to do," he said. Though he at least had a clear idea in mind about what kind of work he would be doing. He didn't know if Piper had thought that far ahead. If everything went well Tony would even get to go away for the summer to do internships and get ready for the end of school.

Maybe in the beginning when Tony resisted it felt wrong to be with Piper. But that was stupid family prejudices, which apparently their parents had ignored anyway. But if no one knew, no one could bother them. Tony reached his hand up to brush some of her hair out of her face. She was so close now... so he leaned in to kiss her softly.

Piper felt her cheeks heat up as he looked at her, watched him lean in until she let her eyes flutter closed, her lips meeting his for the first time is so long. It felt perfect, like their lips fit with each other's just right, and all thoughts of how wrong it was, what people would think or say, were shoved to the back of her mind as she focused on that feeling.

Tony felt relief when she didn't pull away, but didn't respond badly to the kiss either. He closed his eyes too as he continued to kiss her. Tony let his hand fall from her cheek before he pulled back to see her reaction or if she had anything to say.

Piper opened her eyes to look at him then, eyes flitting nervously across his features. What was she supposed to say? What did he want her to say? Her head was slightly foggy from the kiss, a mess of physical and emotional feelings as she stared back at him. After a moment's pause and a whirlwind of thoughts, she finally spoke.

"This is a bad idea," she whispered, but it didn't stop her from moving forward to kiss him again, not as softly as before.

Before Tony could think of agreeing or disagreeing, Piper was already leaning back in to kiss him again. And not the simple kiss from before. Tony leaned in to kiss her deeper and his hands moved up to lace into her hair. It had been so long since they were this close, he couldn't help it. Piper was the only girl he'd kissed before, and he'd missed kissing her.

Piper's arms slid up around his neck as she shifted in one smooth motion from her chair into his lap to get closer to him. She had missed this, being close to him, touching him, kissing him, and it was easy to forget, just for a little while, that it might not be okay as her lips moved against his.

The move had taken Tony by surprise, but he didn't try to stop her, as Piper climbed into his lap. Tony wrapped an arm around her waist and left a hand in her hair. He kissed back harder as she continued to snog him. Tony didn't really expect their meeting to lead to this, but he wasn't complaining. He was only thinking about Piper now.

Piper hadn't exactly planned this either. She had come to talk to him about Zara, to make sure he was okay after he sounded like such a mess in his journal. She supposed snogging always made everyone feel better...

Held securely against him, she let a hand shift into his hair, kissing him back fervently as if she were afraid she wouldn't get another chance, and maybe there was a small part of her that was afraid of that.

Tony could sense the urgency Piper had and he wasn't quite surprised by it. He felt her hands tighten in his hair, and felt her move closer. Tony wouldn't push her away, in case they never got a chance to be close again. He opened his mouth to hers, and his tongue moved over her bottom lip.

Piper couldn't help but let out a soft groan as she parted her lips to meet his tongue with hers. It felt good being this close to someone. No, not just to someone, to Tony, and she wasn't ready for it to be over. She didn't want to think of the moment when they separated, when they had to think of the effects of their actions.

Tony was only thinking of Piper, and how good it felt to kiss her, how she tasted. He didn't want to think about all the reasons why he shouldn't be snogging her, and why he shouldn't even see her. He smoothed his hand over her lower back as he kissed her deeper, ignoring that soon enough he'd have to pull away to breath.

Lungs were dreadful things. They required oxygen, which meant she couldn't kiss him for forever. She couldn't relish in the moment for nearly as long as she wanted to, and she grudgingly let herself pull back, sucking in a much-need breath of air. She let her forehead rest against his as she took sighed softly, unwilling to say anything to have to come back to reality.

Tony took in a breath when Piper's lips finally left his. He opened his eyes looking at her pretty face as he tried to catch his breath, and felt her forehead leaning against his. He reached up to tuck her hair back again. They didn't say anything but he sighed trying to avoid thinking about the reality of their situation.

She gazed back at him, his blue eyes piercing as she let her chest rise and fall against his. She swallowed thickly, her lips tingling from the intensity of their kiss.

And it had been intense. They still wanted each other, and now they both knew it. Her lips pressed against his briefly, one last peck before having to wake up and be rational. If she had been trying to help Tony, it certainly seemed like she had just made things an awful lot more complicated.

"I don't... know what to do, Tony," she breathed.

Tony could see her hazel eyes searching his for an answer. An answer he wasn't sure he had. Tony only knew what he felt, and Zara would have told him before to go with that. But he was also rational and he knew what they were doing wouldn't come to any good. It was just frustrating...

Especially since it was so intense between them. That they had such a connection. Even a soft peck was enough to put him in a brief daze. "I don't know either."

Piper was beginning to think that there was no answer, and it was so frustrating, not to have some instantaneous resolution that could make everything okay. Piper was not a patient sort of girl.

"What if... we just... pretend it doesn't matter for a little while?" she asked softly.

"Pretend?" Tony asked trying to make sense of it. Did she mean pretend that they didn't share a brother. Or that her mother wasn't living with his father. ... Why not? He always wanted to forget that his life was so screwed up. "For a little while. Till we can think of a better solution," he said smiling a bit. He knew there wouldn't be an easy solution but... they had to resolve this some how. But he didn't want to wait for that, only for it to come out badly.

"Okay," she said with a small smile. She pressed her lips gently to the skin beneath his ear. "Even if it's just today. I've... missed you." She reached to gently brush his hair aside from his eyes. "A lot."

Tony felt a slight shiver when she kissed the skin under his ear. He smiled at her when she said she missed him. Tony wrapped both of his arms around her then, pulling her closer and he buried his face in her neck. Breathing in her scent, the smell of her shampoo in her hair. "I missed you too."
