"It was completely insane, mate. I couldn't believe she let me go so far and all on a whim, too. Bloody bird, I was so sure she'd just be a tease. Ha!" Evan was in the middle of explaining to Ben his latest escapade with Athena Malfoy.

Isabella could hear him down the hall but did her best to keep the blush out of her cheeks- a major failure- as she approached the two boys. Her hands were tucked into her pockets so she could hide the nervous tension in them as she approached. She had asked around as to where she could find him, and despite a few raised eyebrows, she had ended up there, standing awkwardly in the middle of the corridor.

Hesitantly, she came to stand a few feet away from them. "Um. Ben?"

Evan's gaze shifted to the shy brunette, a smile cracking over his features as he gave Ben a nudge. "Ben," he cooed, mocking Isabella's soft voice. "This young lady wants to talk to you."

Ben's face was red by this point, and he was really going to punch Evan. Still looking at the ground, he resisted the urge to shove him into the wall and tell him to sod off. He was making this all the more difficult. Why had she insisted on coming up to him while he was with him?

"Shut up, Evan," he hissed again, shooting a death glare in his direction. "Just shut up." He looked at Isabella then, feeling a giant pang of guilt, but definitely made the wrong move. "She's not talking about anything. Now let's go."

Deep down, he knew he was doing the wrong thing. He could see that right on her face. He didn't want to hurt her...but it was so much easier than explaining to Evan what was going on.

She's not talking about anything.

Isabella's head lifted to look at him as the words left his mouth, a hurt expression fluttering across her face. He was embarrassed by her. He didn't want his friends to know. That must have been why he didn't want to go to the dance with her. He was ahsamed of being seen in public with her.

She felt tears burning in her eyes and immediately turned away, hurrying off down the hall.

Evan watched her go, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly. "What was that all about?"

He felt like he was going to vomit, just at the sight of her face. It hurt him to see her like that, especially that he had caused it. But he had no spine. He wouldn't say anything, not in front of Evan. He just didn't feel like..dealing with it.

And he caught the tears just as she turned away, and it made his chest hurt. But he still stood there, looking pathetic, before he turned to Evan. He really just wanted to punch him.

"Fucking asshole," he said, shoving his shoulder. He wanted to run after her, stop her and tell her he was sorry, but...he didn't.
