Isabella didn't know why she was doing this. She was sure she could just put it off and get the book back from him another time, or she could really just get another copy of the book. It wasn't as if it cost an awful lot, being paperback, and that way she wouldn't actually have to face him.

Of course... there was a part of her that wanted to see him again. Despite the fact that he had said he didn't care about her and she had a horrid feeling meeting him again was just going to end even worse than it had the first time, she still wanted to talk to him. They'd only had two encounters- well, three if you wished to count the wall-punching incident that had happened earlier in the day.

But with the way things were going, Isabella didn't have an awful lot of faith that things were going to turn out that way. She'd been wandering the castle, peeking into abandoned classrooms, checked the astronomy tower, everywhere she could think of in attempt to track him down. After an hour of walking, she was beginning to think he might have been messing with her. Maybe he was in the Slytherin common room and was sending her on a wild goose chase to spite her.

She slowed in her steps, head ducking in frustration. This was ridiculous. She should just go back to the commons. She should have been reading coursework anyway. Sighing softly, she lifted her head and was about to turn when she saw a shoe sticking out around the corner. One more corridor wouldn't hurt. She slowly rounded the corridor, letting out a small sigh of relief. "Ben."

It would have been a lot easier if Ben was sober, but that just wasn't how he operated. he also wouldn't have been there if he were still sober. He wouldn't have spoken to her, or gone to return the book back. Actions, thoughts and words done while under the influence of alcohol were always a sober man's thoughts and actions. He was thinking all of these things, but the alcohol was allowing him to actually say them (or pretenting him from keeping it all in.)

"Yes, you are," he stated matter-of-factly, slurring his words slightly. He just kept staring at her. He closed his eyes then, leaning his head against the wall again. "You shouldn't worry. Worrying makes no sense."

Isabella almost let her head droop against his shoulder, but caught herself as she realized what she was doing. Her hands grasped her back tighter as she remembered what he had said earlier, how he didn't care, how he had walked off, let her run off without a care.

"Someone has to," she murmured. She dug into her bag and transfigured the pocket mirror Kaida had given her into a cup, another charm quickly filling it with water. "Here." She set it in front of him.

"Did you... mean what you said earlier?" she whispered, not daring to look over at him. True, his drunken word didn't mean much, but at least it might give her a shred of hope if he denied it.

"Why should you worry when everything's shite anyway?" he muttered, his face turned up towards the ceiling, his eyes still closed. He was sort of talking to her, or really just talking aloud, no filter system as to what should stay in his head and not escape his mouth.

When she said here, he opened his eyes, looking down at the cup. He reached out, nearly knocking it over, but he grabbed at it, spilling water on himself. "Fuck," he said. "Is this.." he paused, taking a drink. "This isn't alcohol."

He took another sip, though. He didn't care. "Meant what?" he asked.

"Not everything," she answered gently.

She sighed and shook her head as he spilled water on himself, glad it was just that rather than something that might have made an awful mess of things. She opted not to comment as he proclaimed the lack of alcohol in his glass becuase, even if he was seriously inebriated, he was likely to be able to see through one of Isabella's lies.

"Earlier today," she explained. "When you said you... didn't care."

"Yes, everything," Ben stated. At least he could answer on time. The things in his mind were just spilling now. "What would you know? No one bloody understands what half of us have to go through," he muttered. "Fucking parents look down on everyone else, but we can't get it together. Fuckin' disown their kids at the first sign of embarrassing the family. All the shite I've done and said over the years, and Elena gets disowned after one bloody thing." He shook his head, his hands going to envelope his face, his fingers raking through his long, shaggy hair. "Fucking shite," he muttered.

He didn't even realize what he was saying. Nor was he making much sense. He didn't even realize taht he was divulging deeper into anything he had ever shared with anyone. Even going deeper into his own mind. He never talked like this, much less to some girl.

He took another drink, swallowing as he thought over what she asked him. "I say I don't care about most things." He stated.

Isabella had heard that people were more brutally honest when they were drunk, but she hadn't expected the cascade of emotion that came from him. She hesitated for a moment. "That isn't fair," she agreed slowly. "And it's... awful, but not everything's gone bad. She still loves you, Elena, doesn't she? That's a good thing." She didn't know the full extent of their relationnship, but she knew they were close, and she was fairly certain she'd seen Elena practically tackle him before they boarded the express. That was love.

"Do you mean it?" she prodded gently.

"Everything has gone bad," he said, "I make everything worse. Elena still loves me, sure," he answered, "but i'll be disowned. Soon. And then what the fuck do I do?" He threw his hands up in the hair. "What the FUCK am I going to do? I don't...do anything. There is nothing to do." He couldn't really get what he truly meant out, which was the fact that he had screwed up in school and didn't like anything enough to persue as a career, but he didn't have much of a though process when it came to too many sentences.

"I don't know," he said, closing his eyes again. "I only care about a few things," he said, before he opened them again. "I care about Elena." He looked at her then. "I don't know how I feel about you. I know that I don't not care about you." It was the most honest he had ever been.

She flinched as his voice rose, but didn't move away from him. "You change what you've been doing?" she offered weakly. "Easier said than done, but... you could change things if you really wanted to. It would just... take work."

That bloody heart of hers took off as he said he didn't not care about her. She must have been some sort of masochist, really, with how excited she got at the notion that... well, she wasn't entirely sure what it would mean if he liked her since she was certain neither of their sisters or the majority of the population would approve, nor did she have any experience with this sort of thing what-so-ever. "Okay." She offered a sheepish smile.

"We need to get you out of the hall before a p-" She stopped herself, remembering that she was, in fact, a prefect and was no doubt not following those guidelines in this instance. "Before someone finds you."

Ben groaned, shaking his head furiously. What was he going to change if there was nothing to change into? "It's too late," he mumbled, barely audible. "I'm not-" he started, but couldn't find a word, "I can't-" he tried again, but to no avail, so he shut his mouth and sighed.

That was the problem with Ben. It was always 'I can't' and 'I won't'.

Ben caught the smile on her face, but he couldn't exactly remember why she was smiling. What had he said? And why was she always smiling at him like that? Elena only smiled at him like that when she knew something he didn't, or...when he was being nice and hadn't realized It or something to that effect. But he couldn't for the life of him remember what it was he had just said. All he did know, though, was that he liked her smile.

"Okay," he finally said when she suggested they leave. He tipped slightly to the side in an attempt to get IP, sliding to the ground. With an 'umph!', he pushed himself up slowly.

Bella watched on warily as Ben heaved himself to his feet. He didn't exactly look ready to go anywhere. "Can you walk?" she asked hesitantly. "We're not too far from the dungeons, but it's going to involve... stairs." She could see that ending quite badly, possibly for both of them if he somehow latched on to her in the process.

Ben finally stood up, one hand on the wall, slightly hunched over. Reaching out to her, his fingers caught the sleeve of her shirt and he tugged her towards him. Once she was standing next to him, he looped his arm across her shoulders. "I need help," he slurred.

She let out a small squeak of surprise as he yanked her over toward him, blushing furiously as his arm draped nonchalantly across her back. It took a moment for her to remember she was supposed to breath, that she needed to start walking, and that Ben was far to drunk for any of this to mean even the slightest little thing. Right.

Hesitantly, her hand reached up for his wrist to help support him, and she pointedly ignored the slight tingling feeling emitting from her skin. "Okay." Her voice came out an octave higher than normal, and she cleared her throat before speaking again. "Let's go. Slowly, yeah?"

Ben started to walk, stumbling slightly, but he steaded himself on her. He was quiet, only for a moment, before he turned his head to look at her. Noticing their faces were close, he smirked. "You know," he said, his words dragged out, "I would be snogging you right now." Again, no filter system.

Isabella's feet stopped working. Her head whipped around to face his, but the close proximity proved to make her only more embarrassed, and she quickly turned away again. "I don't think so," she managed to squeak out, willing her knees to hold steady. "I'm uh- I've- Let's just... go." She took another shaky step.

"No, really," Ben babbled on, nodding his head, but really it was only a mere bob, his head falling slightly. "I usually snog girls when I get pissed." He stated it as if it was a fact, as if he were telling her his favorite snack food or what he does during the day. "I snog lots of girls." He stumbled then, leaning against her.

Ben's stumble was all it took. Bella's weak knees promptly gave out, and with a yelp of surprise, she was heading down. Her tailbone was hurting something fierce, but she seemed to be okay. The sudden addition of Ben's weight, however, served to knock the air out of her with a loud 'oof!', and her back was against the floor with a good hundred and fifty pounds plus atop her. She groaned weakly, a hand reaching up for her head. Wasn't this just peachy?

Ben didn't even realize what was happening until it happened. He had no way to protect himself from the fall, or her, or aim where he fell. His body just went down, like a dead weight, and he landed with half a groan, a slight mumble of something that probably wasn't even a word, and he fell onto her. It took him a moment to realize, before he laughed. Loudly. A drunken laugh, and looked down at her. "Fuck, how'd you get there?"

"Ben..." she groaned. "Can you... get off? You're... really heavy." In any other circumstance, she might have enjoyed that close proximity. She would have blushed furiously at the bodily contact, but right now, she was having trouble breathing and the flush in her cheeks was far more from embarrassment at falling flat on her arse than anything else.

"I could get off," he joked, smirking at her, trying to be cheeky but it was just..innappropriate, "if you let me." Laughing, he rolled off of her, rolling onto his back and laying sprawled out on the floor. If anyone were to walk by in that moment, he would be expelled, for sure. Or something equally horrible. It was obvious he was drunk, and he just kept laughing.

Bella stared at him, slightly horrified, mostly mortified, until he finally got off. She sighed softly and heaved herself up to a sitting position, eyeing him warily. This was going to be an issue. "Ben. Ben! We need to go!"

But Ben couldn't get up. He stared up at the ceiling, as a portrait near by snickered at him. "I can't," he stated plainly, making a poor attempt to lift his leg, but it fell heavily down. "Nope. Can't."

"...But... I can't carry you," she protested weakly. "If someone finds you, you'll be in a lot of trouble." And she would be, too, if she got caught helping him escape punishment. She was sort of supposed to be maintaining order after all. "I could... hover you. Maybe." It would take a lot of concentration that she wasn't entirely sure she could pull off with someone like Ben who was exceedingly talented when it came to distracting her.

Ben groaned. "No, no," he said, rolling over on his side. "I'll get up." He rolled again, and weakly got up, very slowly, pushing himself up on his hands, and then climbing onto his knees. He stopped when he was rested on his knees, his hands rubbing at his eyes. For a moment he wondered...where was he? He pushed his hair out of his eyes and looked around. He looked at Isabella, blinking, and then moved, wobbling slightly. There was one thing she had siad that was ringing in his mind, although it had been a few minutes now. "What do you care, anyway?" he asked. It had been directed to her statement about someone finding him and him being in trouble. "Just leave me if you don't want to get...detention." Leaning one hand on the wall, he got up slowly, leaning against the wall as he slid up onto his two feet. "Don't..." he said, holding his hands out, "touch me."

She had been moving to assist him when he ordered her not to touch him, and she hesitantly withdrew, looking embarrassed. "I... You need help," she said softly. "I won't get detention." Or maybe she would, but she didn't want to just leave him there either.

Bella sighed. "Okay. Take it slow then, will you? We've got stairs coming up." And she seriously doubted his ability to make it down those without assistance, though hopefully the railing would assist him somewhat. Once they got down those, they were basically home free.

Ben scoffed at her comment. "I'm fine," he grumbled, making his way towards the stairs. He stopped short in front of the stairs, before he grabbed the landing and headed down them. He stumbled a bit, leaning on the railing, but eventually he got down, slightly safely.

She was following him very closely, arms ready to reach out and snatch him should he stumble, but he made it down in one piece, and she let out a small sigh of relief. "Okay. So... your password? Do you remember it?"

Ben stopped in front of the entranceway to his house, staring at the portrait, which stared back at him. "It should be assfucking," he mumbled, and the portrait made a horrified face. He waved his hand at it, grumbling the password, and it swung open fast, nearly knocking him over. He stumbled forward, flying inside, smashing his head on the wall. "FUCK!" he cried, holding it with his eyes shut.

Isabella let out a small gasp of surprise as he cursed, quickly apologizing to the portrait just in time to see Ben smash into the wall.

"Er... Ben, are you okay? I can't... I'm not allowed inside."

Ben groaned, swatting his hand at her. "Fine," he said, but his head was throbbing. He got up, slightly, still against the wall, and stumbled through the corridor. The portrait swung shut behind him, making a face at her, and Ben was left to find his way to his room alone.

Isabella stared at the portrait, having just had it slammed in her face. "...Bye," she mumbled weakly, before starting the journey back to the Ravenclaw common room.
