Throughout the whole summer Westly had actually gone back on his word of sleeping in every day. At least four times a week, Westly had been getting up earlier than Adam even, and for at least an hour was spent on Westly's painting. A portrait actually, of Adam sleeping. It was true when Westly said he didn't paint portraits a lot. He didn't like being watched while he did it. But he had promised Adam before he would do a painting for him, and even if his boyfriend didn't remember or ask about his painting, he kept his promise anyway. He compromised of course, with a portrait of a sleeping Adam. It was precarious at times... since Adam was never usually in the same position, so Westly would have to nudge him a bit without waking him. After the hour was done, he'd keep his work hidden and crawl back into bed and back to sleep curled up next to Adam.

This morning was different however. The painting was done and ready just in time for Adam's 18th birthday. They hadn't been able to celebrate Westly's birthday since they started dating after the fact... but Westly knew he had to do something special for Adam. So Wes had gotten up to arrange his easel set up by the bed with a small cloth to cover the painting till he was ready to reveal it. He crawled back into bed, and placed a kiss on Adam's lips and stroked his hands down Adam's chest. "Wake up birthday boy," he said softly waiting for Adam to wake up.

Adam was not usually such a heavy sleeper. In truth, he prided himself on the fact that he could wake up at the smallest distrubance. But lately, since Westly had moved in his home in Venice, he had been catching Westly's sleepy bug and had been sleeping in a lot more. If the other had not been there, he might always have been up early at five a.m. However, Westly was always on his bed, sleeping until the late morning. Adam could think of plenty of reason why he should always wake up- food to cook, rooms to clean, errands to run- but one look at the peaceful figure on his side, the single reason why he should stay always wins over the rest.

The morning of his birthday, he stirred at the gentle voice that spoke to him, and light fingers tracing circles on his bare chest. Light eyes fluttered open to look into the gorgeous face of his boyfriend, hovering over him. A small smile spread across his lips before he leaned up to place a kiss on his lips. "Thank you." he said sleepily, rubbing his eyes before he stretched under Wes. "I have to mention, this is the best birthday wake up call I've ever gotten." he said, stroking his face. "You're up pretty early..."

Westly was quite impressed with himself that he could make Adam sleep longer. If not just for the allure of staying longer in bed together, it probably had to do with the actual lack of sleeping they did in bed during the night. But yes, while Westly was here, Adam was more than free to stay in bed with him. Sleeping in was necessity to Westly in the summer, when it was such a luxury during the school year.

He smiled down at Adam when the other kissed him back. Westly could feel how much Adam loved him with the look he gave him at being the first thing he saw when he woke up. He loved him so much, and he wanted today to be special. "Well that just means I'll have to do a better job everywhere," Westly said grinning, thinking of a few things he could have done. "I know, but I was too excited to sleep much longer," he said grinning down at Adam. "I wanted to give you your present," Westly said placing one last kiss on Adam's lips, before pushing back to the edge of the bed to grab the cloth. He looked over his shoulder at Adam to see if he was paying attention and he pulled the cloth down to reveal the painting.

Adam had always been an early riser even in school. Since he was young, he's never really liked sleeping. It seemed to him as if he missed what was happening in the worlds when he closed his eyes, and being quite an adventurous person, he's never liked the feeling of not knowing things. This morning however, he was certainly glad he was able to miss something, else he wouldn't have felt surprised with receving the best gift ever.

There at the foot of his bed stood at easel that held a painting draped in cloth. "Westly..." he said in awe, biting his lip in anticipation as he pushed himself on his elbows. Slowly, the painting was revealed and when he had beheld the image painted so skillfully on the canvas, the image of himself sleeping on his bed, his mouth fell open. He pushed himself in a sitting position, then moved to drape one hand over the other's waist, his eyes still on the painting, taking in every detail, every genius swipe of the brush. Then he looked back at Westly. "How did you...?" He couldn't speak. Instead he exhaled a soft breath before encircling his arms tighter around Westly's waist and claiming his lips in a kiss that spoke of his gratitude, his love. "You're... amazing." he whispered when he pulled away a minute later. "I love you. So much. This is... the best gift I've ever received."

Westly despite it all was actually blushing at Adam's reaction. His painting was one of the things Westly was so modest about. That was one of the reasons he couldn't let Adam know before he was doing it, that's why he never did portraits. He couldn't have people nearby.

He leaned into Adam's embrace, very happy that he was the first thing Adam reached for while admiring his painting. He smiled at the cut off question and felt those arms tighten. Westly smiled and returned the other's longing kiss of love before leaning his head back to look at Adam. "I love you. Is it... really?" Westly asked. He didn't know if it was the best gift... but he was glad Adam liked it so much. "I'd get up early for about an hour to work on it. Not every day, but frequently. I did more recently so I could finish it before your birthday and before I had to go back to Hogwarts."

Gentle hands grazed Westly's defined, tinted cheeks. Such was a feat, considering Adam hardly made the other blush. Though he has constantly tried to, he did always succeed. It was funny to see it happen when he wasn't actually attempting to.

"The best." Adam assured him, turning to look back at the painting of his sleeping self and leaning his head against Westly's. "Every detail is exuisite." he commented, his lips parted. "And I feel so... special. You actually wake up early for me. That's something that has left me quite humbled."

Adam leaned to kiss him again, this time, taking is time with moving his lips sensually against Westly's, taking the plump bottom between his before sucking gently. His lips parted a bit more, before his tongue lightly swiped over the abused flesh, all why he practically purrd in the other's arms. It certainly was the best present he's ever gotten, and he believed things could only get better from that point on. "You don't have anything planned for us today, do you?" he asked then, brushing his nose against he other's.

"You better feel special," Westly said grinning at Adam's humbled words and he leaned into the other comfortably. He brushed his warming cheek, and stared at his painting so affectionately. "You're worth losing valuable sleep over," he said chuckling a bit looking up at Adam before he kissed him again.

And what a kiss it was. Wes moaned happily against Adam's lips. The way he sucked on his lip and calmed it with his tongue. He loved it when Adam did that, and Westly darted his own tongue out to deepen the kiss more, before the other pulled away. "No, nothing in particular," Westly answered and grinned as Adam brushed his nose. "I didn't know what you usually do for your birthday so... I was just going to suggest we do what you want to do."

"Well, I have a birthday ritual that I haven't broken since I was legally allowed to travel by myself." Adam spoke softly, his tone careful so as not to ruin the atmosphere of love that enveloped ther two of them. Carefully, he sat back on the mattress and tugged at the other's hand so he could sit on his lap. "I've always left to travel, to go to a place I haven't been on before. Last year, I had gone to Mumbai, India where I soaked everything in for a whole day, and experienced the culture the way it was supposed to be celebrated."

A pause as Adam reached a hand up to brush against Westly's neck, then down his chest. "This year, I've already made plans to carry out the tradition, if you don't mind..." he trailed off meaningfully and looked away, with the purpose to mislead. Then he looked back at Wes with a smile on his face. "But I've made reservations for two, if that's something you'd find okay..." A grin.

"Well let's hear it," Westly said, letting Adam pull him back into his lap. He smiled listening to Adam's softer tones, trying to keep the mood of the morning. He listened curiously as Adam talked about his trip to India the year before. Definitely extravagant. "I believe I remember someone telling me once, you should spend your birthday with all the people you care about," Westly said. He didn't like the sound of Adam going off on his own, even if it was to somewhere fascinating.

But he kept listening and leaned into Adam's hand that was brushing his neck and then his chest letting out a sigh. He didn't make a reaction when Adam said he'd already made plans... well it was his tradition, he could do what he wanted- But then Wes looked at that smile on his face carefully, and he let his excitement show when Adam admitted that Westly would be coming too. "That's more than okay. Where are we going?"

The grin plastered on his features grew when Westly exressed his exictement over their plans for the day. "Well..." he started, tapping his chin thoughtfully. "Well... I was in the mood to go to the other side of the world..." Adam told him, leaning back on his elbows on the mattress and looking up at ceiling just past the other straddling his waist. "A place with a culture I have found most intriguing for years. Tea rituals and Geiko's. Noh dramas and Sushi. Relazing hot springs in the snowy mountains." His gaze darted to Westly. "How is your japanese, Westly?"

Westly stared down at Adam where he sat up straddling the other's waist, and his hands were tracing patterns on Adam's chest absently, as he waited to hear where Adam was taking them. It sounded intriguing already and Westly had his suspicions but when Adam finally let it out, Westly practically giggled. "We're going to Japan?!" he was even more excited now. "Oh Merlin, I've always wanted to go! When are we leaving? How long are we staying for," Westly said leaning down against Adam's chest, asking question after question. "I know a little bit... I'm a little rusty, haven't practiced my languages for a couple of years now. But who cares! We're going to Japan!"

The excitement reflected in Westly's features confirmed to Adam that he had been right in picking their location. He had been torn between the warm humid beaches of Cancun or the hot springs of Japan. The latter won over.

"Yes, we are." Adam announced, his arms wounding around the other's form when he settled on his chest. "I'm glad you've never been there, and actually want to go." When asked when they were leaving, his eyes darted to the clock on their nightstand. "By lunch. We're scheduled to travel by Portkey downtown. And I've always stayed for only one day. Part of the ritual." he told him. "And don't worry. My japanese is superb. I've been re-reading these past days. Now..." he patted the other's waist. "... we should start packing now, dont you think?"

Wes calmed down a bit as he laid on Adam's chest and let the other hold him. Now that he knew where they were going for sure, Wes was just listening to Adam and was all smiles. "Alright, all sounds good to me," Wes said about leaving at lunch. And he was okay with just a day. He'd have to get ready to go back to Hogwarts... but he wouldn't think about that now.

"Well... we don't have to start packing right away," Wes said with a little bit of a pout when Adam was patting his waist. He didn't want to move yet. He just wanted to enjoy being close to Adam. It was Adam's birthday after all, and he didn't want to break out of the mood they were in yet.

Adam pouted when Westly didn't move, but otherwise did not protest. He liked the simple pleasures that he was afforded from having the man he love dretsing comfortably against him, his weight on him a delicious buden he would gladly carry. "Well, we could lie here, first yeah..." he agreed, getting more comfortable as he closed his eyes and relaxed. "I'm planning for us to go to Tokyo first, where I want to experience only one place: Harajuku. We could go anyweher, eat anything you'd like. I already went to Gringott's beforehand for whatever we need, made transactions in changing my Galleons to Yen." he said proudly. "Do you think I'm missing anything?"

Westly was glad Adam did not protest to moving, and he settled comfortably onto of him trailing his fingers over Adam's bare shoulders while he listened to his boyfriend's plan for them. "I highly approve," Westly said grinning at where Adam wanted to go. "And other than that I just want to get in a lot of shopping," he said supplying what he wanted to do. He shook his head when Adam asked if he was missing anything, but there was one thing. "You said Tokyo was first... what are we doing after that?"

"Shopping?" Light brows drew together in curiosity. "What are you planning to buy?" he asked, looking down at the man in his arms. The clothes in Japan, as he'd recall were a bit... eccentric. It wasn't very Westly, though an image of his boyfriend in a maid's get up was amusing. He looked away laughing, but recovered quickly when asked. "Well, that would be a surprise. I don't want to feed you everything we're doing. That wouldn't be fun. The point of this tradition is to go with the flow..."

"Mmmhmm," Westly said grinning and looking at Adam's curious look. "Well... some designer jeans, some funky shirts... well I can't tell you everything. You'll just have to wait and see," he said, and didn't feel so bad about it when Adam was withholding on information. "Excuse me, we're already breaking tradition because I'm going with you. So you always know what you're doing, so I should know too!"

"I don't always now what I'm doing." Adma retorted gently in a matter-of-fact tone. "There is one reason I want to go to certain places. I do them once I get there, but the rest of the things I do are products of sponteneity. It's fun." His hands absently ran up and down Wes' spine as he spoke, a gesture that relaxed him more than anything. "Come on, just... let me surprise you? I promise you you'll adore me for it. Well... adore me more..." he chuckled heartily.

"Now come on, don't be so hard on yourself," Westly said to Adam's matter-of-fact tone. Maybe he was spontaneous a lot of the time, but he actually planned a lot too. "It does sound fun, but you can't honestly wander through a whole country without a plan. We only have a day after all," he said pouting his curiosity at it's height now. "Can't you at least tell me where we are staying the night? I already love you, but I'm rather impatient when waiting for things that make me adore you more."

"Oh, I always plan. I have a plan for everything, you know that. But I was just explaining that in the tradition, I never always know where I am going, who I'll end up meeting, where I sleep... It's the whole point of everything. Living. But I'm always equipped with an escape plan the next day just in case. This time though, I am with company. I cannot just let you sleep... anywhere. No." He shook his head lightly, brush strokes of blond hair falling over his face. He blew at them impatiently. "This time, I cam eprepared. But I will not tell you. Live a little, love. You'll know within the day anyway!"

Well Westly supposed it was a bit of comfort to know that Adam did know where they were staying for the night... even if he wouldn't tell him. "Alright fine. I'll just have to wait," Wes said with a sigh reaching up to brush the hair out of Adam's face. But still... Adam's explanation left him unsettled. The way Adam said not knowing who he'd meet... and where he would sleep. He didn't like the sound of it.

"Something on your mind?" Adam asked. there was a srange expression that crossed Wesly's features when he had explained how he does his tradition. It was one that left him wondering what was going through his mind, and like with most things, Adam doesn't like being left in the disuieting silence. A hand circled the wrist Westly was using to brush his hair back from his features. "Tell me..." he whispered, but there was a tone akin to begging intertwined with his words.

"I don't really... want to say," Westly said when Adam grabbed his wrist and asked him to tell. It wasn't important... and Westly didn't want to think about it anyway. It was in the past, when Adam and Wes hadn't even thought of being together so it shouldn't even matter... "When you say... you didn't know who you'd meet up with, or where you'd sleep... are you saying that-" Wes said but stopped and bit his lip. "Nevermind, I don't want to know," he said burying his face in Adam's shoulder.

Adam's gaze didn't falter from Westly's face even through the uick succession of emotions that crossed his features. He was silenced instantly by the look of pain in those eyes, then sighed, wrapping his arms tighter around the other's shoudlers when he hid on his shoulder. He was about to answer his uesions when the other expressed hwo he didn't want to know after all. Yes, he had been with different people in different countries before, but even so, he's always considered that he's still spent his birthdays alone. "I'm spending my birthday with someone I love for the first time today." He told him. "The first time. I understand if you'd rather not hear what has happened in my past, even though I know you have an idea. But I would like tto ask that you... do not dwell on such thoughts? I'd rather not think about it myself..."

It was stupid really. Westly knew that Adam had been with other people. Even the other countries bit he knew too, since Adam lived in Venice on his own for how long now? But it was still annoying to think about. Even if Westly was guilty of the same thing... He lifted his head up when Adam said he was spending it with him someone he loved. "I know..." Westly said leaning up to kiss Adam quickly. "I'm just being stupid... worrying about things like that. You don't worry about things I may have done."

"Oh? You think so?" Adam countered, laughing. If only Westly knew how much it brought him physical pain to simply think of the scene he had seen in the past Christmas Party, when Westly had been with some other man. What more anguish did he bring upon himself when he thought of what could have happened if he had not walked in on them, what has happened with Westly and other men. Jealousy would tear at his chest, but he often just hid it to himself, knowing no good would come of it if he'd dare let Westly know that he's been thinking about such nonsensical matters.

"No, don't say that. You're not stupid." Adam said, taking the other's face in his hands. "Look at you. I've upset you. I should have been more careful with the things I've said. Sorry." He leaned up to kiss his cheek. "Let's not think about it any longer. This day is all about you and me. Saying I'm... excited about it is a shameful understatement. Now, should we pack? We can bring one luggage for both our things?" It was such a couple thing to do, but to him, it has become quite... natural. "For your purchases- which I would think would be a lot- we can just bring a bigger luggage, put the smaller one in it so we'll only have to shrink one." A grin.
