Who: Jareth and everyone!
When: Day Four, evening
What: The King 'invites' everyone to his masque...
Where: Jareth's castle
Rating: Anywhere from G to R, I suppose
Status: Complete

It had been raining earlier in the day, but it had cleared up a short time ago. Jareth looked out the window of his massive ballroom, empty for now, and felt a little bit disoriented by the fact that the Labyrinth had just disappeared. Of course, he'd made it happen, but it had been a long time since he'd felt so exposed. But he couldn't very well have people needing to wander through the Labyrinth, could he? And the two who had been running it had been transported to the castle already, and he knew from the screams of rage that they were being dressed at this very moment.

The king smiled and turned away from the window, checking out his ballroom. It was quite spectacular, with a large orchestra pit, many snack tables, and, of course, lots of empty space for dancing. This, he figured, would be a night to remember. He snapped his fingers and peered into the crystal that appeared there, scrying on each and every person he'd brought to the Underground. Some, he knew wouldn't come on their own, and he sent crystals floating out to ensare them. Of course, some might just be strong enough to resist that pull, so he had goblins standing by to bring others in. Whether willing or not, everyone would be attending, he'd seen to that.

Dressed in his finery, with an evil looking mask in the guise of a leering demon, he walked over to his throne. Draping himself casually over it, he waited. People would be arriving anytime, now. He didn't fool himself for a moment that some wouldn't take this chance to attack him, which was why he wasn't precisely there. Anyone who tried to attack him, he knew, would find their useless effort wasted against what was no more than a projected image.

He gestured, and a goblin slave brought him a glass of wine. This, he was convinced, was going to be a night to remember.

Sarah half expected it to be another goblin speaking to her, and she was about to turn and decline the offer when she realized that the tall figure beside her could not be a goblin. Sarah remained still for a moment and let her eyes travel upwards over the lion's crest and towards the man's mask. She didn't think it was Jareth, the choice in costume and mask wasn't like before. Not to mention a sword wasn't really Jareth's forte. Realizing she was being rude, Sarah finally spoke up.

"Y-yes! I would honored." She reached out to take the others elbow. Sarah was still a bit apprehensive about making her way into the ballroom, the last time she was at one of these things didn't turn out so well.

He watched her as she stared at him for a moment. She was probably trying to figure out who he was behind his mask, but he didn't oblige her and remove it. He wasn't nearly thin enough to be Jareth, nor did he have the same awful hair. He gave her a smile when she agreed and took his elbow. His opposite hand went to rest on the pommel of his sword and he set a pace into the castle.

Arriving in the ballroom was very much like arriving at one of Richard's parties. There were many many people, most that he didn't recognize, although that was not exactly unexpected considering most wore masks. What differed in a very big way was the sudden appearance of a monster rising up from the floor making a terrible screeching noise. He cringed at the sound and then moved to put himself between the monster and Sarah.

He drew he sword, though he didn't rush to dispatch the monster. There were enough people around it that he hoped someone was capable of taking care of it before it got out of hand. Besides, its attack seemed aimed at the King he'd seen the first day on a raised dais sitting on an ornate chair. Pompous ass. Almost as suddenly as it had appeared, it was gone. Robin kept his sword out just in case, but felt that the threat was gone.

Her hand was still in the crook of his arm so he turned back to her and spoke with a slightly amused voice. "I beg many pardons, my lady." He returned the sword to the scabbard at his side, though he kept his hand on the pommel once more, just in case.

Sarah eyes were lost upon the many masked faces as they descend the stairs and into the main ballroom. Many creatures were already dancing, drinking, and talking to the almost hypnotic tone of music. She already knew most people here weren't happy about being taken prisoner against their will, but she hadn't realized the lengths at which some would go. Not until she heard the terrible shrieking sound.

Sarah watched from behind Robin as it rose up, bound in chains wailing prior to being ordered to attack. With her lips hung open, Sarah watched on in a mixture of shock and awe as it sent a wave of attacks across the ballroom towards none other than the Goblin King. Despite the creature being rather terrifying Sarah did step forward as Jareth waved his hand to dismiss the creature. The attacks hadn't even seemed to touch him in the first place.

When Robin spoke again, Sarah looked back to her side and shook her head. "No need for apologies, good sir. It was very noble of you to protect me, you have my thanks." The tone of her voice was much more relaxed than before, and Sarah had to suppress the urge to laugh. The sudden feeling of being sixteen all over again rushed her senses, all those times she spent pretending to be a damsel in distress or a princess in need of a prince.

Robin smiled at her, glad that she wasn't upset by being protected. She seemed like one of the strong women of his age, but less inclined to rush into the fray wielding a dagger the way Marian would have. He appreciated it because it allowed him to focus on the enemy and not on whether or not the damsel would be hurt. The monster was gone, and other than the blackened wall behind the seated King, there appeared to be no damage to speak of. It didn't make sense, but then he'd never seen a monster rise out of the ground before, either. There was nothing like that in the world he came from.

Once things seemed to have returned to normal, Robin led the lady further in. Everyday conversation seemed somehow out of place now, but he tried nevertheless. "How long have you been in this place, lady?" He didn't know her name, and wasn't sure he was supposed to. Otherwise, what was the real purpose of the masks? But if she wanted to give it, he would return the favor. He tried not to ask questions that would require her to supply the information, however.

"I have been here for four days now." It was strange to him that he'd been here for so long now. Four days without Marian. Surely his friends had been hung by now, and those that had gone on the rescue mission were either dead or imprisoned. Not that they couldn't have staged the rescue on their own, but... He didn't want to think about it, so he shook his head slightly. "It's a strange place, I never could have imagined it myself."

Sarah learned long ago that jumping into situations in the Labyrinth could lead to rather bad results. Things were very different here this time around, and she did not want to risk herself or anyone else's lives by jumping right into the middle of the fray. Sarah's eyes were busy roaming over the crowd, searching for signs of injury. Thankfully, it seemed no one was bothered or injured. Most of the goblins barely noticed the disturbance to begin with.

With a soft sigh, Sarah adjusted the hold upon her mask's handle as she turned back towards Robin. "This world takes some getting used to, I know four days is barely enough. I'm sure you must miss your home as well."

Robin was puzzled when she spoke. She sounded as if this were all too familiar to her. How could she know that this world would take some getting used to? Even if Robin could tell that from the beginning, she spoke of it as if she had been here before. Tilting his head slightly he spoke from behind his mask.

"You sound as if you have been here before, lady." He did not immediately address his longing for home. Yes, it was there, most frequently and painfully. He only wished to know if his beloved Marian was alright or if his friends had made it away from the gallows safely. But he couldn't know that, and the pain of it tore at him.

Still, his demeanor spoke nothing of his inner turmoil. Instead, he questioned her. "Tell me, what do you know of this place?"

"Unfortunatly, I have been here before, but this place is very different from the last time I saw it," Sarah paused as she searched for words to describe in more detail, but it was hard to say the least. The details of her last visit were polluted by time. "My brother was taken away and brought here as a child, I challenged Jareth's Labyrinth to win him back. I was very young then."

Sarah took a moment to tuck some fallen hair back behind an ear, before she eased out of the way of a pair of dancers. "This is all Jareth's home - he is after all 'The Goblin King', this Castle, the Goblin City just outside of it, the Labyrinth beyond its walls, and the new lands we occupy. Magical creatures, like the ones out of stories of all shapes and sizes live here as well. I used to think this place was just make believe, but as it turns out its not that way at all."

It troubled Robin that this sweet lady had been brought to this place before. "It seems new to me, but also as if someone were trying to make it appear older. I imagine it must be that King. If he has the power to hold us here, he must have the power to alter the appearance of the place. I am sorry that you have had to experience this place more than once." He gave her a sympathetic smile and then something she'd said registered with him.

"You say you challenged the labyrinth? Then you know how to solve it? King Jareth said that if we won through, we might gain our freedom. Do you think you could do it again?" He looked around them and then toward the dance floor. "Would you like to dance? We can continue to speak without being so much in the way." He gave her a smile and held out a hand to her to take.

Sarah eased her hand into Robin's as she accepted the offer to dance with a soft nod. It would have been a waste to have gotten all dressed up and not danced at least once. She waited until they both had begun to move with the music, before she answered Robin's questions from before.

"This place is very different from before, I would imagine the Labyrinth as well must have changed. I can't promise I know the exact way through it, but there's a chance my experiences from before could help solve some of its mysteries." Sarah paused for a moment as she felt their bodies begin to sway in the opposing direction. "Jareth won't make it easy, he didn't last time. If it wasn't for the friends I met here, I probably would have never made it."

Sarah fell silent as she wondered about the others she had left behind. She couldn't help but wonder if they were all still all right or even in this place to begin with.

He was delighted that she accepted his offer and led her out onto the dance floor. He circled her waist with his hand and held her hand in his other. The song was unfamiliar to him, but he recognized the rhythm and easily led her in a simple dance.

He listened with interest as she spoke of her previous encounter with the labyrinth. He found it strange, and a bit unnerving that this woman had been brought to this situation by the same man for a second time. "I wonder that he would let you go if you made it through the labyrinth a second time. He seems to enjoy your presence here." He twirled her and brought her back, reassuming the position he'd held her in earlier. It felt calming and familiar to have a woman in his arms, even if it wasn't Marian.

He noticed when she got lost in her own thoughts and he didn't disturb her. He continued to dance, leading her around the floor until the song ended. Stepping back a pace he bowed to her and dropped his lips against her knuckles. "Thank you for the dance, lady." He smiled from behind his mask. "You have given me much to think on and I do not wish to keep you from other potential partners so I will take my leave, if you do not mind. Good evening, fair lady."
