Entry tags:complete, day three, ianto jones, jack harkness

WHO: Jack Harkness, Ianto Jones
WHAT: well, well, look what the Rift dragged in.
WHEN: Day Three, Late Evening
WHERE: in the hall, outside Jack's dormitory
STATUS: complete!
RATING: PG

For Jack Harkness, it had been a rather full day. First there was the meeting of the elf (Legolas, Jack fondly remembered) and... oh... Jack smiled fondly. His Doctor. His Doctor was here, wherever here was. But having the Doctor and Rose here? There was nothing on Earth (or any other universe he'd found himself in for that matter) that could top it.

No, there was one thing.

Jack paused outside his door, closing his eyes for the briefest of moments. It wasn't that he had forgotten him (how could he, really?) -- but with all the excitement of the few days? Well... Jack rested his forehead against the door to his dormitory. With everything that had happened, Jack's stomach twisted uncomfortably. What was going on in Cardiff? How were they faring?

Ianto...

Sighing, Jack slipped his key into the lock. No chance of going home and no way of knowing how they were doing. Like the last time he'd been taken, but at least then Jack knew all he would have to do would be to ask the Doctor to go back to Cardiff. Now, there was no hope of return. Fucking fantastic.

Oh for the love of... Jack fought the desire to throw his hands up in frustration. He knew that because they'd been shagging at work (and elsewhere for that matter) for the better part of a year and Jack, consequently, knew every inch of Ianto's body.

"Really, why Retcon?" Jack asked, shrugging. "No one wants to forget me. Tragic the time I had to Retcon Gwen but that all worked out for the best, did it not?" The strange thing was that Jack almost found this to be amusing. Emphasis on the 'almost' bit. "Come on, what's a little bit of a paradox between friends?" Jack asked, reaching out a hand to clap on Ianto's shoulder. As, obviously, sincerity hadn't worked, Jack fell back to his normal routine: laugh everything off and pretend like it just didn't matter. "Tailors may have the wonderful bonus perk of getting to have their hands all over a man, but you have to admit this is so much more fun."

Only Jack Harkness would turn giddy over the possibility of paradoxes. "My guess is this place is out of time and can pull anyone in, thus creating a new time line for us and where we were or, rather, when we were no longer really matters."

Ianto didn't bother to hide the rolling of his eyes. The only thing larger than Jack's ego was... well, if Jack was really telling the truth then Ianto knew the answer to the question. Or would know the answer to that question sometime soon. Or would have done so if they'd not been sucked up into whatever weird Rift-thing this was, for Ianto had no doubts that this was just abnormal Rift activity.

He straightened his posture and cleared his throat. "I'm going to find my room now, sir, if you won't be needing anything else? We can get together in the morning, perhaps, to brainstorm how we can contact the others to get out of here. Do you have any sort of equipment with you?"

There was nothing wrong with Jack's ego, particularly because he knew he could back up everything: from his intelligence all the way down through his skills in the bedroom. So, really, why not have a bit of an ego. Besides, Jack also knew that none of them would have him any other way either. The ego just plain came with the territory.

"And, for the record, I thought we'd gotten past the sir business. Save when you're still trying to be cheeky in bed." Really, any time now Jack would cease with the bedroom references. Maybe. He held up his left hand, shirt sleeve falling away from the wrist strap. "It's dead as it always is. Not even the TARDIS is functioning properly. If neither the Doctor or I could figure out a way out of this place, I don't think there is one." Because with two brilliant men on the case, if they couldn't figure it out, no one could.

"Jack," Ianto said, stepping back into his boss's personal space. But rather than following up the name with any sort of spoken sentiment, he cupped Jack's cheeks in his hands and drew him close, tilting his chin just a little so that their lips could meet again.

This time, the kiss was slow, Ianto fully participating as he moved his jaw sensuously against Jack's, teasing his lips without trying to push them open. He felt the heat that always existed between them growing with each passing second, but before it could explode, he stepped back.

"There," he said. "Now that, Captain, is how a first kiss should be. Good night, I'll see you in the morning."

Jack had lifted one eyebrow, perfectly arched, when Ianto spoke his name. Then his hands were on his cheeks and suddenly there was no space between them at all. Pushing quickly past the surprise at the initiative taken (particularly with how stringently Ianto had protested any relations between them), Jack took one final step forward, his hands cupping Ianto's face in a similar manner.

For Jack, it was so familiar to kiss Ianto like this, knowing what would come next. Jack had just been about to angle the kiss deeper, tease Ianto's lips apart when the other man stepped back. He was damn near dumbfounded when Ianto stepped back. "How a first..." Jack shook his head, trying to swim past the lust and desire that threatened to cloud his brain. He tilted his head to the side, giving Ianto a half-smile. "There was nothing wrong with the way I kissed you before," Jack said, a hint of indignation in his voice. "Not that this wasn't nice, mind." Jack took a step towards Ianto. "I could go for a second try at this whole 'first kiss' thing."

Damn the half-smile. It would be one thing if it were unintentional, but Jack knew damned well what he was doing. At times Ianto wondered if every move was calculated. And at times he didn't care.

"There was indeed," Ianto said, smoothing out his waistcoat. "It smacked of impropriety. If you want to get into these trousers, Jack, it's going to take more than the assertion that you've been there before and a natty little smile. Now, I'm going to get some rest. I suggest you do the same. I'm sure I'll see you tomorrow." He glanced at the doors, discovered the one with his name on it (two down from Jack's), and slipped his key into the lock.

Once upon a time Jack did make sure that every move was perfectly calculated. He learned long ago what a quirked smile or an arched eyebrow did to another. Over the years, though, it became less a conscious act and more sheer habit.

"It smacked of a man being very relieved to see his partner," Jack replied, brushing the non-existent lint from his trousers. Speaking of eyebrow quirks, Jack lifted one right then and there. "Why, that almost sounds like a challenge," Jack said, noting which door was Ianto's. Almost about to head back to his own room, Jack paused, slipped one hand behind Ianto's head, kissing him once more on the lips. Different then his original kiss, keeping his mouth close-lipped, but managing to convey in the way his mouth moved against Ianto's that it was a challenge he was certainly up to. Releasing him, Jack turned on his heel, heading back to his own room. "Something to think about," He said with a slight wave of his hand.

Ianto's eyes stayed closed for a few moments, feeling the effects of the kiss even after Jack had pulled back. If nothing else, Jack kissed him with the surety of someone who had been there before, and Ianto couldn't deny that this was something he wanted, that he'd been fantasizing about... oh, about since the time they'd captured the pteranodon together. He'd felt like he was betraying Lisa even as he imagined bending Jack over the nearest work station.

"All right then," he said, somewhat absently. he pushed his door open and stumbled inside.
