When Legolas rose from his reverie, all was as it had been before. He was still in a strange room, unlike anything he had been in before, and it was still completely new and a little bit scary. At least in Mirage, the place had adapted. He had wanted it to look like his woodland home, and it had. Here, it stubbornly stayed the same. And what a place it was, full of nothing that caught the eye, nothing beautiful. He wasn't sure he liked it.

But it was shelter, and he needed that to keep him safe while he took his rest. That was good enough. He likely wouldn't be spending much time in this ugly, plain room, he decided. It didn't take him long at all to get ready to go, tunic, leggings, bow, and knives. That was all he needed, and then he was ready to explore. There was still much to see. It was a chilly day, he noted as he went outside.

The tent city outside looked much the same, he noted. But he hadn't had time on his arrival to look through all of them, and there was still many he had not explored. The smells coming from one particular tent, with the aroma of freshly baked bread and roast venision, caught his attention. He hadn't eaten yet, so that was the first place he headed.

The tent was filled with many tables, and Legolas chose one at random and seated himself gracefully. Soon, he had a plate of food in front of him, and was happily eating away. After a little while, he looked up to notice someone standing nearby. He gave this person an encouraging smile, and a little nod of his head. "Join me, if you will."

Completely comfortable, the elf sat back and watched as the human ate. It was a never ending source of amazment to him how much joy and pleasure these strange creatures took in each and every thing they did. They threw themselves entirely into something, as if they... well, as if they had to live an entire life in less than a century. It made sense, though the elf had no way of knowing he wasn't speaking to a normal human.

"I have a friend, a human Ranger, who was a Captain in the army. I do not think I would know many other ranks." He smiled slightly, amused. While on his own world, he hadn't gone into the details of his lineage, but so many people had reacted so amusingly, he hadn't been able to help it.

The blatent flattery, so different from elven flirting, got an amused eyebrow raise. But the elf didn't look exactly displeased. In fact, it was a game he loved to play, even if he didn't fully know the rules. "You do me great honor, sir." He smiled slightly, and had to admit, he was quite enjoying himself.

"Middle Earth? I fear I do not know." He shrugged. "It is where it is. Where are you from, Captain Jack Harkness?"

Part of Jack always wondered what would happen if he ceased eating. It wasn't as if he'd die of hunger (well, he would but it wasn't exactly permanent), and it wasn't as if his body would stay in an emaciated state either. But the truth of the matter was that Jack loved to eat and would always seek out food. And coffee. Damn this place for not having coffee.

"You know the most important one as far as I'm concerned," Jack said with a slight incline of his head. Jack had met his fair share of royalty, and those who considered themselves to be royalty for that matter -- but rarely did it seem they came in such provocative packaging. Jack wouldn't mind more of these repeat performances.

Jack's smile grew to a grin w hen the elf was, indeed, returning the banter. All the better as far as Jack was concerned. He had a feeling he'd find a way to run into Legolas once more. Come hell or high water. Particularly because he was a nice man and wonderful eyecandy beside.

"From long ago and far away," Jack said, a fond smile on his face. And, surprisingly, Jack spoke the name of home. What did it matter here? "A place called the Boeshane Peninsula." Jack sighed. "And here and there and more places than I could possibly recount as well."

The elf continued to watch curiously as the human ate, talked, and generally flirted. Oh, yes, he was enjoying himself. Jack was a human, yes, but he did have the most interesting ways of looking and talking to someone. Legolas was more than intruiged. He'd been around many humans, but none that acted quite the way Jack did.

"Captain... a very important rank, I understand." Of course, elves didn't have their armies arranged in quite the same way, so his understanding was a little limited. "Are there others under you? A captain of Gondor had many men beneath him..." His small smile turned the innocent-seeming comment into something that could be taken in a very different way.

Legolas nodded slowly and reached for his mug of beer once more. Being an elf, he could drink nearly all day and not feel the slightest bit intoxicated, so he didn't have to worry about that. "I see. Well, we are both very far from home, Captain. It is strange for a child of Mirkwood, such as myself, to even leave the forests, let alone come to a world of dashing captains and stone walls."

Well, Jack wasn't quite human, at least, perhaps, not the sort Legolas may have encountered up until now. When it came to flirting, Jack was indeed a master at it. Or so he thought, anyway. He'd had time to perfect his mannerisms and had learned that sometimes the direct approach was the best one. At least the elf seemed to be enjoying himself as much as Jack was.

"Quite the important rank. There are those even higher up, getting into Air Marshals and the like." Jack waved a dismissive hand. "I prefer the lower ranks of leadership. One gets to work more closely with his men." A slow smile slid across Jack's face as he returned the double entendre with a grin. "A captain is lucky in that respect. He has men both below and above him. And also has the distinct advantage of being able to work his way through the ranks."

Jack had found over the years that drink didn't affect him the way it used to and so he didn't often partake in alcohol any more. Not that he got drunk but he'd done his share of drinking until he couldn't see straight. Around here, however, he'd trust the beer before he'd trust the water. "Quite far from home, Prince. Or, if you'd rather, we can drop the formalities all together." Jack flashed one of his dazzling smiles. "I grew up amongst the sands, though I can understand the pain of leaving behind what is familiar. I hope, though, that the company you keep will help ease that pain. And who knows, perhaps you'd find that forest you seek in there," Jack gestured in the general direction of the Labyrinth.

What Legolas did couldn't quite be called a smirk. But that was mostly just because his elven features tended to make any expression he made look sort of otherworldly, in a strange sort of way. However, if he had been a mortal, he certainly would have been smirking. This was, most definitely, a fun game against a worthy opponant. There was little Legolas enjoyed more.

"I have always found it to be a good thing to have both men above and men beneath." Which was stretching the analogy a little, really, since as a Prince, few were above him. But he liked the way it sounded, and said it with a sort of relish that was, nevertheless, easy to mistake as innocent. At least if one didn't happen to look at his eyes, sparkling with mischief and a clear, sky blue.

"Oh, let's." On his own world, he'd prefered to forgo the title entirely. He'd even allowed the dwarf to call him by his given name, and had little patience for formalities, really. He wasn't from stately Imladris or Lothlorien, after all. His people were, in general, far too merry for such silliness. "The company I am keeping now is doing much to ease the pain." Oh, the flirting. It was pretty much impossible to stop Legolas once he got started. "Oh, yes. Into the Labyrinth... I wonder what lies behind those walls."

Well, whatever Legolas did with his features, Jack heartily approved. There was a way with which his face twisted ever so slightly that made the attractive man all the moreso. When it came to Jack, a smirk was nearly permanently settled into his features, he just managed to contort his face in different ways to either broaden or lessen said smirk. Right now, though? It was one of Jack's smiles that flashed intermittently across his face. Legolas was more than a worthy opponent and so rarely was Jack able to test the full range of his skills in the 'flirting' category.

That smile grew into an almost grin with that statement. "A slightly stretched metaphor, Prince," Jack teased lightly. "But it's the truth of the matter that I agree with. I believe the turn of phrase 'the more the merrier' has been used to describe such a station." Jack saw the mischief in Legolas's eyes and knew the same expression was mirrored in his own.

Inclining his head ever so slightly, Jack raised his mug in a silent toast. "I heartily agree on the company," Jack replied. If Legolas couldn't stop once he got started and Jack never turned off -- the morning may have an interesting outcome. Or, if notthe morning -- some day along the lines. "Fame, fortune?" Jack suggested. He leaned forward with an almost conspirational whisper. "Or, it sounds like, one would receive their freedom by solving. Tempting, but I don't like going in any place blind." The smirk was back. "Best what to know is behind and in front of you at all times."

Legolas shrugged, beyond amused at this point. Oh, it appeared that this Underground wasn't going to be so bad after all. Not with company like this. Normally, humans (or those who looked like them), didn't particularly interest him. He'd had little contact with them. But this man played the game, and with enough strangeness that it was the more exciting. In short, he approved.

"Perhaps so, but apt nevertheless." He laughed, delighted by this whole thing. "Oh, so true. I had not thought that a human sentiment." Whereas elves, before they pairbonded, were very sensual creatures and, well, lived forever. Needless to say, they played a bit.

The elven prince shook his head, not in disapproval but just in confusion. "I know not. Perhaps I shall brave it someday soon." He glanced around at their meal and then raised an eyebrow at Jack. "It would seem our meal is complete. And yet, I have enjoyed talking with you, and would not leave yet. So, tell me, shall we go elsewhere?"

Jack was just as amused, and, too, pleased he had found such a worthy opponent for his games in such short order. Jack hadn't had any dealings with elves (only fairies) up until this point but if the elven race were all like Legolas, he'd have to rectify that situation and in short order. There was a part of Jack that wondered if the elf could sense the strangeness about him -- if those 51st century pheromones he always spoke of were what drew this sudden attraction.

Arching a brow, a slow smile slid across Jack's face. "Depends on the human, I believe. And, perhaps, the era of their birth. I remember once, one time I was sentenced to death. Drank a couple of hypervodkas and wound up in bed with my executioners. Lovely couple that even kept in touch later." Jack gave a look that clearly said he was no stranger to the pleasures of the flesh.

"I have not decided if I'm going to or not," Jack replied. "Part of me wants to see it and part of me doesn't trust this Jareth bloke one bit. Who even knows if the Labyrinth is solvable." Jack pushed his plate away, watching as a goblin came to grab it, scurrying off once more. "Miniature Weevils," Jack muttered under his breath. His attention drew back towards Legolas. "My morning belongs to you."

The blond prince nodded and rose to his feet in one graceful motion. He looked around for a place to bring his plate, but saw nothing. With a half-shrug, he left it where it was on the table. Someone would be along to pick it up soon, he was sure. Or that's what his experience would show him. Quickly, he picked up his mug, drank down the rest of the beer, then left it on the table as well.

"The era of their birth..." He frowned thoughtfully at that statement. "In my own world, I would laugh at such a statement. The race of Men is yet new, and there have not been many eras to live through. Here, however, I would not scoff so easily." He tilted his head to the side as he waited for Jack to rise. "In bed with your executioners... you are unlike any humans I have met."

He glanced at the man, and then looked more closely. "You are not as the men of my age, Jack Harkness. Tell me your story?" He laughed a little. "Starting, I should think, with one simple thing. What is a Weevil?"
