What: The arrival of the Piemaker
Where: In the dead center of the City
Rating: TBA, depends on who answers!
Status: Complete

Ned was not having his best day ever.

He couldn't concentrate, not even on pies, and for him, that was saying something. Baking had always been a way to relieve stress, and when it no longer worked, he was in a bad state. Emerson was investigating the Über-Life Life Insurance case, and Olive was flitting around, rambling to a point that Ned knew she knew something but wouldn't say what. And there was still no sign of Chuck.

Though he knew he'd had to tell her, and he knew it was going to hurt, he wished it hadn't had to be quite like this. And that she wouldn't have reacted as she had. Ned dealt with rejection as well as anyone else might; he'd been dealing with it most of his life and was learning to come to terms. But not even being able to find her made it ten times harder than he would've expected.

So he was holed away, no pun intended, in the kitchen, staring into a bowl as if willing the ingredients to mix themselves together. A noise next to him was the only thing that made him look up, and when he did, he caught himself falling.

Falling? Who fell in the middle of a pie shop?

The next sensation he felt was warmth. It was still chilly, but Ned knew instinctively he was outside, and yet not in the snow. It was bright out, too. Nice. But not home. No, he was most definitely somewhere else. It wasn't some hole in the middle of The Pie Shop's floor he'd fallen into, that was for sure. There was music playing, somewhere near him, and when his eyes focused more clearly, he caught sight of waltzing. Waltzing? Who waltzed anymore? Well, he'd like to, but that was hardly the point. There was the clang of metal on metal, and he peered closer to find people fencing. In strange, peculiar clothing. And... He knew he was crazy when he glanced over his shoulder and caught sight of people on horseback charging towards each other with spears in hand.

Spears? Jousting? In the words of one Emerson Cod, Ned didn't even try to hold his tongue. "Oh, hell no."

"Same, actually I can't say there was anything remotely special about my home world. Unless you count my run in with Jareth and his Goblins when I was younger, its been ten years since that happened ... looking back I figured it was just a dream." It was like she had practically forgotten about it over the course of her adult years. Sarah let her thoughts wander as she was still unsure she wanted to try and figure out just why she had been brought back.

"A detective? That's an interesting side job for a baker." Sarah laughed, it sounded something out of one of the stories her kids might choose for a book report. Interesting though!

"Curious," he pondered out loud. "I thought maybe there might be some connection but..." Ned glanced around at the people surrounding them. Some were trying their hands at fencing, it seemed, and then there was the incredibly loud jousting, and so many other various events. But every single person around him looked so...different. "I don't know. I guess it's just strange to wonder why we picked."

He crossed his arms in front of him, a rare gesture but a protective one just the same. As kind as she'd been, he was still anxious. "Oh, well, I've... Some skill at it. A local PI...roped me into it." It was as good a story as any. Just because they weren't home with people they knew, didn't mean he could just wander about telling his life story. Even Chuck didn't know parts of it! "Really, the pies are more my thing."

"Most of the other people here don't seem to have connections either, unless they know one another already. Some even mentioned being on another weird planet before this." Sarah paused again and laughed, yet another outrageous piece of information was coming out of her mouth.

"You really must be sick of listening to all these outrageous things by now?" She really didn't have to pose it as a question, Sarah was rather over hearing it herself. Sarah adjusted her coat from letting the slightly chill air in and motioned behind her.

"If you'd like, I can take you to the dorms. Or at least show you the way so you know how to get back later?" She thought she should probably be getting back herself, check on things and some other people.

( We can wrap it up, unless you wanna do anything else? )

Ned wasn't exactly tired of listening to the outrageous things. Rather, he wished they weren't outrageous, or that he'd wake up from the crazy dream.

Still, he was a polite sort, and didn't exactly go saying no to offers of help. Usually. "That'd be helpful, I think. I'm sure I could find it on my own, but probably better I don't go charging into places I don't belong. You know, first day and all." He gave her a crooked grin and began walking in the direction she'd motioned.

(works for moi!)

Sarah lead Ned all the way back to the dorms, it wasn't a long walk and along the way she mentioned a few other points about the Ren Faire and what was in what direction. Just in case Ned wanted to explore on his own and not get lost.

When they arrived she pointed him in the right direction of the F Dorm, and reminded him that his room number was on the Key. She smiled and waved as she turned to leave.

"If you need anything, I'm in room 239 in the A dorm." She figured Ned might have more questions and she'd be opening the answering the ones she could later.

As weird as the whole thing was, at least he'd gotten to meet someone nice out of it. It could've been worse. If he was going to have weird dreams about being kidnapped by goblins, at least the woman in them was pretty and helpful.

"Thanks, Sarah," he called after her, before entering his dorm, otherwise known as prison cell.
