WHO: Marcus & Legolas
WHAT: A reunion of friends
WHEN: Day 16
WHERE: The citizens' cafeteria
RATING: PG?
STATUS: Incomplete

Marcus stared into the depths of his soup, his face a blank mask of torment. He was only half-aware of the way his right-hand was idly pushing his spoon around the bottom of the bowl. His entire being was completely numb, and he was not really paying attention to anything except his pain. How had he even come to be in the dining room? Oh, that's right. He hadn't felt like cooking. He didn't feel like anything. Except loss. And sorrow. And pain.

Slowly his hand stopped stirring, no part of his mind spared to motivate it. His vacant expression stared back at him from the glassy surface of his consommé. Marcus didn't see it. He saw another face, Tonks' face. She screamed as she fell away from him, down the black hole of his soup bowl, again and again.

Legolas remembered how he, himself, was taken all that time ago from Middle Earth. It had been similar to what Marcus was discribing now, and he felt his heart break a little for his friend. For once at a loss for words, he simply sat there squeezing his friends hand, allowing him his pain.

"I am deeply grieved to hear this. What sort of monster is this king? To allow us to love each other, and start families, and then to have it all shatter around us. It is nothing short of cruel." His voice, while pitched low so that other people couldn't overhear, was passionate. Once more, Giselle came into his thoughts. How would he react if she were to leave? But surely that was different than how Marcus felt about Tonks.

The defiant look was met with a sympathetic one, and he struggled with words. Normally, he would make some light comment, but he knew that wasn't at all appropriate. So he settled for just being there, trying to be supportive.
