Who: Kirk and Bones
What: A reunion, possibly a medical check up, and Kirk talks his way into Bones' room
Where: City of Illusions
When: Day 13, late evening
Rating/Warning: TBD

When James T. Kirk was 13, he'd stolen his father's antique car and drove it off a cliff. He'd managed to jump from the driver's seat minutes before it went over the edge and, even after that, he'd just barely been able to pull himself up over the ledge. When the officer finally brought him home he received the beating of his young lifetime. Eight years after that he was in the middle of a bar fight when an older man by the name of Christopher Pike walked in and saved him before turning his life around and pointing him in the right direction. He'd met Bones and the two of them began a friendship which would grow to mean the world to him. A year after that Frank tracked him down and Kirk showed in the room he shared with Bones sporting a brand new black eye and a couple of bruises he didn't want to talk about. His best friend had managed to save him from himself back then. Two years later Kirk managed to find his direction once more and saved the Earth from certain destruction and now, not even a week after that, Kirk found himself in unfamiliar territory where a woman from the past had told him that his life was fictional. That it had all been for nothing (though she hadn't actually said that) because his life wasn't real. But... how could that be true? His feelings, his experiences had all been so damn real.

He'd managed to fake it in front of her. When the situation called for it he could hide his feelings as well as, if not better than, anyone else. He just once again threw on a cocky smile and his normal devil may care attitude. As soon as he'd received his journal and room assignment and had left Faith behind, however, it was a different story completely. For most of the day he'd remained curled up upon his bed wondering just how his older counterpart would handle this. Sure, he'd never met the man but the elder Spock had shown him bits and pieces of himself (accidentally, of course). He couldn't help but wonder what this older, stronger, wiser Kirk who had known his father and was loved by their mother, who hadn't had Frank in his life would do. He'd finally grown tired of his own damn moping a little later in the evening and left his room.

If he'd thought the outdoors would do anything to improve his mood he was sorely mistaken. It was cold and damp and it rained entirely too damn much. Some Goblin creature he found outside handed him some kind of gun and attempted to explain the rules while Kirk narrowed his eyes scrutinizingly at the weapon which, according to the Goblin, wasn't really a weapon. It seemed like a fun concept but... Kirk wasn't really in the mood to try and shoot at people he didn't know in an attempt to get that high score no matter how badly he imagined he really really wanted that high score. Instead, he settled for wandering through the light rain and getting himself nice and soaked before heading back to his building and his room. If Bones were around he'd probably have something to say about his condition and his damp clothing but Bones wasn't here. "I never thought I'd miss a grumpy old man so damn much."

The doctor felt a bit calmer once he'd dressed, a bit more in control. Of course, that pretty much immediately went out the window when he came back and looked at him. Somehow, the blanket made things... well, not worse, exactly, but certainly not much better. Covering up a little could make things way more tantalizing. Still, he managed not to stare. Barely. He'd always found the young man attractive, but had no way of knowing if his flirting was serious. Kirk was just a flirtatious person, after all. He didn't want to assume it meant anything that it didn't.

Still, he couldn't help but press a little into Kirk's fingers as they ran through his hair. Without really thinking, he reached out and touched the younger man's face, but only for a second. He quickly remembered what was going on, where they were, and how inappropriate that probably was. Had it been this difficult back home? He could remember times when there had been some tension on his side, at least, usually when they'd been drinking. But it seemed more difficult here, maybe because Kirk was all he had of his home, which tended to make him cling more tightly to him. That was his best theory.

"Yeah, I'm sure that's the best way for Starfleet resources to be used." With an exagerated sigh, the doctor laid down on the bed and pulled the young captain into his arms, blanket and all. With his foot, he managed to hook one of the other blankets, and he pulled it over them both. "You're a horrible liar mostly, Jim." With a slight smile, he held the other man close. It was perfect, really. If Kirk got mad at him, he could always say it was just to get him warm.

"I, personally, think eyebrow wrangler is a great use of Starfleet resources. I'm more than prepared to write a personal letter to the Federation requesting one for you." He smiled. If the admirals were smart (or had ever been on the opposite end of those 'judgemental eyebrows') they'd have to agree with him. Moving his hand from the older man's hair he poked gently at his eyebrow. "Hm... on second thought maybe I'll do it myself. I don't like the idea of some floosy in a short skirt poking at you. If you really feel like it's needed I guess I can always wear a short skirt... a wig too maybe. I've all ready got the floozy part down." He wouldn't really wear a skirt.

Letting out a soft noise of surprise he allowed Bones to pull him close. It was... oddly perfect. Letting out a content sigh he nuzzled gently against Bones' neck and closed his eyes. "I'm not a horrible liar. You just know me too well. We've been rooming together for three years, I've been bugging you since that stupid shuttle ride when all you did was bitch and moan and 'I may throw up on you' isn't the polite way to introduce yourself, you know? I'm an ill mannered brat but even I know that. It's a lousy pick up line too, you know." He just felt Bones needed that information in case he ever tried to use it. Not that he should... or that Jim would let him use it on someone else. "We need to work that into our wedding vows though." He teased.

Wrapping his arms around Bones, Kirk cracked an eye open and stared up at the older man. "You're all I have left of home now. Granted I kind of hated home to begin with but you're all I have left now. I guess I don't really mind that. I'd rather it be you than anyone else. At least with you here I feel... and I know I'm safe."

"If we ever get home, I'll worry about that." He shook his head slightly, but couldn't help but smile a tiny bit. It was impossible not to, with his young best friend being as absolutely adorable as he was. "Yeah, I guess you'd better do it yourself, then." He patiently endured the finger poking at his eyebrow. "But I'd better see a wig and dress on every time you do it." Not that he actually thought Kirk would, but the mental image amused him.

His hands rested against the younger man's shoulders as they lay together, and he knew that, really, this was a really bad idea. But he stayed right where he was, and even let his fingers slowly, but firmly, start massaging the young man's shoulders. "Yeah, well. I guess I've never been one for polite conversation." He paused. "Anyway, at least I didn't throw up on you. Be grateful for that much, at least." He blinked at the pick up line comment, and then coughed softly in surprise at the wedding vows comment. But Kirk, well, he joked around a lot. He figured it was just more of that. "Right. As soon as you agree to marry me, we'll figure out how to get that into our vows."

He took a deep breath, hoping that the young man would take that as a joke, and then moved on. "I know. I feel the same way." Which was about as close to a confessional comment as he ever came. "We should sleep. It's been a long day, at least for me."

"Just because you don't believe me gives me all the more reason to wear one of those skirts and possibly a wig." He huffed with a very Bones-like roll of his eyes. He hadn't actually planned on wearing a skirt or wig at all but with Bones being doubtful of his commitment to this position it seemed he had to take drastic measures. That was fine. He could deal with it. He'd wear a short red dress and high boots with a wig and he'd poke at Bones' eyebrows.

Closing his eyes, Kirk let out a soft content noise as Bones massaged his shoulders. He noticed the cough and simply smiled in response. He knew that one would get Bones. Popping an eye open he stared up at his friend, a soft smile on his lips. "Yeah? Well I'll start agreeing to it as soon as you propose. I can't very well walk up to you and simply say 'yes'. You won't know what the hell I'm talking about. Can't answer a question that has never been asked." Even if that did sound like the sort of thing he'd do. If he really thought about it he probably could simply walk up to Bones and say yes before informing the older man that he'd just agreed to marry him. Who cared whether Bones had asked or not? "James Tiberius McCoy. Captain McCoy. Jim McCoy. Captain Kirk-McCoy. Whatever I like the sound of it."

Letting out a soft sigh he nuzzled into the older man's neck and settled in. He wasn't moving for the rest of the night. This was exactly where he was going to sleep no matter how close they were or how uncomfortable it may have been for Bones. "Can I just move in here with you? I don't like being on my own." He'd do it if he were angry though.

The doctor shrugged, that same smile on his lips. "Uh huh. I'll believe it when I see it." Though, now that he thought about it, that was probably the worst thing he could say to his best friend. If anything could make him actually do it, it would be him pretty much daring him to. Pulling away slightly, he looked at his best friend and shrugged. Okay, so it would be a little weird to see him dressed as a girl, but if anyone could pull it off, it would be Kirk.

Well, this was getting to be a bit of a strange conversation, but, well, it was nice to simply be near Kirk again. He'd been so sure that he was alone among people he didn't know, and it was beyond being a relief to find the one person that he would have chosen to have with him, if he'd had a choice. So he went with it, at least somewhat. "Uh huh. And then you'd fall over dead when I actually did ask you to marry me." He touched the younger man's face gently, then let that hand drape easily over the younger man's hip.

He pulled the younger man closer against him, but didn't speak for a moment. His reaction to the request was interesting. He had to sort it out, try to see if Kirk was serious. Finally, he just shrugged. "Fine with me. Might as well, since I need to keep an eye on you anyway."

Oh so it was a challenge. All right, if Bones wanted it that way he got it. "Oh Bones, why must you doubt me so?" He probably should've went on to inform him that the challenge had been accepted and he'd show up in the medlab wearing a yeoman's skirt, boots, and a wig when McCoy least expected it and embarass him in front of Nurse Chapel but... there was no reason to be that nice. Bones would find out soon enough. If they didn't make it back home anytime soon he was pretty damn sure he could find a way to pull it off while they were here.

Moving just a bit as Bones' hand came to rest upon his hip Kirk simply sighed and shook his head. "You'll never know until you ask. And... if I do drop dead it's a good thing you're here, right? You can save me with your awesomely amazing doctor hands." He may have thrown that in there because he was incredibly aware of just where Bones' hand was upon his hip. He didn't mind it really. He liked that feeling. It was just hard not to notice it. "Anyway..." He murmured deciding to change the subject before he got some strange childish idea like 'if neither of us are in a serious relationship or married off to some alien priestess in five years...' It was just best not to dwell on any of that.

Unfortunately nothing more came after his grand attempt at redirection and he fell into silence... for a whole three minutes. "Just say yes. We both know you're going to. You may not want to or like to admit it but you know you want me here." Bones couldn't resist him. He hadn't been able to say no to Kirk yet. The doctor was wrapped around the young Captain's finger and he kind of knew that. It didn't mean he took advantage of it or used Bones in any way. He just knew that he could get away with almost anything (as long as Bones wasn't in that horrible doctor mode) with little more than a frown or a pout of his lips.

He didn't have to do either this time as Bones gave in without much objection. "Yay!" He cheered sleepily, hand moving from it's newfound home on Bones' chest in a half hearted cheer. "You can start keeping an eye on me and all my horrible conditions tomorrow. For now... sleep." He tilted his head up and very quickly, very briefly pressed his lips to the older man's chin before falling silent.
