When: Late afternoon, Day 12

Rating: Probably quite low!
Status: Incomplete

It was getting late, though it was hard to tell by anything other than his own internal system as dark as everything was. Apparently, the point of this new layout was to strike others with beams. It wouldn't hurt them, but you'd get points for it? Eragon was more than a bit confused by the game, and the world surrounding him. Why wasn't this place making any sense? He'd done so much studying and learning recently, but none of it matched what he was seeing in front of him.

He was reaching that place in his head that proved he was just barely seventeen. He was angry and worried and even a bit scared if he'd admit it. Closing his mind off from Saphira, he wandered off on his own. Though he'd have plenty to answer for later, he needed the time to himself. That and she seemed perfectly content to chase the small goblin creatures where he was...less than content.

He found himself standing at the edge of the large maze, which was apparently untouched by the developments around it. That, in a way, was comforting. Things that didn't change all the time made him feel a little more at ease. Even if it was apparently laced with dangerous creatures and happenings.

Carefully, he reached out a hand, brushing the edges of the entrance. What, exactly, lay on the other side? And was it something he and Saphira could tackle? There seemed to be a belief that, on making it through the obstacle, one could be sent home. They could finish the war, then. For better or for worse. It was something to consider.

It had taken the young prince of Mirkwood a couple of minutes to figure out what had happened. He was an accomplished marksman, but that was with his bow. The idea of a gun was absolutely foreign to him. It had been utterly incomprehensible to him to see people running around, shooting beams of light at each other. At first, he was very concerned, but no one was being hurt.

Soon enough, the elf, light-hearted again, after his conversation with Giselle, was running around shooting beams of light of his own. He was tireless, and his aim was just as good with the gun as it was with his bow. In a short time, the resiliant elf had shrugged off most of the lingering effects of the vampire woman's attack, and was well on his way to recovery. Of course, he would always remember, but nothing could really keep him down for very long.

After awhile, though, he was bored. Shooting these guns was too easy. There was no pull of the string, no satisfying thrumming noise as the bow was released. It was just too simple for there to be any challenge. So he gave his laser gun back to a goblin and made his way off the field, which meant he was at the entrance to the Labyrinth. Everywhere else was considered the playing field, but here, no one came, and he was safe enough.

Not alone, however. His blue gaze fell on someone else, someone exploring the edges of the Labyrinth. The elf grinned, and, being a friendly being, approached. "Greetings, friend!" His voice was cheerful as he called out. "Be on your guard, for if you enter the Labyrinth, you may not leave until it is finished." He had been through once, and knew a thing or two about it.

The warning registered in Eragon's head before the greeting did, and he took a hesitant step backward. Not that he'd been all that close to actually entering the maze, but just the same. Who knew how this thing worked? What if he were to be sucked in somehow? Or snatched by one of the creatures that apparently roamed it? No, better to be safe until he was sure he wanted to venture in. And there was no way he was going without Saphira.

Slowly, he turned to face the new arrival, his hand instinctively resting on the hilt of his sword. Though the greeting had sounded kind enough, he wasn't willing to take his chances on meeting any strangers. Just in case. "Hello," he offered, studying the new arrival. Long silken blonde hair and... Were those tipped ears? Could this be the elfhe'd conversed with previously? "I take it you made it through the labyrinth alright, then?" Eragon asked pleasantly, his hand dropping much more casually to his side. Though one couldn't trust someone simply because of their race, he felt more comfortable in knowing that this man was an elf, and they were typically a peaceful species unless otherwise challenged.

Legolas, at peace with all creatures of the woodland, including faeries, held out a hand and whispered a greeting in elven. One of the pretty little creatures, usually so inclined to bite, instead floated gracefully over and landed on his outstretched hand. He spoke to it gently, and it stayed there quite happily on his hand as he turned his attention back to the other person sharing the dubious santuary from the laser guns.

"Greetings!" He spoke again, cheerful enough, though he had already greeted him. "Hail and well met. I am called Legolas of Mirkwood, son of the Elven-King." He bowed his head, then raised it, blue eyes sparkling with delight at meeting a new person. He always found such occasions amusing. This man seemed friendly enough, which was always a delight to him.

"Do I know you, then? Have we spoke previously?" He looked him over, but he didn't look familiar. "Yes, I was successful, with the help of those I travelled with. Have you considered braving this challenge?" He reached out with his free hand and rested it against the stone of the Labyrinth.

Eragon knew instinctively that Legolas' culture was different from his own. He didn't, however, forego the traditional greeting of twisting his hand in front of his chest and bowing his head. "My name is Eragon Sha--Bromsson," he changed at the last moment. As proud as he was of the title of Shadeslayer, he was more proud of finally having a father's name to lay claim to.

"We haven't met before, though we have spoken. Through the magical journals." Granted Eragon hadn't exactly found any specific spells running through the book. But it obviously had something special to it. "I'm...part elf. Sort of. It's an extremely long story, suffice to say. But we did discuss it, though you were already on your journey through the maze."

Carefully, Eragon studied the entrance once again. It was doable. But the elegant looking elf in front of him, a prince he'd said, was still there, in the city. Meaning he hadn't returned to wherever he'd come from. "I'm not sure yet," Eragon admitted. "Saphira... We could probably manage it together." A finger delicately traced Brisingr's hilt, knowing that with his magic, her power, and his sword skill, he'd be able to manage with little trouble. Perhaps. "I'm still considering it. What sorts of things did you face?"

Legolas watched the greeting carefully, then laughed merrily, pleased by it. "Your ways are strange, and yet, I find them beautiful." He tried to mimic the greeting in his own way "My name is Legolas Greenleaf." He did the bow, then laughed once more. It wasn't mocking, just delighted by meeting someone new, a new way of doing things, and the whole situation.

His eyes shone as he realized who this must be, and he nodded eagerly. "I remember you! I am pleased that we have met in person." He smiled and held out his hand, looking curiously at him to find signs of elf in him. But if he was in any part elf, that made him interesting to Legolas. So he offered hand in friendship.

He nodded, though, at Eragon's words. "It is a serious challenge indeed. Many monsters and trials my companions and I faced on our journey through. Vampires, orcs, and some things that I have no name for. I think it would be best not to do it alone."

"It's obvious, though our species are similar, we have very different traditions," Eragon agreed, his smile widening. He rather enjoyed the idea of learning a new culture from this new friend. Oromis would be pleased with him for embracing the ways of another. "But that just makes it that much more of a pleasure to meet you, Legolas." Mirkwood he hadn't heard of, but Greenleaf was a pleasant sounding and understandable name.

"Orcs?" he asked curiously. This land grew more and more strange. "I'd never heard of vampires till I arrived here. They seem to be quite common, though." He was learning more every day, but he still felt he'd never grasp the entirety of this new world. How could he? Every day something new arrived.

And yet, if he believed in anything, it was in Saphira and his ability to do most anything with her support. "We could manage," he considered out loud, but more to himself than to Legolas. "There aren't too many species that can get by Saphira." Still, it was a somewhat intimidating thought. "Did it take you long, then? To finish the journey?"

"Yes! I am delighted by this." He spoke frankly, not really having the patience for anything else. More than once, it had gotten him into trouble with others, mostly those of other races, but it was who he was and he'd make no apology for that. "I would like to speak with you further, to hear what I can learn from the elves of your world."

The elf nodded complacently. "Yes, orcs. Foul creatures of the dark, made in the first age of the world as a mockery of elves." He held up his bow, which he carried, as always. "Though they soon face their deaths at the wrong end of an arrow when they come near me, or any of my kin." He made a face. "Vampires are more challenging. But they seem to dislike the light of the sun, so it is easy enough to avoid them."

"Saphira?" He tilted his head to the side, obviously curious. "Do you have a friend in this land? I am pleased for you if I do." He often missed his friends. "It did not take long, a mere couple of days." To him, that was like the blink of an eye. "I had many companions, strong, capable. You should do likewise, if you wish to conquer the challenge."
