Well, this was different.

Eragon was growing used to things being strange around him. One could almost say he was settling in if it weren't for his fears about the war back home. Juniper's warnings about the state of things in Alagaesia made him ache to get back there and finish it once and for all. And instead, he was stuck in a land where one day it was snowing and the next it was raining and the next it was sunny. Which spoke nothing for the fact that there seemed to be a carnival that morphed into a children's game which became...well, he wasn't entirely sure what this place was supposed to be.

He couldn't deny it looked fun, though. If only he knew what it meant. There was certainly nothing like it back home. Placing a hand on Saphira's shoulder, he looked up at her sheepishly. Just something else we don't know, he told her, sighing. Just once I wish this place resembled home.

The great blue dragon lowered her head to touch his shoulder with her nose. I know, Little One, she reassured. Think of this as a new adventure. Just something else on our journey.

Though he rolled his eyes, Eragon was grateful. As true as that is, I'd rather be on our original adventure.

They were waiting outside the dorms, enjoying the stares they occasionally received. It seemed as many different places as people were from, they were still a unique sight for many. Well, Eragon wasn't. Other than his high cheekbones and slightly tipped ears, he resembled most anyone else. But it appeared not many worlds had a dragon wandering around. Which is why the man from the journals was so excited. And Eragon was proud of the creature at his side. Not only for her accomplishments or for even just being a dragon, but because of the incredibly intense bond they shared. So he certainly didn't mind people admiring her, and she was willing to meet the man with the ships that traveled in space.

To say Wash was giddy like a school girl was the biggest understatement of the year. Wash was as giddy as a school girl who was about to be asked out by their long time crush. A dragon was absolutely the most shiny development he could have asked for. He felt almost guilty for finding something to enjoy while he was being held prisoner here, it was unfair really. You were supposed to hate being in jail or kidnapped. Nothing about this was bad, hell, he had even been giving presents!

Wash didn't have to worry about finding Eragon or his amazing dragon Saphira. Eager to met them, ask a million and one questions, and probably answer what he could about space ships and space travel. He was glad to find an interesting way to pass to pass the time.

His mouth was already hanging open as he walked up towards the pair. With eyes wide as saucers he absent mindedly rubbed his fingers into his messy hair to 'fix' it into place. As if he was slicking himself up for a fancy and well to do woman. "Run-tse duh fwotzoo..." he muttered to himself as his eyes continued to roll upwards. Saphira seemed to tower upwards forever and the blue color of her body was stunning.

Wash was for a lack of better words, awestruck.

Saphira noticed the newcomer before Eragon did. He heard the rumble in her stomach which passed as her quiet laughter and he glanced up. "Oh, good morning!" he offered, only remembering at the last moment that he wasn't at home and this man was clearly not an elf and he wasn't required to give a traditional elvish greeting.

Instead, he stepped forward and gave a smile, as amused as Saphira but less obvious about it at the man's dumbfounded expression. "You must be the man we met on the journals." It was natural for him to say 'we' by then, even if Saphira didn't exactly hold the writing instrument and write herself. She was simply a part of him and he knew, from all of his training and from his many talks with her, that she would be until one of them died and even beyond that. He just hoped it was later rather than sooner.

"I'm Eragon," he introduced himself, as he didn't remember having done so before. "And this," he added proudly, waving a hand back in the dragon's direction, "is Saphira."

Should I give him a show, do you think? she questioned, and he could hear the playful mirth in her voice. Eragon had to fight not to roll his eyes, as he knew this man had no idea what they were discussing. Just don't scare him, alright?

But instead of breathing fire or giving a great roar, the large beast dropped her front legs, giving her version of a bow. Tell him it's a pleasure to meet him.

That time, he did roll his eyes, though the gesture was playful. "She says it's a pleasure to meet you."

Wash was beyond freaking out. He was freaking out. Saphira had to be almost as nice of a name as Serenity. Thinking about the big hunk of metal made Wash miss the ship even more than before. He smiled broadly and the found himself more shocked as the creature dropped forward in what he assumed was a dragon bow.

"It sure is!" he practically squeaked. "If you don't mind me sayin' ...," and Wash paused wondering just exactly how a Dragon might take offense he settled on a very back water compliment. "You sure are shiny."

He then decided he probably looked like a down right fool, but it was hard not to with a great big Dragon sitting in front of you.

A rumbling noise erupted from the depths of Saphira's belly as the great creature gave a deep laugh. He's a bit like a child on a holiday, isn't he? she remarked, and Eragon smiled. Be polite, you know you're not a normal sight for people even back home, but especially here.

Saphira sighed, but gave a step forward and lowered her head to the ground in front of the man. He seemed kind enough, and he had a friendly air to him. Besides, one thing that appealed to Saphira was flattery, and this stranger had plenty of that. I'm thinking shiny is a compliment, she told Eragon. Like my coloring, perhaps?

"She'd like to know what, exactly, that means," Eragon supplied out loud, resting a hand on Saphira's shoulder. "Do you mean as in her scales? Are there many of these shiny objects where you come from?" It wasn't an impertinent question, really, Eragon was naturally curious and he knew Saphira was, too.

"Shiny?" Wash still wasn't quite used to other folks being unfamiliar with the slang terms he used. Back home it was normal, about as normal as breaking into chinese when the shit was hitting the fan. After another second, it clicked and he threw up his arms in realization.

"Oh! That's a compliment. Shiny is what you call something beautiful or amazing." He explained, that wide smile never leaving his face. "Which she is, and her scales," he added. By this point however, Wash felt like his rambling and wished Zoe was here to shut him up. She always knew when to stop him.

The expression on Saphira's face would've indicated a smile to anyone, not just the young man at her side who knew her better than anyone. Casually, Eragon leaned against the blue beast's leg, smiling widely. "She really is. Beautiful and amazing."

Little One, you do not need to flatter me so! This man's doing enough for the both of you. Her voice was teasing on the edges of his consciousness and he grinned over at Wash. "You're giving her a big head, I'm afraid," he said with a laugh. "She's become a common sight with those we fight with back home and they've quit admiring her so openly. I'm afraid she enjoys the attention."

A loud 'huff' blew the hair at the top of his head around and he grinned up at her. You make me sound vain, and conceited, too, Saphira complained. When I am neither, I'll have you know. And yet, there was still a smile in her voice. Have him come closer, if he wants. I won't bite.

"You can touch her, if you'd like," Eragon extended her offer. "She can breathe fire and all, but she doesn't unless in battle. Oh, or if she's cooking."

Wash seemed rather afraid to even move, but not out of fear ... he was still rather shell shocked. He took a moment, gave his cheek a bit of a slap. More to snap himself out of his stupor and moved forward. He let a hand timidly brush against Saphira's leg as he cast his eyes upwards.

He muttered something in chinese again under his breath, before he started to beam again. "She deserves it, I haven't seen anything as beautiful as her since I laid eyes on Serenity. That's my ship ... well, it's the Captain's ship. I just fly her, but she wouldn't fly true if it weren't for me and Kaylee."

Wash didn't realize he had started to babble again, but get him talking about Serenity and Space travel and it was hard to get him to stop.
