"Pooka, get back here!" Anya scolded, hurrying as quietly as she could after the dog. Dimitri and Vlad were discussing how far she'd come in her 'Anastasia Lessons', and she really hadn't wanted to hear it. The thought of pretending to be someone's granddaughter made her a little sick, to be honest. But apparently exploring the woods of Germany on her own wasn't recommended, either. Mostly because she had a mischievous little gray mutt with her. As alike as the two of them were, Pooka was bound to get her in trouble sooner or later.

Sighing, she ducked under a tree branch, still tailing the little dog. "Dimitri's going to skin us both if you make me late," she babbled out loud, knowing the dog couldn't understand her. If he could even hear her. "They'll think I've gone off and left them and then how am I supposed to get to Paris, hmm? Walk there? That'll be attractive, I'm sure!"

She was so lost in her monologue that she hadn't noticed the shimmering light the dog had gone through. From a distance, it had merely looked like a sunshine-filled break in the trees. But as she passed through it, Anya immediately knew there was something different. More colors. More room. And... And the smell of sweets?

Eyes darting up, Anya gasped. It was honestly like nothing she'd ever seen before, not even in her daydreams. The trees weren't the ones she'd just been in. They couldn't be. They were brown, yes, but... "Chocolate?" she yelped. Bushes made of peppermint twists? This was completely insane. Maybe she really had finally snapped and gone mad.

Apparently even the little dog beside her had been caught by surprise, because Pooka stopped his mad dash run and stared in awe. Before he could go getting into something else, she scooped him up, looking around a bit more. Though she'd never played, she'd swear she was standing next to a giant chess board. Larger-then-life pieces with that queen piece and the knight and the little one with the round top whose name she couldn't remember all stood displayed proudly on the black and white squares.

This? Was so not normal. And the light she'd passed through to get there was gone. There wasn't any sign of the trees she'd just passed. "Oh... Ooooh, no, this is so not happening. Not here, not now, why?"

Brennan was sitting in a chair in Booth's hospital room, waiting for him to wake up. He'd been in the coma for four days now as a bad reaction to the anesthesia they'd used during his brain surgery. Her fingers clacked against the laptop as she typed words into a document. The sentences were unlike what she usually wrote in her novels as they pertained to she and Booth's relationship. She re-read it and then selecting it all, she hit the delete button. She sighed softly and looked up at Booth. As she watched he began to move, rolling his head from side to side and struggling to open his eyes.

Temperance Brennan put aside her laptop and went to her partner's side. She reached out to grasp his hand. He was mumbling about some dream that had been so real. She began to explain that he had been in a coma for four days but that the surgery had been a success. He stared at her while she explained and then when she finished she couldn't believe the words he spoke. "Who are you?" "What?" She stared at him, not sure if he was still groggy from the the anesthesia, or what, but she couldn't believe that the man who had been her partner for four years wouldn't recognize her.

She straightened slightly only to find that she was no longer clutching Booth's hand. Her hand was empty and when she looked down at the bed, it wasn't there either. The hospital room was gone and had been replaced with a wooded area that smelled sweet. She stood stock still gazing around at the strange environment. She wondered if the shock of Booth's question had caused her to faint, but she disregarded that as ridiculous. Then she heard feet snapping candy twigs and crushing sweet leaves. She peered around a tree and saw a young woman holding a little dog.

"Excuse me?" Brennan approached the woman, trying her best to step around the sticky candy foliage that littered the ground. "Excuse me. Do... do you know where we are?" She still wore the skirt suit she'd been wearing at the hospital, but other than her shoes and clothes she didn't have anything else with her. Her purse and laptop were still sitting by the chair in Booth's hospital room. She tucked a strand of her brown hair behind her ear and glanced around again before focusing on the one in front of her.
