Day One - In the Beginning
Who: Jareth and everyone!
When: Day One, early morning
What: The King addresses his court
Where: City of Illusions, town center
Rating: Anywhere from G to R, I suppose
Status: Complete

In the beginning, everything was nothing. There was a void, black and endless. In one split second, that changed. Where there had been nothing but blackness, the vaguest shape of something began to take form. At first, it was impossible to tell what, since there was still very dark. Slowly, an area of the void began to lighten, and something could be seen to move through the dim light. Before there was more than light and dark, he was there shaping the world.

The King of the Goblins and former Ruler of the Underground looked around at what he had done, little though it appeared to be. He laughed, and it was the first sound ever heard in that place. The light continued to build, and he liked that and encouraged it. For many seconds, almost a full minute, he was very busy. He could feel others coming from the strange Planet that he had escaped. He must be ready... buildings sprung into existance, and grass, and a forest around the edge of the town. He was very guided by the place he'd been before, but also by the first Underground that had been destroyed.

Things were still shiny and new, almost not quite formed, when the first of them arrived. He supposed he'd dragged them along with him when he'd done battle with the Planet, but he wasn't worried. They wouldn't know what was going on. In the blink of an eye, they were there. Cathal, Gabrielle, Faith Lehane, Mercy Thompson, Giselle, Severus Snape, they all popped into being. The surge of energy this brought was incredible, and the lines of the city he had created, which had been hazy and indistinct, firmed into a more solid state.

Jareth searched, then, through all of the worlds that he could reach into with all his millenia of practice. Before a full ten seconds had passed since the arrival of the first ones, those from Mirage, more were brought to stand beside them. Cimorene, Helena Campbell, Hermione Granger, Jack Harkness, Jack Sparrow, Robin of Locksley, Rose Tyler, Schuldig, Steerpike, The Doctor, Willow Rosenberg and Yaten Kou. There was no rhyme or reason to his selections. He simply grabbed those who interested him and took them.

Before long at all, in fact, before even five minutes had passed since he had first walked the void, he had a decent sized group. He would bring more, but later. For now, he had a doubtless very confused court to attend to, and it wouldn't do to keep them waiting. With a gesture, he stood in the very center of the group so they tended to form a circle around him. With a slight twist of his mind, he made himself appear to sparkle, to seem taller than he was, to get their attention.

"Welcome to the Underground." His voice rang out clear and strong through the clearing in the center of the town. "I am the King of this place, and I've brought you here. Some of you will be familiar with this process, as it has been done once before. For some, this is the first time. You will be glad to know it will also be the last." Through some trick of his illusions, he appeared to be looking at each and every one of them, though of course, that should not be possible as they were all arrayed in a circle around him.

"This is your home now. You will not be leaving." He snapped, and in front of each person hung floating in the air two things, a key with a number clearly inscribed on it, and a book. "This is what I shall give you. A journal, which I shall leave to you to figure out, and a key, which is to the room you have been assigned." As he spoke, an orange/red sort of light began to fill the sky to the east. Soon, the sun broke from the horizon and began to rise, casting light on what had largely been in shadow before.

The buildings, each and every one of them, were hung about in gauzy fabrics of all colors. Tents and pavilions were in abundance throughout the area, and from somewhere not so far off, a horse could be heard to snort to itself. It was the City of Illusions in it's Ren Faire guise, which Jareth had seen while on Earth and which had struck his fancy. "This is your home." He repeated. "I have made this city for you to live in. There are only a few simple rules. You may not attempt to kill each other. You may not leave. You may not attempt to go into another's room uninvited. It's quite simple, really."

Jareth didn't pause, didn't give anyone a chance to speak, or even really think through what he had been saying. "For those of you that would not be satisfied with simply existing here in this city, there is a choice. Brave my labyrinth." He gestured toward a wall, high and thick and imposing. A large gate, easily wide enough to drive two buses through, hung open. "If you solve the labyrinth and get to my castle at the center of the structure, you will be rewarded." He paused for just a moment. "Perhaps even with your freedom." He didn't specify further than that.

"That is all. If you have any questions, any of my servants will assist you." He snapped once more, and a short, funny looking goblin scuried up. "Of course, you are welcome to ask me in person... but only if you solve my labyrinth first." As the last words came from his mouth, he was already fading from sight. Seconds later, he was completely gone, leaving those he had brought in a strange sunrise in a completely new world. The goblin, however, remained, looking at the group impassively.

Hermione backed off a bit more with a confused look on her face at Willow’s words yes indeed she was sure that she was in fact Hermione Granger but what was this talk about a Harry Potter book? “Yes I’m Hermione…you know Harry? And what’s this about a book?” she grew more confused by the minuet and how did the muggle know that she was a witch, Hermione felt their was something different about this Willow just the fact she knew things about her made her wonder really what everyone else knew?

She took a few more steps away from Willow and drew out her wand and the key she just got from her pocket then pointed her want at the key and said “Wingardium Leviosa” watching the key float into the air between the two then the shouted “Avifors!” then the key turn into a small yellow bird she watched as it flew over and land on Willow’s shoulder. Hermione could not help from laughing at Willow’s reaction to this, struggling to keep her sentence coherent she managed to say “Ok I proved to you I’m Hermione now please tell me how you know who I am and that I’m a witch”

Willow stood back in amusement as she watched the young witch do her thing, even more amused that it looked like something out of a movie but the girl had the passion she rightly should in her craft. This girl had been the whole reason she picked up the books in the first place. Once the bird was on her shoulder she made a little clap. "Well done." She took the bird from her shoulder then into her hands, she simply waved her hand over the bird causing a swirling stream of light over it and it turned into two more birds and flew away. "Because my dear, Harry Potter is a book series and you are one of the main characters. I read the book because of you. And as you can see I'm a witch as well."

“Thanks” Hermione stayed silent for a moment surprised by the words Willow spoke watching the birds fly away, she never met a witch that could successfully pull of the muggle look their was always something to wild about their choice in outfit but Willow looked like a perfectly normal muggle to her. “So you’re saying I’m a character from a book?..could you show me this book?” she hoped by asking this she never gave Willow the impression that she though she was crazy which was not the case, in this world I guess anything was possible so maybe their was a book that existed somewhere that had a story and Harry and his adventures at Hogwarts which actually would make a good book in Hermione’s thoughts

“You’re a witch too may I ask how you find doing magic without a wand?” she was fascinated by this act, she never seen someone do it but have heard tales about people who could and wondered if this witch could teach her how to. “Is it hard perhaps maybe you could teach me?” she smiled at the thought of learning magic even when she was not at Hogwarts.

"Well I don't have it on me but maybe this place will have a copy when we figure out where our rooms are right? Maybe even conjure up a way to get home?" She made a small face she missed her friends a lot and they would be worried about her as she was a valuable part of the Scoobies. Willow snapped her finger at one of the birds and it changed back into Hermione's key falling gracefully at the young girl's her feet. Willow picked it up and looked at it. "Oh your room is close to mine come we could take a look at the rooms together if you like?" She smiled warmly. "Two witches are always better then one." The red head grinned.

Willow took her own key and book then walked towards the dorms with the younger Witch by her side."You know I never really thought about it, it just happened one day when I was sitting in class bored and my pencil started floating. After that I just taught myself tapping into my own inner power, it's easy. Well I guess it wouldn't hurt to try, I mean you are already down with the witchy, having gone to school and all for so many years, and you're smart like me and into books too!"

It was hard for Willow not to fangirl over Hermione she loved the series it was strange standing next to one of the main characters but it was funny as well. "You see Wicca is different from what you learn, go more on listening to our inner selves for guidance, the goddesses, as well as the elements it's a more spiritual side of things then just learning from texts and teachers it's in the doingness of it all. I've never taught anyone before well well except..." Willow grew quite she hadn't talked about the lover that was stolen from her in quite some time, she thought about Tara though constantly but she kept the wordyness to herself. "I think that's our dorm a head." She pointed to the rock staircase in front of them.

Hermione thought that a way home would be nice too, her friends needed her now, she hoped that they where all ok. “Yeah I hope so I would like to read it and yes a way home would be nice my friends need my help…I hope everyone is ok” thinking about what was going on back home and knowing that she could not help was just now getting to Hermione but she knew it was not her fault that she ended up here so as long as everyone was ok in the end she never cared about missing the fights.

She watched as Willow turned the bird back into her key and took it in her hand, when Willow told her that her room was close to hers she was happy that her new friend was not too far away if she ever needed her. “That’s nice sure lets go, I wonder what our rooms are like?” Hermione started to walk with Willow side by side listening to her story about finding her powers it was kind of like her own “Really I found out one day when I made the cookie jar float down from the top shelf, mom must of thought I was mad when I told her how I got it but believed me after I got excepted into Hogwarts and now she’s proud to have a witch in the family” she laughed at the memory and also with Willow’s story it became more clear that maybe this book she was apparently was in really existed when Willow rattled off things about her that she never seen or told her yet.

She listened very intently as Willow explained Wicca to her, she worried that she would not get it with out the aid of textbooks but she would give it her best shot and have to trust Willow as her new teacher. Noticing hurt as Willow just stopped mid sentence and never got back to who was her only student she thought it only right not to ask. “Yeah I see it lets go…so you learned all you magic by yourself, wow I would have never been able to do that without a book or someone’s help”.

“Well lets go see what the rooms are like, I’ll see you when your done looking around yours” she said finally walking up to the door with the number 116 on it and went to open the door but it was locked, too lazy to get her key she pointed her want at the door and said “Alohomora” turning the nob that was now magically unlocked and opening the door she remembered that she never had her key anyway so she turned back to Willow just after she opened hers “Oh yeah can I please have my key back” received her key and turned back to walk into her room with a “Thanks see you later”
