Who: Simon and River
What: Tam siblings reunion
When: Day seven, morning
Where: Their dormitory
Ranting: Don't expect it to be higher than PG

After a fruitless search through the faire, Simon went to his assigned room. It was considerate, he supposed, that people were provided with rooms. At this point, he was so exhausted that as long as he could be sure the Alliance wouldn't find him, he'd stay just about anywhere.

His heart all but stopped upon entering the room, because there, curled up in one of the beds, was his sister. Simon thought of waking her to ask how she was, but she was sleeping so peacefully that he couldn't. She sometimes had terrible nightmares. He checked as much as he could without disturbing her, then, rather than climbing into his own bead, he pulled up a chair by River's bed and reached for one of her hands. The exhaustion took over him before he had time to even think about how achy he might be come morning.

"We can fix the room," Simon reassured her. "Don't worry. We can make it look better than it used to." Granted, he didn't know what it used to look like, but he could assume. It was fairly basic as far as rooms went, bigger than their rooms on Serenity, but that made sense, being that this was meant for two occupants.

He smiled slightly when she remarked on his state. No, he wasn't hurt. Maybe a little bit achy, not having been in a terribly comfortable position all night, but that would fix itself in time. Besides, there were more important things to worry about, like the matter of how long River had been here. How had he not noticed on the ship? It seemed as though they'd both been pulled at the same time but landed on different days. It made no sense.

"Have you been alone all this time? Here?" He shook his head. "I would have come sooner if I'd known. I just... This doesn't make very much sense." Captain Jack's explanation only answered so many questions, after all.

River nodded and smiled at Simon, "More like home." she tilted her head a bit trying to imagine what they could do to the room.

"Not completely." she looked down at her hands, "Lost at first. Never wander in the light." she shook her head not wanting to remember the long day of hiding. "Then he came." she smiled and looked back up at Simon, "Jacob Black. He found me and let me dance." it had felt nice to dance like she had with Jacob. Though the awkward boy may not have been the best dance partner it was a nice distraction from everything that was happening at the moment he found her.

"What is Captain Jack like?" she said catching the name in his head.

Dancing, good, she'd been dancing. That always seemed to make her happy, so it comforted Simon to know she hadn't been cowering for the whole time he hadn't been with her. He would get over the guilt of that eventually, he knew, but for now, he took what comforts he could. He'd have to have this Jacob Black, then.

River's mind-reading would one day stop catching him off guard, but until then, Simon would have to take a moment to remember it and not ask how she knew that. Still, he had to think back on the encounter to properly answer, and that took a second. "He kind of reminds me of Mal, what with how he seems to take things in stride. Only he's much less... brusque, I suppose, on a first meeting."

River nodded, "Mal..." the familiar name caught in her as she thought about how they had gone missing. "Do you think he cares we're gone?" she asked concerned about what would happen. She thought it'd be obvious to know that they were gone seeing how Simon isn't around to argue with the Captain and she wasn't around to annoy him or Jayne. But she wondered if he would care or brush it off as less baggage now...

Simon wanted to say that Mal did care, because... well, if he hadn't, he would've left them behind months ago. He'd certainly had enough opportunities. If nothing else, Simon and River's talents had proven useful enough to merit keeping them on board. But Simon still wanted to believe there was more to it than that, and that alone made a part of him think it was true.

"Of course he does," he told River, cracking half a smile and giving a small laugh. "Someone's bound to have gotten hurt by now, and he's got to miss making up things to complain about you to me for."

River smiled back at Simon. He was right, she was foolish to think that they would just go on and become forgotten. She knew she wasn't exactly the best passenger on board the ship but she still didn't want to be left behind. That was her biggest problem when first ending up at the Labyrinth. She was worried she was taken away again with no hope of going back. But now that Simon was here she felt better.

"Probably." she nodded and then laughed a bit when she remembered what had happened the last time they were taken away. "'Decent wound finally and I miss out.'" she quoted him.

Chuckling, Simon nodded. He was sure he hadn't said that when his sister was around, but then, she was an excellent hider, always won hide and seek when they were little.

"Come on," he said suddenly, standing and rolling his neck. It ached a little more than before now that he tried moving it more, but at least it was bearable. Then again, after having been shot, a lot of things were bearable. He held out a hand to River, inviting her to stand. "Let's tidy up this room and see what's in the city."
