WHO: Snape and Faith
WHAT: A day at the amusement park
WHEN: Day 7
WHERE: The rides
STATUS: Incomplete
RATING: PG-13?

Snape looked out his window, rolled his eyes at the sight of great, noisy, muggle machineries, and turned back to his workbench. The skele-gro potion he was busy concocting was at a crucial juncture. In a couple of minutes, the two-hour boiling would be done; Snape would have to add just the right amount of powdered lizard bone, then take the cauldron off the heat.

As he watched the potion burble away, he shook his head at the realization that his place was going to be changing its appearance every now and then, just like Mirage had. Why was he surprised? He only hoped more of the settings would be more like the last one and less like this new one. What in Merlin's name had even been going on out there? Over the flashing lights and various whirs and clanks, the dominant sound had been one of people screaming? Surely it was too festive an environment to be a torture zone? Whatever it was, Snape did not intend to find out. He had spent the last few days stocking his pantry well. That lizard bone had not been easy to procure.

As the allotted boiling time came to an end, Snape removed the cauldron from its hook over the fire, and reached for the jar of powdered bone. Only once he had poured the remaining powder into his measuring spoon did he realize that he had used the last of it. The wizard closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He had three other batches on the go. He was going to need more bone. Today. He was going to have to go out into that maelstrom of muggle nonsense. This was not turning into a good day.

Grabbing his black cloak, Snape strode angrily from his chambers.

Snape observed the slightly-increased care with which Faith secured herself in the coaster car, and wasn't sure whether to feel impressed that she had done something with a bit of propriety for once or frightened that this ride should intimidate her into sober submission to its safety requirements. In truth he felt a bit of both and was quickly distracted by her not-quite-revealing comments. He already knew she lived a life of danger, but what was her connection with curses? Was it worth it to push her on it? It would hardly be polite...

"I'm sorry. Are you saying you are also familiar with devising and casting curses, or that you have yourself been cursed or are, in fact, cursed at this moment. Because I am much practiced in the removal of magical impediments, and if you are cursed, I could help you become free."

The wizard found himself forgetting about his potions as he dangled the invitation to a subsequent meeting with this exasperatingly intriguing young woman in front of her. He had to admit, as the train began its long, slow climb to the top of the highest hill, that removing a curse from her sounded more fun than this roller coaster business.

Faith glanced over at Snape as the roller coaster moved slowly to the top of the largest hill. "Shit, man, what the fuck did I just say? I don't wanna talk about it." There was a moment of silence as the car hung on the very top of the structure, about to plummet over, but not quite gone over the edge yet.

In that instant, Faith, despite her earlier words, began to talk. "No, I can't do your mojo thing, but I'm cursed. Shit, there's nothing you can do about it, except kill me." She spoke softly, looking away, refusing to meet his eyes. "Sometimes I wish someone..."

But then, whatever she was going to say was cut off by a delighted shriek as the cart went over the edge, and hurtling down the steep hill. Being who she was, she flung her hands high into the air, let gravity jerk her around as much as it wanted to. Never once, in the course of the entire ride, did she let her hands grab onto anything, and as always on a rollercoaster, she felt delightfully out of control, like she was going to fly from the seat any second.

Snape was not surprised at first by Faith's repeated insistence that he not probe her secrets. He had expected just such a reaction after she had made her boundaries clear the first time. Nevertheless, this new Faith had never liked him much, so he felt there wasn't much for him to lose by persisting.

He was surprised, however, by the subsequent confession she offered. His rapt attention was shockingly broken as the train began its frighteningly rapid descent. What had she been about to say? That she wanted someone to kill her? But surely there was a real possibility he could help her. That was as far as he got, however, before the chaos and terror of the coaster ride destroyed his ability to form coherent thoughts.

Never had he endured so disturbing a journey. To be flung about by the mechanical contraption with no way to predict where he would end up or which way he would be jerked next. It was worse than the carts in the vaults at Gringotts. He would take floo powder and portkeys over this mode of transport any day. Why on Earth would anyone do this for fun. Muggles truly must be mad.

The momentary weakness was over, so far as she was concerned. She was relieved, really, that she'd been interupted before she'd gone any further with it. As far as she was concerned, this was over. So she just threw herself into the ride, and by the end, she felt much better about everything.

At the end of the ride, she turned to Snape and arched an eyebrow at him. "Fun, right, Skeletor?" The previous conversation was completely pushed aside, as Faith had less than no interest in continuing with what had been nothing more than a momentary weakness.

"I wanna go again." Her dark eyes were sparkling, her skin was slightly flushed, and she was almost bouncing in her seat. "Can we?" The look she gave him was really almost imploring.

Snape slowly released the white-knuckled grip he had on the coaster car's rim, and turned to face the bouncing young woman next to him. Fighting to keep his deep reluctance to ever undergo that experience again from his face (and succeeding fairly well, from years of practice), Snape struggled to find the best answer to Faith's question. As much as he did not want to ride the coaster once more, he had to admit, at least to himself, that he found Faith's eagerness almost irresistable. More than that, he found the way it tickled his memories somewhat arousing, but he wasn't sure if he was ready to admit that to himself.

"Yes. We can."

Snape took a deep breath and sat back in the seat. One more time, and that was it. At least this time he would know what to expect.

The pretty brunette looked at him in disbelief. She had fully expected him to say no to that, once it became obvious he was seriously freaked out. But he was willing to go again. In a rare moment of compassion, she shook her head and shrugged. "Nah, it's cool. It's totally boring the second time, anyhow."

She crawled out of the car, and then turned to Snape. Now was the time when it could get awkward, considering what she'd said. She bit her lower lip and looked at him seeming almost vulnerable.

"Hey, look, about that stuff I said, I was just fucking around, alright?" She punched him lightly, well, lightly for her, anyway, on the shoulder. "You're alright, Skeletor. I gotta jet, later."
