Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:buffy summers, caspian, complete, day seven, giselle, hermione granger, legolas greenleaf

WHO: Caspian, Giselle, Legolas, Buffy, and Hermoine
WHAT: Going through the Labyrinth
WHEN: Day Seven, Dawn
WHERE: The Labyrinth
RATING: Given that Buffy's going, could be R
STATUS: Complete
NOTES: I'll adjust the posting order as people tag in

Caspian had never thought himself much of a leader. He didn't have the self-confidence, he believed, to take up the position and be effective. But, time and again, he was put in the position of authority, and time and again, he rose to the challenge, his yearning to do what was right outweighing his trepidations about his capability.

And so when it fell to him to lead this ragamuffin group through the labyrinth, he prepared for the journey as best as he could. While he was under the impression that every journey through the maze was different, fraught with dangers unlike the ones laid out before, he spoke to those he could about what would befall the group, and took it all into account. There was also the subject of provisions, as the journey could take days, even weeks to complete. That was a harder task to undertake, but from the three packs at his feet, it was fairly clear that Caspian had done all he could to ensure that, at the very least, the group would not starve.

So now, all the young king could do was wait, sitting on a low wall near the entrance, watching the sun rise over the changed city - which he really didn't have the mental capacity to ponder at the moment - and watched for his companions to arrive.

"Spock's fair-haired love child" He whispered the words, then grinned widely. "Who is this Spock? I am the son of King Thrandiul of Mirkwood, my Lady Buffy, and not Spock at all." The tone of insult didn't go unnoticed by the elf, he was just the sort who was cheerful about nearly everything. So he had no problem letting that go, and turning it into a joke. Even if he didn't fully understand the joke himself.

But when, suddenly, the elf let out an anguished scream. His eyes widened, turned to a dark grey as they always did when he was deeply upset or angered by something. If Caspian's reaction was akin to someone running over his dog, his was more like if someone had killed his entire family in front of him. He bounded across the ground, laid a hand on the petrified tree, and turned to Hermione with the most accusing look that anyone there would have ever seen from him, and indeed, it was the first time in a long while he'd been this upset.

"Why would you do this?" His voice was hardly above a whisper, but his face was pale and pained, and he touched the tree gently, then let it drop. "This tree had many centuries of life left, and you just simply..." He took a deep, deep breath, obviously pulling himself together, and stepped away from the tree with a forced air. For elves, trees were very serious business, indeed, and he had just watched one murdered in front of him. But the witch had meant no harm, he could sense that, so he gave her one more burning glance, then walked over to Giselle. Who wasn't there anymore. If he hadn't been so upset about the tree, he would have noticed sooner, and tried to stop her.

As it was, he got back in time to hear Giselle's comment. Smiling at her, holding out his hand, he approached her. "Well, my Lady, I would not have been content if you had left, in any case. I would have had to follow you." He turned back to Caspian, his face still pale from the death of the tree. "The Lady Bright-Star is correct. We have no choice now. Whether any of you like it or no, we are all in this Labyrinth together. It is best if we get along." Even if Hermione had come really close to getting an arrow through her head for what she'd done.

"So, let us go. We can complete this much faster if we do not make rude comments to each other." A cold look to Buffy. "The entrance to the main part of the Labyrinth is over there." He pointed at what seemed to be merely a wall, in the long, featureless corridor that they had started in. But his sharp elven eyes pointed out that there was a hidden entrance there.

Rude comments? Buffy wasn't being rude, she was being . . . well, Buffy. Okay, so he didn't get the reference, didn't mean he had to get all grouchy about it. Of course the kinds of people who would throw little hissy fits about stone trees were probably the same kinds of people who would be fussy about everything else. Suddenly she missed Giles very much.

"Okay, on our way then." She threw a glance at Hermione and leaned over to whisper in her ear before she stepped into line. "Cool as that was, I don't suppose you could undo it? The boys in the group might be a bit more agreeable if you do."

She offered her an understanding smile, after all she didn't get what the big deal was about the tree and would have just said 'neat' if she wasn't worried that fisticuffs would break out if she did.

She decided then that this was going to go nowhere fast if she didn't at least make an attempt to soothe things over with people and since the vulcan or elf or whatever he was was currently pissed at her and the other self appointed leader of the group was no better off, they were the ones she directed her question to. "So, out of curiousity. If trees are like . . . your buds, what do you build your houses out of where you come from?"

It never took long for the evil little smile that Hermione shot at Caspian and Legolas to fade. When she was hit with their reactions she was trying with all her might not to bust out and cry “I'm sorry..I never wanted to upset anyone...I just wanted to prove a point” she said with a little dry snob afterwards breaking out into large tears.

“Thanks and yeah I was just about to do that actually” she whispered back to Buffy with a smile wiping newly formed tears away with her sleeve, at least someone had never freaked out at her for her little outburst of feminine fury, seeing Giselle had turned back it was just Buffy and herself now to prove their point in equality.

Walking to the tree she turned back around to the boys “Just because its petrified don't mean its dead” she explained, she knew this all to well being petrified back in her second year “Don't worry I can reverse it and Mr. Tree here can go back to living his life with all his family and friends” she lifted her wand and tapped the tree then muttered “Finite Incantatem” she turned back hoping to find the boys in a better mood now that their tree was back to normal and walking back to Buffy she noticed they were joined once again by Giselle.

Legolas was right they needed to work together but Hermione just wanted to run off by herself at this moment, to be alone or at least take Buffy with her and prove woman can kick butt as well as look pretty. Instead she ran off towards the wall Legolas pointed to, just to be alone for a few minuets while looking for the door, still upset over what Caspian and Legolas said to her now with more tears tricking down her face, she sat down at the entrance with her head in her knees and waited for the others.
