WHO: Juniper and Jack Harkness
WHEN: Day five, afternoon
WHAT: Meeting
WHERE: In the courtyard
RATING: TBA (it is Jack, after all)
STATUS: Incomplete

After spending the greater portion of the day with Edward, talking, eating and listening to him playing the piano, Juniper decided that she definitely needed a nap. Between breaking her own hand on Armand's face, the recurring blood loss from that meeting and the ones before it, and the fact that she'd most definitely overexerted herself, she was running on fumes. It took a bit of convincing, but eventually Edward had to admit that she was perfectly safe sleeping during the day, and that if he was there, she probably wouldn't get much sleeping done to begin with. Besides, he'd be there the instant the sun went down anyway.

His goodbye kiss left Juniper a little loopy, and she grinned to herself as she toddled her way across the courtyard toward her dorm. For being kidnapped and trapped without a link home, her life was a pretty amazing one. And that was what she was paying attention to, instead of where she was going, when she slammed into a man she'd never seen before, tripping all over herself and grabbing on to him with her unbraced hand, to keep herself from hitting the ground.

"Whoops," she laughed, looking up at him and grinning. "Sorry about that, luv."

Which was basically just what she'd said, so Juniper just nodded and smiled, falling back in step with Jack, not looking around, but instead, looking at him. He was by far the most fascinating thing in the general vicinity, after all.

Juniper smiled. "And yet, you're an American, and at the very least, ninety-five years old," she pointed out, doing the math very quickly in her head. But then again, she was from nineteen-ninety-five, and hadn't figured out that she was out of her time yet, so she was off by a good decade and change.

She considered that for a moment and then looked at Jack's mouth. Not that that was a decided indicator, but he looked and felt human enough. Definitely not like Edward or Armand did. "You either have the best plastic surgeon in the universe, or you're immortal," she finally said with a shrug. "Because the way you talk, the way you act...you're not from the forties."

She could go on thinking he was an American as, if the accent fit, he'd wear it. As for the ninety-five years old bit? Well, she could go on thinking that for as long as she liked. A man liked a woman who could shave a couple millenia off his age -- women weren't the only ones who liked to be younger than they looked (and Jack had all the vanity of a woman wrapped up inside him). "Not bad with the math," Jack said at last, inclining his head ever so slightly. "And you get points for the American bit, though that's not too hard given my accent."

Jack frowned when she looked at his mouth, then, remembering that there were vampires around, completely bared his teeth to her for inspection. "No long eye-teeth here," Jack said, tilting his head this way and then that. "Incisors are all the proper length." The immortal comment, however, gave him pause. Well, that was easy enough to agree to. "I figured the immortal bit went without saying if I managed to survive not one but two world wars." Jack lifted his chin and patted his cheek with a smirk. "No plastic surgeon. One doesn't mess with this level of perfection. Ever.

"And, really, I could be from the turn of the century, couldn't I? I lived through the first world war, so it stands to reason I'd have to be born at the end of the nineteenth century, correct?"

Juniper laughed. "See, the eye-teeth aren't always a solid indicator," she warned. "This bloke I'm seeing, Edward? He has teeth just like you or I. They look perfectly normal," she shrugged.

"Yes," Juniper allowed. "But still, you look far too young to have been born in - at the very earliest, what with military age limits - 1900, have fought in the first World War, and in the second. Even that would make you forty-something, and you don't look forty-something," she laughed. "So why don't you just spill, Captain Jack?" Juniper begged, looking up at him with big eyes. She was fascinated by him, after all.

"But if one is going strictly by the old legends, they are the only indicator," Jack pointed out. Which meant that there were other forms of vampires here. Part of Jack itched to find one and study, to pick it apart piece by piece and see what made it different than the ones the stories spoke of. But there was no Hub and, outside of Ianto, no team to speak of. "You're seeing a vampire?" Jack asked, eyebrows raising to practically his hairline. "You do have a talent for attracting the immortal blokes, don't you?" A pause. "Mind sharing?"

But Jack wasn't going to share quite so easily as all that. He had a reputation to protect, didn't he? "I did agree to the immortal bit," he said with a slight incline of his head. "Technically I believe I look to be about thirty-five years of age. Would that be about right by you?" He frowned. "And why are you so curious?" came the blunt question. Jack lightly tapped Juniper on the nose. "Or are you always this inquisitive?"

"Well then it's a good thing we're not," Juniper laughed. "Because the old legends don't apply to either of the species of vampire that I've run into here. Though one of them...the teeth thing is valid." Juniper chuckled and shrugged. "Immortal...insanely dangerous...take your pick," she admitted. "I've got another one stalking me. He's more of your run-of-the-mill vampire though. Fangs, sun, etc," she shrugged. "Sharing?" Juniper asked with raised eyebrows.

Juniper wrinkled her nose and grinned when Jack tapped it, and shrugged a shoulder. "I like to know things," she said simply, dancing around on the toes of her flats while they walked. "Curiosity killed the cat and all but I-" Juniper broke off, stopped spinning, and made a face, like something had just occurred to her. "Huh. Two lives left." Then she shrugged and smiled again. "I'm bothering you, aren't I?"

Either species? Jack's fingers practically twitched as the desire to examine became near impossible to resist. He'd have to keep his eye out and, briefly, Jack wondered how much of the TARDIS was functioning and if he could convince the Doctor to do some research. Hell, who was he kidding? This was the Doctor. "Most immortals are insanely dangerous," Jack replied. "I'm only mostly dangerous and that's if I don't get any coffee in the morning. Otherwise, I'm decent." Jack nodded, a grin splitting his face. "Yes, sharing. You have two, I have none. The definition of sharing."

Jack truly couldn't fault her for wanting to know things. He had the same desire and want at the end of the day. "But satisfaction brought him back," Jack finished. "I know my fair share of adages." They walked and Jack watched her out of the corner of his eye, amusement sparking in his features. She was a strange one, but oddly endearing as well. "Two lives left?" Jack asked, frowning. "Who has two lives left? And no, you're not bothering me. Enigmatic, perhaps, but not bothering."

"So you're like every other man then. Obnoxious until you're awake," Juniper laughed. "Well fine, Mister Immortal. You can have the one with the fangs, since he's the one that likes to bite me," she offered with a grin. "I'm keeping the other one. I like him."

"It did, it did," she smiled, and then shrugged. "Me, maybe. I don't know. I just had a thought. I've had six lives, and I always thought that I get seven, so this would be the last one," she shrugged. "Seven is such a prevalent number in anything otherworldly, after all. But I always get teased. Called a cat. Too curious, shiny things will amuse me for hours, I love to be pet...that kind of thing. So if a cat has nine lives, maybe I do to," she smiled.

Jack grinned at that, tilting his head -- but it was hard to say if he was agreeing with her or warning her. Jack could be an enigma when he really wanted to. "I suppose that means I'm in the clear since I don't sleep. Well, much, anyway." He shrugged, letting his mind conjure up an image of this vampire. "I'll need a bit more description if I'm going to agree to the fanged-one," Jack replied. "A man has to have some standards, you know."

A far-off look settled itself on Jack's face as they walked, Jack no longer looking down at Juniper. After a pause, he began to speak without realising he was talking aloud. "I once thought I only had so many lives. After I woke up the first time, Ithought it was a fluke. That I really hadn't been shot. Almost two thousand deaths later, I'm beginning to wonder if I have a set number of lives." Catching himself before he said any more, Jack wiped the odd look from his face and, instead, fixed Juniper with a flirtatious smile. "Who knows, maybe you have far more than nine lives. Though I don't think it's something I'd want to be testing anytime soon."

Juniper grinned, shaking her head as she realised that Jack was looking for dating prospects. At least, that's how it seemed. "Let's see...blond. Young...looking, anyway. Very handsome and pretty intense. Pale skin, fangs, telepathic, you know, the traditional vampire business." Juniper paused and considered, then she grinned a bit. "When he bites you...it's better than sex, Jack," she confessed in a whisper. "If he didn't scare the crap out of me..." Juniper trailed off with a loopy roll of her eyes and a little groan. "I think that, for you, he'd be worth looking into." Given that Jack couldn't die, anyway.

That smile made her blush a little, but Juniper was too fixated on what he'd said to get too distracted. "You come back," she said with a shake of her head and a thoughtful look. "Like me? With a whole new body and life and mind and everything? Or like..." she snapped her fingers. "Alive."

Jack was always on the look-out for potential prospects. There may have been only one man h e wanted to date but it didn't preclude him from looking either. No, not in the slightest. "Usually don't go for the blond sorts, but I could make an exception come to think of it." Jack couldn't help but lick his lips, particularly when he saw that grin on her face. "Better than sex, you say?" Jack asked. "With all my experience, I think that's going to be hard to top, but I may have to find this blond vampire you speak of." Jack scratched his chin thoughtfully. "Not like there's much risk anyway," he murmured.

Didn't hurt to talk about it with her, did it? It was usually something Jack held so close to his chest but what did it hurt? Not like it was something that could hurt him, was it? "I come back..." Jack snapped his fingers. "Like that. I'll heal what's wrong with me, if there is anything. Body metabolises things or the skin heals. How is it that you come back?" Jack asked, curiosity getting the better of him.
