WHO: Juniper and Jack Harkness
WHEN: Day five, afternoon
WHAT: Meeting
WHERE: In the courtyard
RATING: TBA (it is Jack, after all)
STATUS: Incomplete

After spending the greater portion of the day with Edward, talking, eating and listening to him playing the piano, Juniper decided that she definitely needed a nap. Between breaking her own hand on Armand's face, the recurring blood loss from that meeting and the ones before it, and the fact that she'd most definitely overexerted herself, she was running on fumes. It took a bit of convincing, but eventually Edward had to admit that she was perfectly safe sleeping during the day, and that if he was there, she probably wouldn't get much sleeping done to begin with. Besides, he'd be there the instant the sun went down anyway.

His goodbye kiss left Juniper a little loopy, and she grinned to herself as she toddled her way across the courtyard toward her dorm. For being kidnapped and trapped without a link home, her life was a pretty amazing one. And that was what she was paying attention to, instead of where she was going, when she slammed into a man she'd never seen before, tripping all over herself and grabbing on to him with her unbraced hand, to keep herself from hitting the ground.

"Whoops," she laughed, looking up at him and grinning. "Sorry about that, luv."

"The hearts I've broken?" Jack laughed, tossing his head back, eyes sparkling with mirth. "I don't think you have time to weep for all the hearts I've broken."

Jack lightly patted the hand that rested on his arm, glancing sidelong at Juniper every now and again. Who was this girl who could so easily break through the mental barriers of others? Jack himself had little psychic skill -- enough to get by and to keep himself tightly guarded, but he lacked finesse when it came to prowling in a mind. Which was why he never did it. There were far more enjoyable ways of getting information and those Jack was very adept at.

Lifting an eyebrow, Jack stopped walking the moment she finished her story. He didn't say anything, other than realising he may have found a kindred spirit, someone who understood longevity. "Something tells me its less a story and more a memory. Your memory to be precise."

It seemed to be more, and less, than any psychic ability that Jack possessed that kept Juniper out, and though she couldn't yet put her finger on it, there was something enduring, almost out-of-time, removed from it, that Juniper suspected was keeping her out.

Turning slightly when he stopped, Juniper looked up at her new friend and smiled sheepishly, shrugging one shoulder. "It's far healthier to remember the truth than to hide in fairy tales," she said. "At least, that's what I keep telling myself."

"And what about you, Captain Harkness?" she asked, giving him a half-smile. "What's your excuse, for being the way you are?" Juniper asked, looking up at him like she could see the cogs moving in his mind.
