She wasn't even willing to admit to herself that she held his hand as a reaction to the nightmares. Things kept slipping away from her in it, her hands never able to grab a hold. So when he'd held her hand when he had first sat down she had kept a hold ever since. And another part was almost trying to make sure he'd meant what he said, that he believed in her. So strong was her insecurity that if he'd pulled away at all, tried to hide it, she doubted she would see him ever again. She'd spent the days and night between her arrival back from Avalon convincing herself that Jake was taking Jilleen's side, and that had hurt even more.
As they made their way to a table that looked out onto the promenade deck outside the window she eased her grip, giving him the opportunity to withdraw his hand as they sat down.
