Anika's hand reached for Dani's, the expression on her friend's face making Anika's now thin wall of strenth amd restraint start to splinter at the edges. She did not want Dani to be around if she did lose it. More than ever she regretted having called her now, but had had no idea this was going to degenerate the way it had, the woman behind her so hateful. And apparently without any realisation as to just how much of a bitch she really was.
Her voice was low, only loud enough for Dani to hear. "Please, just go, you don't need to be here," she told her, her eyes pleading with Dani to do that. "I'll be fine." Even she could hear her voice cracking and she stopped, defintely not wanting to give the bitch the satisfaction of knowing she'd won. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
