rp: Stargazing Who: Killian Jones and Li-Ming What: Gazing at the stars When: 22 August Where: A quiet street corner Rating: Low Status: Complete
Killian would never understand why stars viewed from their own element appeared dim and diminished aside those once gazed upon from the comfort of the sea. He thought - most scientifically - that a light ought shine brighter the closer one viewed its source, but the vacuum of space proved too vast to fill. Even a billion stars were alike his darkest, foggiest nights at sail, when not a sliver of moon or drop of dusty milk from trusty galaxy way appeared to guild his path through the choppy waves.
Space. There was no wind in space. No salt on the air. No air. Only emptiness, occupied by more nothingness.
Killian loathed space.
Let the Shadow take me, he cursed inwardly, lacking the care to bother saying it aloud. The only shits he gave then were to raise a looted bottle of rum in hand and swig as he stared out at the universe beyond The Rip.
Catastrophic trajectory error which had landed Killian at event’s horizon had proven a rather large setback than originally calculated. Rather larger, still, owing to having misplaced The Jolly Roger somewhere between time and space and that nattering wee thing called corporeal property. His beloved vessel; she’d simply vanished from beneath his feet, taking with her crew, loot and the Captain’s very freedom.
Never again would he sail by magic bean. Assuming, of course, he ever sailed again.
See, the stars were all misplaced in space. Heavens muddled up and missing entirely in some cases. What use was a pirate who couldn’t read the stars? Or stars that can’t guide a pirate, thought with another drink.
“Bugger it.”
Existential questions could be answered on the morrow. Tonight, Killian was content to marinate them in rum, and if he was so lucky, maybe drown in his own vomit before waking in the very gutter which he currently occupied.
The last place he wanted to be was Knowhere. Which was exactly where he was. Everywhere, and at the same time, absolutely nowhere at all.
