But I always felt there was no point because... how would I ever listen if someone says, hey, no, I don't think you can handle them :|
I guess that is an issue but at the same time, you have that ability over the players (as mod). And I don't think it's necessarily fair that the players should have veto power over your ability to "app" a character or not, but I think getting input is necessary. In the past, when someone has wanted to app a character, you've sometimes put your foot down when you felt the character count was too high for that person.
And you do play a lot of characters. And as the second anon said, you do tend to do some pretty spontaneous apping. I'm not saying you can't handle it, and I'm not saying that your characters aren't great... but at the same time, I don't think it's really fair that you should be able to do that unchecked just because you wouldn't be able to "listen" if people advised against it.
I do think that posting a sample for your intro would be a good idea, though. I think it's been pointed out to you in the past that sometimes your intros can be a bit generic, and having the players look over your sample might help avoid that in the future and also point out any possible characterization issues they could see.
