Skyfire smiled as he watched the other scientist bounce around happily. While he be not have been completely sure about the mission they were going on was completely safe, his partner was far too happy to care. He was glad to see the other so enthusiastic about something again.
"We leave soon," Starscream said, excitedly. "Very soon." He turned to look at Skyfire. "What do you suppose we'll find on the planet?"
Skyfire chuckled. "I don't know, my friend. We know nothing about it, other than the fact that it is organic. We could find just about anything there." He could see the other scientist's optics brighten at the knowledge that they were going to be the first two to go to an unknown planet they they'd found on accident, and that could be hiding just about anything. "Well, Starscream, shall we get going?"
Starscream grinned and nodded vigorously. "Of course." He transformed and waited for his colleague to do the same; once Skyfire had transformers, he took off, knowing that the other would be right behind him.
Skyfire followed the other, sighing softly. He couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen. 'It's nothing,' he told himself. 'It's just my imagination.' He watched Starscream, making sure the other didn't do anything reckless and get injured.
The two scientists traveled for what seemed like forever, neither one saying anything to the other; neither needed to say anything. Starscream knew his friend wasn't completely sure about the mission; Skyfire knew Starscream was too excited to care about what could go wrong. They both should have realized that the mission would go wrong right after they landed. They were immediately attacked by some of the local life-forms on the planet; it was easy for them to escape, obviously, but they didn't realize that it was just the beginning.

"Look at all the samples we already have!" Starscream yelled. "We could have so much more than this, and you want to leave?! Because of some stupid feeling you have?!" He glared at his partner. "Go ahead and leave then! I'm staying right here." He turned and went back to his work.
Skyfire looked down at the ground before he turned and walked away, optics full of sorrow. He had known, and worked with, Starscream for so long, and that had been the first time that they had gotten into a fight that left one of them walking away from the other. He was too deep in thought to notice when his surroundings changed, and when the temperature fell drastically. He frowned when he finally did notice. ::Starscream? Are you there? I can't seem to figure out where I am right now. My navigation systems are frozen up.:: He looked around, trying to figure out which way he should go. ::I need you help.::
~~
Starscream had just finished packing the samples up when he received his friend's transmission.
::Starscream...ou the...an't...figure...am...aviga...help.
Starscream picked up the samples and headed in the direction Skyfire had gone off in. ::I'm trying to find you know. Please wait for me, Skyfire.:: He tried to trace Skyfire's signal, but it didn't work; he couldn't figure out why, but there was too much interference. "Skyfire!" he yelled, wandering around, searching. "Skyfire! IF you can hear me, please answer me!" He clenched his fists; Skyfire had always been going the distance to help him, and, now, he couldn’t even save his friend. 'I'll tell the council,' he though. 'I'm sure they'll let me bring a search party here to find Skyfire.' He looked around again. ::If you can hear me, Skyfire, I promise I'll be back for you. And, when I come back, I'll have help. I won't abandon you.:: He picked up the samples and transformed, taking off for Cybertron.

When Starscream arrived back on Cybertron, everything had changed. The threat of war was no longer just a threat; the war had started, and almost all of the Cybertronians had taken sides.
Starscream stood in front of the Autobot council, just staring as they told him the news. "War or no war, Skyfire is trapped," he growled. "You aren't going to do anything to help?!"
"We don't have enough resources to spare for a mission there," one of the council members said.
"What?!" Starscream stared at them. "We worked hard for you, and you're just abandoning him?!"
"We have no other option. You are dismissed."
Starscream spun and stormed out of the building. 'If the Autobots refuse to help, I'll just go to the Decepticons. They may not help, but I can use what I know to my advantage to get them to at least let me go back and save Skyfire.' He stared up at the sky, and out into space. ::If you can hear me, Skyfire, know that I will rescue you, no matter how long it takes. I promise.::
