I adore the tension in this, that he's made a plan, but has to wait to execute it, that he talks himself out of his fear, that the father figures everyone else he mentions are part of the problem he needs to leave and the very effective metaphor of the velvet curtain, decadent and yet entrapping, for the life Ffamran wants to escape.
