She dreamed the hazy, disconnected dreams of the drugged for a long while.
She wasn't sure when it changed. She just knew in a place that wasn't a place, she turned around and looked him in the face, and he grinned at her and touched her chin--chaste, teasing but still a little electric, at least in dreams--and said, "hey, doc."
"I'm dreaming this," she said aloud.
He shrugged. "It happens," he observed, philosophical. "But since this seems to be my dream, too, I'd prefer it if you'd use the term 'fantasizing'. It's good for my ego."
She made a soft, sharp sound of disgust. "If it was my fantasy, you wouldn't be talking so much," she told him, and he looked startled and then laughed, deep and honest, his smile crooked and delighted. And because it made sense in the dream--because he didn't irritate her so much, here, and he was still laughing after that kind of remark--she let herself lean forward and kiss him, just as deep and honest and twice as full of desire.
He confused her a little, after that. It was a dream; she expected him to play by her rules, and she'd never fantasized about the way a man would catch her wrists in startled reflex when she raised her hands, and kiss her like he wanted to eat her whole, hot and deep and a little rough, her thighs opening over his, her nails dragging down his neck. He put his hands on her spine and she arched, fluid like water, as his hands slid under her top. And then it was gone, and he looked at her bare breasts and said something rough and incomprehensible, eyes nearly black, and she leaned forward, tired of a creation of her own mind touching her too deeply for comfort, and kissed him to take his fabricated mind off it.
But when they'd woken up, and she was wearing the familiar uniform she'd first worn in the dream, she recognized the way his eyes went dark when he looked at her, contained an instinctive flush with an effort, and did not reach out by pure will alone.
