Prompt: 7/9 -- xxxHolic – Doumeki/Watanuki – safety – “Why do you keep pushing away the one who can protect you?”
Concrete xxxHolic Mithrigil Galtirglin
So it’s not the first time Kimihiro’s nearly fallen off a building. And it’s not the first time Doumeki’s been the reason for the ‘nearly’. And this time it’s because he’s got Kimihiro by the collars of his shirt and coat and it hurts like, well, like few other things in this world can hurt, but actually falling would hurt a lot worse. So.
So.
When Doumeki tells Kimihiro to hold still, it’s probably a good idea to listen. Kimihiro does, the best he can anyway, he at least stops consciously moving but don’t people become heavier if they’re just dead weight? Dead weight. Not a good thing to think about. Clearly not conducive to not moving anymore because it kind of makes his shoulders seize up and shiver and considering that he should probably be holding on to something oh no oh please—
Then there’s a grunting sound and his shirt nearly chokes him (and again Doumeki’s the nearly) and the next thing Kimihiro actually knows is that the concrete roof is a whole lot better to have his back against than nothing at all.
A whole lot better.
…and there’s also something against his front.
Yeah. Um.
“You awake?” That’s Doumeki asking. Close—overhead. Kimihiro looks up to where the voice is and makes sure he can hear it in both ears. One of his ears is kind of pressed against something, though, so he tries to look at that, too, winds up a little cross-eyed, more than usual, even, because it’s on the side of him that his eye’s his own.
It’s Doumeki’s wrist near, no, touching, his ear. Doumeki’s holding himself up over Kimihiro. Legs entangled. Like random kisses on humid days, ghosts eavesdropping around shoji, hands clasped on wrists and arguments dying down or were those dreams like everything else? Or maybe this is one? Or—
“I never know,” Kimihiro says, and shrivels up, reaches up, pushes Doumeki away and scoots out, out from between his level arms and level eyes. “I never know anymore.”
