Mornings, Baccano! (Firo/Ennis)
Title: Mornings
Author/Artist: shiegra
Rating: PG13/R
Word count: 322
Prompt: Baccano! - Firo/Ennis - courtship – This part is supposed to come first, he thinks, but since when are they ever what they’re supposed to be?
In some odd, vague way he has the sense that it was supposed to begin like this.
Flowers and gifts and quiet questions, maybe walks and dinner and even a ring before the rumpled sheets and the scent of musk on the air in the dark, quiet room. The slope of her breast presses against his hand and he breathes in against the nape of her neck, remembering the way her eyes had gone wide and luminous, the breath she'd caught and released on a low, sweetly strained moan.
He'd kicked off dew-damp shoes by the door, and the flowers brush against her skin. She stirs, rolls over, and blinks when he lifts his arm so the blossoms aren't crushed.
"Oh," she says, and for a moment he's bemused, a little anxious--Ennis isn't like anyone he's ever known, what if she doesn't like them? What if she thinks they're--
But she touches them, traces the soft petals with her fingers, and her lips part. "They're beautiful." She says, hushed with astonishment, and slides him a cautious glance.
He grins at her, thinks unrepentantly that he probably looks smug when she touches his cheek with the same fingers, stroking gently. "We could go out." He suggests. "For a walk." He thinks he'd like to see her under the sunlight, pacing at his side. He likes the way she always seems like she's taking the world in anew when she's with him.
She looks a little puzzled and a little interested, in the same cautious way that she shows any emotion. "A walk." She lingers over the words, hesitates. He's pleased that her eyes have seemed less wary around him lately, gentler. "To where?"
He rolls to a crouch, lifts her fingers to his lips and watches her eyes turn quizzical at the gesture. "To anywhere," he promises, and means it.
She doesn't quite smile, but the brightness of her eyes is everything.
