"I'd normally agree with that," Yammo said, just as intent on the road. She waited to say more as they navigated the last two yards of road with grooves dangerously deep. "But later, he was just as emphatic about his belief that the queen might not feel that way anymore, but he was still willing to give up chances at a partner and family of his own. I could tell there was something he was being dishonest about the first time; it was in his body language, and his tone. And especially in his eyes. And I saw that same dishonesty the second time."
She moved one hand from holding Tama's reins and held it out for Zumi, her other hand still holding those reins.
Once Zumi had taken her hand, she continued. "And I know, it was possible there was something else going on that had him putting off those vibes. He may be a legendary figure, but he's still just human, and capable of mistakes, and whatever else he might've been dishonest about that we didn't know about could've just been bleeding into his behaviors. But when you pointed out he sounded like someone in love, his response was that you don't have to be in love with someone to love them."
She looked at Zumi. "And yes, that's true. I know it is. But considering how explicit he was being with his words about the queen's side, that was an awfully ambiguous answer. Compared to his other answers, that was more of a dodge than a real answer. If he were being honest, he would've been just as clear with that as he was about the queen's side."
