Zumi opened her mouth to protest, purely by reflex, but it died before it finished forming in her brain. Not for the first time, her fiance was right, Yammo's ability to Watch on an almost supernatural level figuring out what was going on Zumi's head before Zumi herself had.
She let out a slow breath, releasing the tension that was building from defensiveness. She closed her eyes briefly and gave Yammo a weak, self-deprecating smile. "I hate that you're right," she said. "Especially since I hadn't even really thought about it that way."
The ground was getting a little rough in spots, forcing Zumi to pay attention to where she put her feet; it must've rained overnight, because there were a lot of distinct hoof prints that went pretty deep, they could only have been caused by the ground being muddy when the horse that made them was walking over them.
"All right, so you're right, I'd be letting him get away with lying to me about that." She looked at Yammo a moment before going back to watching her step. "So what makes you think he's lying?"
