"I live by luck," Link said, glancing at Yammo to gauge her reaction to all of this.
She was looking at Zumi, amusement on her face, but something about her eyes, and how she looked at him when she looked back, briefly- for what reason, he didn't know -made him feel vaguely like she was seeing... everything. It was a bit beyond the look of a woman who lived on the road and had to be hypervigilant about her safety. This was more like she could see right through anyone she looked at.
That was unnerving, and he was going to have that right up under his feet.
Fuck. Because that was a bunch of eggshells he wanted to feel like he was walking on.
It was probably less that she had some sort of supernatural powers of perception and more that she'd come to the place of a woman having to be hypervigilant of her safety from a direction that the average woman out there didn't, and it gave that particular look an eerie effect on her face.
Deciding that lingering on feeling like there was a strange woman who was already mentally digging through his head and past all those closed doors sitting next to him wasn't something he wanted to do, he looked back at Zumi as she finished brushing her hair into at least a presentable 'I did nothing but brush my hair' look.
"Ready?" he asked, holding up the Slate and zooming out a bit to get both women in the picture. "You don't have to do anything special, just sit there and try to look charming."
That earned him a scowl that he was sorely tempted to make the picture of, but he waited until she'd smoothed her expression back to a mostly neutral one before tapping the screen.
After checking the album to make sure the picture turned out okay, he turned it back around to show them. "And voila, a picture of you two to show to the town watchers so they don't get suspicious and unhelpful at you. I'll show it to Uma, too- she's the midwife -and probably Manny, just because he can get grumbly if someone he doesn't know passes through. You'll be watching for Nack first, he'll be right at the gate. Thin guy, little taller than me, wears a wide-brimmed straw hat and has that pitchfork I mentioned."
He put the Slate back to idle and clipped it on his hip. "Next guy after him will be a tall guy with dark hair, heavy-set. He'll be wandering up and down the road between Nack and the first building on the left, which is the clothing store he owns, but mostly lets his daughter handle running. She was up all night working on a special dress for Zelda- she'd panicked at the idea of Zelda showing up at Zora's Domain to meet the royals in an off-the-rack villager's dress that she'd bought and had altered, and decided to go on an overnight marathon with her sewing machine -so he might be inside the shop, actually doing his job. So don't panic if you don't see him.
"Immediately to your right, you'll see three narrow and tall wooden houses up the hill a little, with a path going up past them. That path goes back to a bridge that leads over to where my house is. I'd recommend stopping at the East Wind General Store, like I mentioned the other day. First building that's on the road on the right. Go in and tell him who you are and that we're expecting you. I won't need him to let me know, the Sword's going to be keeping an eye out, but talking to him or one of the other two first will let everyone else know that you've been cleared to come see us, and aren't someone to stand over your shoulders menacingly. He can also direct you to Uma's, if you'd rather go there first and rest before you come say hi to royalty."
He shrugged. "Or if you want to go there first, we can come to you, if you're tired enough. I'll leave that up to you two."
