If Zumi didn't know that Yammo would tell her settle down and let her handle things- if for no other reason than to make sure Zumi's emotions that were amplified and complicated by hormones to what even Zumi knew would be irrational levels didn't accidentally endanger her only friendship outside of Yammo herself -Zumi would've spoken up, spitting vinegar and tears both at Link, more than once in that conversation.
He was so stupid. She was relieved he wasn't regretting what had given her happiness, but he was so stupid to be denying himself that same sort of happiness. Why did he have to look guilty over it?!
But she'd never heard Link sound upset, not truly. Not until he said 'please don't make me do that to her.' His voice had been quiet, even, but Zumi could hear the plaintive plea in it. She'd never seen anyone able to keep such a calm expression and a level tone when there was so much desperation in their eyes that normal people would be begging, crying, raging, any number of reactions that expressed that level of desperation.
The strange juxtaposition of still waters on the surface and a storm-tossed sea beneath was unnerving enough. Seeing it on someone who'd seemed so generally easy-going, who'd come across as a 'what you see is what you get' sort of personality, compounded that disquieted feeling.
There was a lot more to Link than she'd been allowed to see, and while it didn't make her feel unsafe around him, it made her feel small. She'd been in the company of a giant, an instrument of a destiny that had directed the entire kingdom for millennia, and she'd never realized it. Until just then. Until she saw the one chosen by the Sword begging quietly for the happiness of the last royal daughter who descended from the goddess.
Even if Zumi had wanted to, she knew she wouldn't be able to bring herself to say or do something to tell him no, to deny his request.
Although if it was all the same to the goddess, she'd rather her child not inherit the enormity of that legacy. Maybe keeping Link out of that part of the child's life was the best thing she could do as a mother.
"I have an idea about that," she said softly, pulling both Yammo's and Link's attention to her. "It's not my favorite, and I know neither of you will like it, but I think it'll make everything tie together really well. Make it make more sense why I went to a man who was basically a stranger for help with an identity crisis of if I was actually a lesbian. It's kind of a weird thing to do, even with asking for sex to 'prove it.'"
She shot Link a dirty look of warning when he gave her a pointed squint. "Yes, I know it was. You told me then, and I admitted it. Keep your 'I told you so' to yourself."
She was pretty sure that exchange was an attempt on both of their parts to inject a little normalcy into a situation that wasn't making anyone happy.
