The paranoia of the town made perfect sense of Zelda - you didn't get such a peaceful oasis without people dedicated to keeping it that way. It was the same driving force that had awakened her power, a hundred years ago - the desire to protect someone...something pure and beautiful.
It was also why, though she gave no outward indication of it, she had carefully noted the positions of the town's self-selected guard. And they were a guard, whether they took that title or not, in her mind.
"An encore?" Zelda repeated, tilting her head to grin at Link. "Why, this is just the prologue, my friend."
If Link were paying enough attention, he might have noticed just the slightest hesitation after "my". Not enough of one that anyone who didn't know Zelda well would have picked up on, but...it was still there.
