Bolson and Karson heard a note of bewilderment in the queen's voice, and they exchanged a look before returning to the front end of the house to look down. That bewilderment was on her face, too.
Another exchanged look, then a shrug of mutual confusion and growing concern, then Karson headed over to the ladder that propped up against the side of the house, perched a little precariously on the stone path that pressed against the wall of that side of the house.
"We'll be right down," Bolson assured her, then turned and followed Karson down the ladder.
"Is something wrong?" Karson asked as he hopped down off the stone path and over the fence that went up maybe to his thighs.
