"The way I understand it, we did win, sorta, eventually, but it wasn't a good victory. It was too costly. Not unlike this one, in a manner of speaking." She frowned. "Let me think. It's all a bit fuzzy and jumbled. This one - ours, I mean - went South hard and fast and the price was... to use an old idiom, a king's ransom. Not quite as bad as back then. But all I know is that there was an Impa who had to take my ancestor Zelda into hiding, something about her being asleep for a thousand years in technology holding her in what's called stasis?"
Zelda shrugged and picked up a glass of water on the table, taking a sip. "There was a Link with a Master Sword, and he was only yet still a boy who lived in a treehouse? I don't understand that part, because then he went on to tell me about an orange slaying a rake and something about a safety rail? Ganon was a powerful, ancient force of evil and death. It doesn't mean he was a sane force of evil and death. Then when Link took the sword, he was seven years older and all the world's full of undead and redeads and more monsters than ever." She looked sidelong, trying to sort out the details. "And rode a large bird to- no, the birds couldn't come to Hylia. Never mind." She waved her hand as if brushing it off. "But there was a really, really big red bird he rode at some point? Don't ask me, I just know what I know."
"But that Zelda came back awake after a thousand years for her, because she was holding space for something which I don't understand quite yet. Ganon kept insisting she was just being a coward and hiding, but we know better, don't we?" Zelda rolled her eyes.
"Impa had to hide Zelda because there was no Queen. The King made deals with Ganon, who I can only surmise sounded reasonable and wasn't a gaseous mass of evil malicious death with a pigface."
"But yes, there was another Great Calamity, and we won, sorta kinda accidentally, after a lot of work, but it's not as cool and easy a victory as the history books might make it sound. They got their rears handed to them pretty bad at first too. All because of the lack of a Queen."
