"Well, if the noble caste really is gone, as Link said, then I'm free to establish whatever societal rules I want if that ever starts coming back. But I doubt that would be much of an issue, since all the noble caste is are people who've been granted positions and titles by the throne. Since the people I'd be tapping for royal positions are commoners like everyone here in Hateno, it stands to reason that they'd bring their own social rules with them, which does away with the old ways of the nobility. And if anyone tries to bring back some of those ways, I can put a stop to that," Zelda said.
A thought occurred to her, and she grinned a bit. "Though if this were a royal court, you'd be one of my ladies-in-waiting. That was the title given to those the queen chose to keep near her, her close friends and trusted companions. I remember Mother having some, she was often surrounded by beautiful women in gowns as resplendent as her own, and I remember there being a lot of laughter in her drawing room. I liked being in there, but they'd often shoo me out, usually once they started to have to cover my ears a lot while talking."
Zelda finished up with breakfast. "As far as same-sex couples go, I don't know. I know they exist, and they weren't frowned upon amid the nobility, but I never did think of how they ended up with children, the logistics behind it. I know there was a duchess wed to another woman, they had several children a bit younger than me, not too much younger, the oldest was close enough in age that she'd been a playmate when I was little. I never knew how they ended up with children though. That wasn't something that was discussed around me."
She paused to sip her water. "I mean, Calamity struck the exact same day I came of age. And prior to that, I was buried in work and trying to unlock my power."
