Her speech held everyone captivated, in awe, a couple almost to the point of tears, because they did have history classes growing up, before Symin took over teaching, the old Doctor Purah was doing it, they all knew that the princess and the Hylian Champion had disappeared when the Calamity stopped, neither to be seen again. Obviously there'd been something left out, and not a single one of them would believe it was anything other than the divine powers of the royal daughters- the bit about there being older goddesses than Hylia who were more powerful was a bit much to swallow, but that part was filed away as mostly unimportant, in the face of finally knowing what it was that had saved their town and ensured that every single one of them could be born and live and grow and have kids of their own.
Well.
Almost everyone.
But there was one in every family. Two in this one. And both burst into laughter- Nikki more loudly, while Amira was more of an incredulous chuckle.
"Are you kidding me?" Nikki demanded. "Power of 'the old gods,' 'more powerful than Hylia,' and you couldn't wipe the Calamity from the face of the earth? Please, I wasn't born yesterday, missy. None of us were. And if you had that power all along, what took you so long that everything outside of here had to get destroyed before you decided to actually do something? Even if you're telling the truth, no queen deserves a lick of respect for standing back and not doing anything while her kingdom's destroyed. This is nonsense, and I can't believe you've tricked Reede and Clavia into buying this."
Even Amira hadn't wanted to go quite that far- gossip she was, but she'd been raised with more interest in the old stories than Nikki had, and she wanted this to be true, even though she could barely believe it, if that much. But, since she didn't believe it, and her friend made a good point about how long it took, she decided to speak up as well. "Even if we believe you, Nikki asked a good question. What the hell took you so long? Some of us had relatives out there that we never got to meet."
